My niece invited us to Midtown as she was being baptized. Service started at 10:30 and as someone that hates to be late, I was very nervous about getting there at 10:45. But to my surprise there was quite a few people coming in around this time. So this gave me some comfort, as soon as you walked into the church we were greeted. They knew were visitors and showed us where we should go. I loved that the lobby had coffee/water. From the outside I assumed this was a small church but by my surprise it was actually a lot bigger than I expected. Service was also really good, I enjoyed the worship music as it was a newer song and the word by the pastor was very relatable but also not over done. There is a location in EG which is closer to our home and we are considering going to visit as we truly enjoyed ourselves. read more

The location is alright. It's on the edge of Midtown and Broadway basically right under the freeway. There is only street parking available so weekends are a nightmare to park at. Sure there is a lot nearby (kind of) but who wants to walk super far. The congregation and pastors are amazing. They are genuine people with interesting and humble opinions. This church doesn't feel like your average church, more of that new-age Christian vibe. They are very welcoming and friendly. Everyone feels like they belong here no matter what race, belief, ethnicity, age, sex, gender, or anything else they belong to. They have multiple rooms for mass and a decent amount of times. They are also accessible online and have recently renovated one of the areas. You don't feel forced to do anything here or donate. There are so many programs and events happening at this church it's kind of wild how they are able to keep up and organize all the events. The live music almost reminds me of a rock concert at times but it's still amazing to hear. They have projectors that display current events, pictures, and other stuff. I especially appreciate the diversity of the community at Midtown. It really feels like everyone is welcomed without judgement or prejudice. They really focus on the community right here in our very own backyard. They take care of families and people right here in Sacramento and the surrounding areas. I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that they have a program for children with special needs. I went to this church about 7-8 years ago, when I was struggling emotionally. There were some lovely people, but overall, the service was consistently performative, with a hyped form of worship. There were many songs that were not faithful to scripture, promoting a feel-good type of spirituality. One I will never forget just repeats over and over, "He is intentional." The worship leader, Christa, seems unrealistically happy and unreal. I just never felt like it was trustworthy and true. Pastor Bob's teaching is rudimentary, and I never felt remotely challenged or was given insight. Again, it felt superficial. It saddened me, because I felt the church had a lot of potential, but after a few years, I gave up. read more

I'm sorry but pastors should know the Bible. They do know the Bible if they're anointed and appointed. God knows when false lip service is being preached to draw in the "new world" of people who flout what God's Word says. I can't be specific but it's a simple matter of reading the Bible, and it's quite plain as day - it isn't a matter of misinterpretation. A five-year-old could understand the topics I'm alluding to. Genesis, Romans, these are not minor books in the Bible that should just be passed over - ones regarding the law. Yes, God loves all His creatures, but not all His creatures are His children if they flat out turn a blind eye to obedience. It's one thing to not know the law; it's another to ignore it and pretend it says something else. And yes, God does have standards. This church is false prophecy, and this too is written in Revelation about the End Times. Jesus loves you as you are, but He wants you to change into His image, not just indulge in your sin. That is called sanctification. It isn't based on Truth distortion. read more

And they all act like as if there's nothing wrong with that just goes to show how ignorant they are. He's from a well to do family and is/was the Chaplain to the Kings, his southern drawl falls flat. All pastors and worship team are performative. They all play their part very well. Everything feels fake and insincere and given a short amount of time, you know it is. Once I recovered to Sac - living in a new city not knowing anyone I found it so helpful to have so many events, classes and opportunities to connect. Amen Jesus, I have found my church. You know how you're on that search for "just" that church? The one that speaks to your Spirit? The one that brings peace to your soul? The one in which you find smiles and respect from the fellow congregants? The one that does Jesus' work in ministries both inside the church and in the community? The one that has authentic ministries for you, your spouse, your children, and everyone inbetween? That's Bayside Midtown. I visited this church on a pretty good church tour of Sac. I wish I had come earlier--but not, or I would not have discovered how great it was for me (no comparisons). The preaching is off-the-chain! From Pastor, to co-pastor, to each Sunday minister, I have never been a day when it was "off". The ministries are engaging! From the every Sunday classes to become an active member, to the weekday classes to learn more about the Lord, to the cell ministries to draw you closer in fellowship, these are the works of the Lord. The events are Bible-inspired. The Lord told us to clothe the poor. We do that. Feed the hungry. We do that. Suffer not the little children to come unto Him. We do that. I think all the events derive from God's dictates to us. I love this church. The feeling I get when I come here is a blessing to me. read more

We came here for the Western Service Workers Association anniversary celebration this past weekend. Midtown Church had donated the space for this event with performances and dinner. We enjoyed the mission driven statements on the walls in the lobby and the community photos. One of the pamphlets in front of the kid's area mentioned the number of hours you get together on Sunday mornings and what you would do with them. A good reminder to consider how I am using the time I have with the people around me. We really only go to church when invited by or visiting someone, and church spaces can still come with mixed feelings. At some point in life, you hit that point where you yearn for more. Whether it's a yearning for a job that presents a higher level of challenges, or a desire to reach an increased level of cardiovascular endurance (yes I know that's super random). For me, I felt like I had reached a spiritual plateau. Not to say that I hit some perfect level of perfection. I just felt like I needed more, and in order to satisfy this hunger for more, I needed to make a change. That change came in the form of leaving my previous church (no hard feelings) and entering the welcoming doors of Bayside Midtown. When you first step through the doors you're greeted by genuine smiles and the smell of hot coffee (free for all attendees). We generally attend the 10am service. However, the church offers four total services on Sunday's (8:30 am, 10am, 11:30 am, and 7pm). I would highly recommend that you arrive at least 10 minutes (I should probably take heed to my own advice) prior to the beginning of service because seats fill up fast! Pastor Bob Balian (the lead pastor) does a great job of referencing scripture and connecting it with current situations that we all face. In many of his sermons, he has given testimony in regards to past issues that he struggled with. I mention this because Pastor Bob (and a majority of the guest speakers) make the atmosphere feel comfortable and non-judgmental. Similar to the church that I previously attended, the attendees here are very diverse. Therefore, you'll meet people of all ages from different ethnical backgrounds. One of my favorite characteristics of Bayside Midtown is their promotion of getting into the word every day of the week. Speaking for myself, attending church on Sunday always gives me a feeling of fulfillment. However, for the other 6 days of the week I feel a slight spiritual void. Luckily Bayside Midtown has daily devotions that are posted on their website (click on the "devotionals" from the main menu). Also, if you ever miss a service, the services are uploaded to the Bayside Midtown podcast. This definitely comes in handy on those Sundays when I can't get my toddler ready in time in order to physically attend service. There are also Small Groups that meet during the week in the evenings. I have yet to attend one. However, my fiancé has attended a couple of times and has discovered that it's a great way to study the word and meet new people. So it goes without saying that you will be fed (both spiritually and physically) if you attend Bayside Midtown. read more

My family and I have been attending The House Christian Church for the past three years. We recently moved from 1900 Broadway to this new location on 19th . It is about the same space overall however a newly remodeled building. The House teaches the word of Jesus, and welcomes all people from different demographics. The church is very diverse and family orientated. You can get involved in serving within the community as well as ministries, attending weekly small groups, or just come to enjoy Sunday services. Pastor Bob is a gifted teacher of the word and delivers a very entertaining semon most Sundays as well as several guest Pastors. Services are at 9:30AM and 11:15AM. They have a well staffed children's ministry. There is also a Junior & Senior High ministry that youth can get involved in church activities as well as learning more about The Bible. You can come casually dressed, and enjoy a great service, all are welcome. read more

I have enjoyed attending The House and am glad that I've had the opportunity to get involved by volunteering and going to a small group. Everyone here has been friendly from Day 1 and very welcoming. There are a variety of ways to get involved here. The church offers classes periodically during the year for adults covering a range of topics from getting your finances in order to marriage classes. There is also a Women's group and Men's group during the week. Plus, there are small groups offered throughout the area, depending on which night you're available and which area you live in. The children's program is also great and there is a good number of kids that attend during the 2nd service. Junior and Senior High meets during the 2nd service on Sunday and during the week. There are currently 2 services (9:30am & 11:15am) and each last around 1.5 hours. The people who attend come from diverse backgrounds. Dress is casual. This church body does a great job of reaching out the community around it, especially to the homeless and children. They are devoted to helping their community and also work with the community of Elder Grove regularly. If you're looking for a church to attend, I highly recommend checking out The House. Midtown Church - 1st service in new building was packed! - Churches Near Me - Sacramento, California

I had the pleasure of visiting this church today. Growing up within the church and being very involved in ministry myself I was nervous to find a new church in my new city. Walking in I was excited to see people close to my age (early 20's) all around excited to praise and learn about the Lord. Worship felt performative, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes a good worship session can be loud and energetic with dancing and fun! Nothing wrong. Then on two separate occasions they began to ask for money. I'm well aware of tithing, I have been a person to tithe happily and rejoicefully. Then they talked about the 6 million dollars they are trying to raise. Some very poorly made jokes were said including "I know where the money is...your bank account." "If you already pledged and think you did your part...." I can't remember exact words for the ending of that last quote but it summed up to, the Lord said you want to do it again. So the Lord told him that the congregation needs to make multiple pledges. They proceeded to use a tactic of "the lord gave you all this and you need to give back to him by giving to us" type thing. The talk about giving money lasted longer than the worship. They made a comment about the lack of volunteers within youth ministry. As a youth leader and daughter of a 12 year youth pastor I am understanding of this problem. But my father would NEVER EVER threaten to turn children away if their parents did not proceed to volunteer. That left a terrible taste in my mouth and made me very upset for those kids who will be missing out on the fellowship opportunities that could very well change the trajectory of their lives. During the study I took a look around and noticed not one person in a 30 ft radius had their Bibles. How can a congregation feel so unbothered coming to a bible study and not bring their Bible? This goes to show the type of church that is being led. A surface level study that people aren't truly being fed the word of God as they don't even bother to bring it with them. It was a topical study, in which I am biased to say its not my cup of tea. I like a study that goes verse by verse and dissects the word of God. The study felt like a comedy show mixed with mentions of the Lord. The points made were rarely backed up with verses in the Bible. I enjoyed the stand for problems that todays society is facing, yet again, it wasn't backed up with the Lords word. I am disappointed to say that I would not recommend this church to anyone who is looking to be fed the word of the Lord in a true and honest sense. I pray this church continues to grow and be servants to the Lord as a way to honor Him in all His glory and in His will. read more

We had the privilege of attending Bayside Midtown when we visited our parents in Sacramento. What a wonderfully diverse church full of genuine love. Everyone is represented at Bayside Midtown. We were visiting family in Sacramento and wanted to go to church on Christmas Eve so we found this place in Midtown. This is a very modern church. The band was loud, and they were amazingly good. Very funk oriented. The line of singers up front and the choir were also amazing. But again, very modern and very accepting. This is the kind of church you can go to in jeans and a t-shirt on Christmas Eve (like me) and feel right at home. The pastor had a great teaching style and I liked his approach very much. He was funny, clever, and preached the word without beating you with it. This is also a very multicultural church. I know it was Christmas and that usually pulls a lot of people in that normally don't go to church, but I got the feeling that everyone is welcome and everyone would feel comfortable here. I left after attending a women's bible study where I experienced palpable hate toward me, a white woman, from other non-white women in the group. It was hard to believe that would happen in a church that preaches diversity. This happened a few years ago but I am writing this review now since the church has decided to support the current narrative of racism. It goes both ways. I will not sit silently by and be demonized for the color of my skin. read more

Then went inside the "church" draped in black curtains like an entertainment venue, complete with someone wearing a shirt marked "security". Hard little metal chairs, people who would not make eye contact, several singers and dancers on the stage. Frankly, I don't even recall if there was a sermon/message. Not for me. read more

I very much enjoy coming to this church which is why I gave it 5 stars. However, during today's 1130am service, when they were praying for the offering before being collected, the "usher/security" guy that was holding the bucket next to me during prayer, I can hear his ear phones in his ear playing "snoog dogg".. Really? In church? I found that very disrespectful especially in the house of God. I will not describe what he looks like because it will be very obvious who he is. I do not know his name but I hope someone addresses this with their staff. read more
