A huge pedestal supports a 126 feet talk tower with a sailor standing on the top looking brave and outward. There are benches for sitting around the monument, but ideal way for an autumn evening like this one is to sit right on the grass under those huge welcoming trees. One can 'see' a bit of history if you closely watch the brass plates on the four sides of the monument, you can also get more details from the walking tour , or the self guided tour which you can play and hear on your earphones.... A nice walk up the hill, a huge monument very neatly maintained, autumn trees, grass, sunset...... perfect setting to put you on a peaceful mood and completely forget all cares. .... THAT is my memory of that monument.

You can also check out the inscriptions and learn about those who died in the Civil War. It seems to always get a lot of people who like to lay or sit and hang out around it. Pretty relaxing place especially when it's nice out. The monument is dedicated to the Union soldiers from Boston who died in the Civil War. It features a bunch of smaller statues made of bronze. On it are a few reliefs. These are scenes from the war. At the top is a large bronze statue. The innocence of the country is represented by a woman. Along these are a few quotes about civility. This says thanks for defending the country from traitors. Along the large monument are a few smaller ones that are pretty cool. It has a replica of an old sea mine. There's also seating around the monument good for chilling out, and the hills around it makes for a good workout.

This bridge is close to Waltham Common/Central Square and Waltham Station. You walk over it to get to the stretch of businesses on Moody Street. As you walk over this bridge, you get a view of the Charles River as you cross. While it is just a bridge, I found it had one of the more picturesque views of this quaint New England town.

It's pretty run down and bumpy but it's a nice alternative and actually keeps a decent amount of traffic off the main highway, so between the two of them they make a good duo. This is the unheralded one, but it's one that I quite like, and it's the best way to get directly into Charlestown from the north end of course. It's not flashy nor beautiful and fancy like the new one, but I do love this bridge. The metal grid means you can see through it. The street that goes over this is Washington Street of course. There are absolutely beautiful views as well and even though traffic is pretty heavy on here, sometimes it can also be great and skip the jams on the highway. The problem is that when the wintry mix snow and rain and slush make the bridge really slippery then it can be really really treacherous - especially because it's a metal grid. That's the only reason I downgraded to four because of how dangerous it is to drive over when it's snowy. And people don't seem to slow down too much.

The Charlestown Bridge is the easternmost bridge over the Charlestown River. It is a plate girder…read morebridge with a truss swing span. It's length is 1,089 feet. The Charles River carries Washington Street which is the longest street in Boston and the Boston Freedom Trail. The time that I spent on the Charlestown Bridge was not a few seconds from a car cruising between Boston and Charlestown on Washington Street but on the Boston Freedom Trail. Along the east side of the bridge the red line of the Freedom Trail leads people across the Charles River to the Charlestown points of interest that are the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill. In similar style to the majority of Boston Freedom Trail points of interest, the Charlestown Bridge is old. Today it is 117 years old. The Charlestown Bridge is parallel to the Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. They are so close that it feels like you can jump from one to another. Although the two bridges are so close together they are worlds apart. When I was walking on the Charlestown Bridge there wasn't much of the bridge to look at. Besides the historic themed street lights bordering the bridge and the truss span in the center, my eyes were not wowed by it. When I was walking along this old bridge between the North End and Charlestown, my eyes were spending more time focusing on the cable spans and architecture of the new Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge. In drawing a conclusion between the two bridges the Charlestown Bridge is strictly utilitarian where the Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge is more aesthetic. Following the Boston Freedom Trail on the east side of the bridge, there were picture post card views of the Charles River below. Below was not too far. There was a slight climb in elevation to the center of the bridge. This is not an elevation to cause agrophobiacs reason to panic. Speaking of acrophobia, the bridge makes a joke out of it. On the short climb toward the tress, painted on the surface of the Freedom Trail is "Agrophobia Friendly zone." At first I thought that it meant that it was because it feels close to the water. I'd find out from one of Yelper Brian S's pictures that it was a joke about the grates on the surface where you can see to the bottom of the river. In spite of the fact that the bridge wasn't high up, there were fine picture post card views. In my opinion, the greatest view is looking northeast with Bunker Hill towering above the Charlestown shore. The neat thing about the view is that the same Freedom Trail following the bridge, leads through Charlestown to the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill. Now walking southbound toward Boston where the traffic lanes are to the right, there was a decent view of part of the Boston skyline ahead. But continuing northbound the bridge concludes a short distance north of the truss. The last site is a large green and white highway sign across the highway with a Shell gas station to the right. Now that I wrote this review on the Charlestown Bridge, my words could end up being irrelevant. It looks as if our reviews are the final words on the Charlestown Bridge. After 117 years, the Charlestown Bridge may soon be resting in peace. The reality is that next year they will demolish the Charlestown Bridge then replace it with a state of the art bridge that will compliment the aesthetics of the Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge.

First, I'd like to make everyone aware that this is the most dangerous rotary in the United States…read more‍. I grew up and learned how to drive on this rotary back when there's a gas station where the check cashing place is now. This rotary does not just go in a circle you have Beach Street you have Leon Highway cutting right through the middle you have beach Street cutting through you have a check cashing place on one side a car dealership on another side you have a bank and a shopping plaza on the other side with a busy Dunkin' Donuts 50 feet away. Everyone goes around this circle like crazy there has to be at least 10 different to 15 different on and off Streets and exits off of this circle. If you come from another part of the country that does not have rotaries I suggest you stay away. I'm giving you a fair warning if you have never been on a rotary before do not attempt to go around this one would be better off on the Auto Chevy Chase circle like in European vacation. As for the circle itself in the summertime, even sometimes in the winter, you will see people walking through people actually walk across this rotary it connects highway streets stores entrances and exits every single one more dangerous than the next.. and this is exactly where my father brought me to learn how to drive as soon as I could go around that rotary 10 times he told me I was on my own. if you can drive around Circle and get off entrance and exit off of the circle you can drive anywhere in the world. Revere actually keep it is all landscaped with flowers, etc. in the winter they have a Christmas display with lights. Very nice circle. It holds a deep spot in my heart. This is probably the one thing in Revere that has not changed since the 70s the rest of the city totally different the circle it stayed the same. My advice when you come to Revere, you go to Bell Circle looking in front of you behind you three times I left and three times to the right at the same time because that's how many entrances and exits people will be trying to slip in and sneak by you. Anyways, take it easy if you never been to Bell Circle it will be an experience the circle awaits.

The Callahan is a survivor from days past…read more I wish someone would give it a face lift. A lot of the wall panels have fallen off and give you the feeling of ""Oh My" is this tunnel safe??? Well yes of course it's safe. These are basically just cosmetic panels which definitely have nothing to do with holding back water from Boston Harbor. The traffic has become slightly better entering the tunnel as the toll booths have been removed and EZ Pass cameras have taken their place. Even still it is difficult entering the tunnel.. The traffic comes from all directions and is still a major cluster. Putting all that aside it is still the easiest and most direct road to get from the North Shore into Boston especially The North End, Government Center, Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall,Downtown, The Commons, The West End, The South End, Chinatown and more. I would say driving though the Callahan is nostalgic. Definitely a real feel of a real Bostonian commute. I have a personal love for this tunnel, back in high school during the summer months, I would ride my motorcycle through from Revere to the North End Union Pool for my summer job as a Lifeguard. I can still feel the exhausts fumes hit me hard in the face the minute I entered the tunnel. I would be so excited to get the first breath of fresh air as I reached the end of the tunnel and caught a whiff of fresh bread and coffee as I turned onto Hanover Street. I personally try to use the Callahan rather than any other route. I give the Callahan Tunnel A Solid 4 Stars.

Amazing tunnels to airport, shame about the price…read more These old, narrow tunnels to the airport are one of the highlights of driving around Boston. There was a time when they were the main underground driving attraction in this area, but now the entire city centre area of Boston (downtown, sorry, I forgot I'm talking to Americans) is below street level (courtesy of the Big Dig, which lasted about 78 years it seemed). They are very impressive high-speed tunnels (because Boston drivers don't slow down for anything, not even Beans, Tea or Chowda. But maybe for Matt Damon or a Wahlberg). They start off in a rough part of Boston with a lot of immigrant communities, and end up out by Logan airport, one of my fave airports in the country. They would definitely receive 5 stars were they free or cheap to drive through, but in my opinion they're a little overpriced.
