But to my surprise there was quite a few people coming in around this time. So this gave me some comfort, as soon as you walked into the church we were greeted. They knew were visitors and showed us where we should go. I loved that the lobby had coffee/water. From the outside I assumed this was a small church but by my surprise it was actually a lot bigger than I expected. Service was also really good, I enjoyed the worship music as it was a newer song and the word by the pastor was very relatable but also not over done. There is a location in EG which is closer to our home and we are considering going to visit as we truly enjoyed ourselves.

Sure there is a lot nearby (kind of) but who wants to walk super far. The congregation and pastors are amazing. They are genuine people with interesting and humble opinions. This church doesn't feel like your average church, more of that new-age Christian vibe. They are very welcoming and friendly. Everyone feels like they belong here no matter what race, belief, ethnicity, age, sex, gender, or anything else they belong to. They have multiple rooms for mass and a decent amount of times. They are also accessible online and have recently renovated one of the areas. You don't feel forced to do anything here or donate. There are so many programs and events happening at this church it's kind of wild how they are able to keep up and organize all the events. The live music almost reminds me of a rock concert at times but it's still amazing to hear. They have projectors that display current events, pictures, and other stuff. Bottom Line/TLDR: Overall, a very solid church.

I went to at least 20 different churches all throughout Northern Cali before I found Calvary Christian Center. It took me one full year after moving here! This church has been an absolute blessing for me and my family. I came here over 16 years ago now, and it's been my home for 15. I couldn't be more thankful for my pastor, Phillip Goudeaux Sr, for helping me to look at life differently. I used to be very doubtful and didn't have a lot of confidence in myself, but everything he teaches is truth, life and not death. Anyone who has heard him speak before knows he is an anointed man and loves all people he interacts with. His heart is extremely big, and his desire is to see the people grow and be a blessing to California and the world. If you're going through anything in your life and you don't know how to overcome those areas, this church is the place for you! It's multi-cultural, non-denominational, and you can find a place here that makes you feel at home. I know it because I've been through it and have come out on the other side. With some guidance, consistency, and Faith... your life will change from the inside out. If you need a church home... Calvary is open!

Sacred Heart Church - Current View

Their 11am choir is incredibly talented and from my understanding have visited Rome and have a very good reputation for their skill. The liturgy here is very solemn, and the choir offers a mixture of Gregorian chant and polyphony, which is very unique to hear for a Novus Ordo/Ordinary Form Mass. The vicar here has offered good homilies from the few times I have visited and you can tell takes the Mass seriously. I spotted a few parishioners with mantillas and received communion on the tongue while kneeling, so this parish is friendly to those of the faith who want to show reverence and piety in front of the Blessed Sacrament. Besides the mass, the Church itself is incredibly beautiful, made of brick and constructed in the 1930s (if only newer churches were still built like this). If you're ever in the East Sacramento area, definitely encourage visiting Sacred Heart!

Physically, the church could not be more beautiful. It has a very simplistic design but the inside is garnished with intricate stained glass windows and artwork. Sacred Heart holds mass everyday of the week with 3 three masses on Sundays (8 a.m., 9:30 a.m, & 11:00 a.m.) The 11 o'clock mass is the most attended out of all three and if you are able to make it for the 11 a.m. mass then you get to experience the choir. The choir at Sacred Heart is composed of volunteers who are all outstanding. They are, in my opinion, one of the best choirs I have ever had the pleasure to hear. The choir combined with the accoustics of the church make it a very memorable experience. One thing to be cautious of: Beware of parking on the surrounding streets of the church (35th-39th St) The city of Sacramento does require a "C" permit to park on these streets and parking enforcement will give you a parking ticket if you do not have the permit.

When I finally made it inside for a service, it was clear that this community means and lives these messages deeply. There is a strong commitment to social justice and many opportunities to be involved in the work happening around that at lots of different levels. I attended for a few months and found people friendly and didn't feel like I was being recruited into something or pressured to participate in a certain way. When I felt like I wanted to get more involved and meet some people it was easy to do and to find a way of connecting that was comfortable for me. My I'm-never-stepping-foot-in-a-church-again teenager loves it here too and even comes on his own sometimes. I especially appreciate the approach to sermons that the pastoral team takes. There is usually a series happening over a couple of weeks though if you drop in and out it doesn't feel like you are missing something. Both pastors infuse the sermons with lots to feed both my intellectual and spiritual curiosity. Also the music is extraordinary - I'd pay good money to see these musicians play on a Saturday night!
