This cinema is quietly tucked away in Kendall Square. It's on the smaller side, but they still show all of the major films. There's a snack bar and even merchandise for sale. I was able to snag a Wicked tin and cup at no extra charge, which I honestly thought were cooler than the ones at larger chain theaters--and they offer free refills! The theater itself was very comfortable and nearly packed. The seats are large, plush recliners, though the space to pass by other guests is quite tight, making bathroom trips a bit challenging. Speaking of bathrooms, they're located upstairs and were freezing for some reason. Most of the women's stalls were also marked out of order, which was inconvenient. They seemingly have an issue with the heat as one of the theaters had no heat inside so they were offering refunds. Overall, this theater is really cute and has a lot of charm, but it could definitely use some renovations. That said, I'd still love to come back! read more

I went to see a movie on a Saturday afternoon and the tickets are $16 which I feel is about the same as an AMC. The staff were friendly and overall the theatre was clean. It felt quiet for a Saturday. Unfortunately, the theatre that my movie was in had a strong musky smell so I was distracted for a lot of the movie. I do like how the chairs recline halfway, but wished it was a full recline. I would come back if there was a movie only being shown here and no where else. They have a deal with a local restaurant called State Park. If you get dinner there, State Park will give you $8 tickets, which is worth it. read more

I think they have a good selection of movies and appreciate being able to reserve a seat. It's also good that they don't make you sit through 20-30 minutes of blasting trailers before your movie starts. But the building is practically falling apart. One theater didn't have any heat (20 degree night), the ladies room had at least a third of the stalls permanently out of order, there is rarely toilet papers in the ones that do work and there are broken seats in the theater. Considering the rodent infestation, it would have been an ideal time to have a footrest that raises ... like most of other luxe theaters' recliner seats these days. My friend and I generally love it here and have been coming for years, so much so that we bought the book of passes a while back. Trust that we love it cause we do. However, we went to see Clowns in a Cornfield the other night. Seats were a little run down but the bigger issue is that of the mice we had running all around us/up and down the aisles. My friend mentioned it and I thought he was probably just seeing things or shadows until, lo and behold, 2 of them were on the floor to my right. So while I love your staff, movie selection, concessions, even the parking, I gotta tell you, I am completely skeeved out by what I saw and likely won't be back and BOO to that. read more

If you're anxious about going places this review is for you! I went here almost every day that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was showing & I'm so glad I did! When you're on Binney St. you'll see a bar/restaurant called Ernest Drinks and that's your cue to turn towards it to walk all the way down that pathway to the glass doors of the theater. When you first walk inside the double doors the snack counter will be to your left. To buy or show your tickets head straight down to that random looking podium to the staff person there so they can tell you what theater and seat is yours. Each theater has a giant, lit up sign with its number on it so you know which one is yours. When you go inside you'll see on the floor that each row is labeled with a letter & each seat has a giant number sticker, so it's very easy to find your spot. There's also pretty bright lighting on the floor around the perimeter of the theater so if it's dark when you go in you can still find your seat. The seats don't recline all the way back with a footrest, but they're pretty comfortable. To recline your seat press on the large round button on the inside of your chair by where the outside of your thigh will be when you are sitting down. I found the seats to be plus sized friendly unless you're above a size 26, then I don't think the seats would work for you. The AC was not very strong (in my opinion) when I went so also take that into consideration. To access the bathrooms you can either take that short flight of stairs near the ticket taker to the left of the podium or you can go back to that giant staircase by the front door. I'm pretty sure there is also an elevator by the podium. The bathrooms were very clean despite how terrifying they looked. There is an outdoor seating area that I think is meant for everyone, not just people waiting to see a movie. There are plenty of chairs and tables and the times I sat out there I saw other random people doing the same, so I feel like it's a safe bet to say you can chill out there. Overall the cinema is clean, spacious, and staffed by extremely kind and friendly faces. I asked a million silly questions my first time there and everyone I talked to was very helpful and nonjudgmental. I'll include pictures of the seating labels and the outdoor seating area. The last thing I'll say is that the soft pretzel with a side of cheese is the perfect snack from here. read more

Went to see the infamous BARBIE movie here and was surprisingly & pleasantly impressed by this theatre. I am NOT a movie person at all, but as someone who's only been to AMC in Somerville by Assembly and the one in Downtown Boston, I was pleasantly surprised! The reclining chairs were really comfortable! The movie theatre was also pretty clean, and although the bathrooms are on the second floor, they were ok-ish in terms of cleanliness. Obviously the lines get super long after the movie ends but that's like everywhere. The popcorn was also good from here haha! read more

This is a small hole in the wall movie theater. My boyfriend and I decided to come here to watch a movie on Movie Day as tickets were super cheap - probably $6-7. Service was fast and the place was clean. This is NOT close to any modes of transportation, my boyfriend and I had to walk about 15 minutes from the Kendall Red Line.. If I had known, I probably wouldn't have come. It's relatively clean, the seats do recline(ish), and you basically get what you paid for (at least for me). I wasn't a fan of how the seats only reclined half way, only the back reclines, not the feet portion. The movie theater is relatively small, so the spacing was just odd and the screen was super small. I would probably not come back unless it was for Movie Day, but even so, I'd rather enjoy being comfortable than eat my money. read more

Saw a movie here while on vacation in Boston. Have a Landmark theater at home, so I expected something similar. I was wrong. The recliner chairs in screening room 2 have no foot or leg part to the chairs, and are so deep that when I sat back my legs dangled above the floor. I had to sit perched on the front of my seat with no back support for 2 hours and 10 minutes, very uncomfortable. Could not recline, or even sit back. And the floors were so slippery that I had to hold on to seat backs to walk without falling, and consciously keep by feet from slipping while seated. My husband didn't hold on as we arrived and left our seats, and slipped. I asked an employee if any recliners were available with leg or foot support and was told the recliners in that evening room all lack a leg or foot section. Whoever chose these chairs for Landmark clearly never sat in them. read more

A good local theater that does not have too many screening rooms, thus limited movies shown here. It is difficult to find the entrance my first time here since it is inside a parking garage. It is much easier to navigate this area in my subsequent visits. The screens are generally smaller, but still of high quality. It is a little weird how the room/floor is slanted so people sitting in the front won't block people in the back. The bathroom is upstairs and generally clean (at least compared with AMC and Regal). read more

The cinema is nice, smaller then it the standard which I liked. The seats only half recline, it is not the full leg up experience. Also you arrive and pick your own seats, there aren't seat reservations when you buy your tickets online. The check in process is simple, scan the barcode from your email. Bathrooms are on the second floor so you have to go up and down the stairs. No slush machine. Popcorn was good you have to ask them to pump your extra butter. They have some teas and some alcohol but the overall selection of snacks drinks etc is limited. They have cheap movies on Tuesday's! Overall cleanly and quiet. No big crowds read more

This is the future of cinemas in some of the movie going markets in the US and beyond. Small theaters and seats like lazy boys. Footrests (ahhhhhhh) and seats that go back. The theaters lose in some areas like screen size and the number of seats. Price per seat rises as well as concession costs. Food deliveries to you seat is next. I can only imagine what they'll say do with improving toilet facilities! Oh, I need a much less vivid imagination. Yikes! I like the facilities here. However, it is not easy to get here now. You have to navigate through the parking lot because of some construction going on. read more

We had to leave the movie early because we saw about 4 rats in a span of 4 minutes. I've loved this theater for years but it feels like it's taken a turn lately. I came to two showings here recently in different theaters that were both incredibly musty, and I'm not even especially sensitive to smell. It felt like they needed a dozen dehumidifiers running in each theater. There was also a bunch of popcorn in the seats, which I never used to see. Went here to watch 1917. I was bit worried as the screen size of theater did look small, however, its size sufficed to feel like I was watching WW1 movie. It is definitely bigger than Apple cinema in Alewife. I wish they could decrease the ticket price(it was $14 on Sunday afternoon when I paid my visit.). Also if you sign up for the theater email list, you get the emails for the movies that are not viewed on big chains like AMC or Regal, so that's pretty cool. The one thing that bothered me was that they still don't have assigned(reserved) seating system, which means that it is first come, first served when it comes to seating. I hope they can implement this to their system soon. read more

This theatre used to offer a full roster of indie and foreign films. Not sure when their programming changed, but this weekend, it was full of the same Hollywood films as any AMC theatre. The difference is AMC theatres are more comfortable and up-to-date than the Kendall. It used to be worth the trip and less comfortable seats to see sleeper films, but it's no longer worth it. read more

A seriously underrated movie theater! Movie tickets are only $13 which seems like a pretty good deal to me for the Boston area. Parking is only $3 for 4 hours with validation--so convenient! The concession stand seems to be above par: I didn't get anything on this trip but I noticed they have a huge beer selection and vegan cookies available. It was so easy to reserve tickets online although note that there is a $4 service fee. It seems like they recently upgraded some of the theaters to have really comfy plush seats. I'll definitely be coming here again, it's much more convenient than other larger theaters in the area! read more

It's been several years since I last visited Kendall Cinema, and boy did a lot change. Let me start with the bad: Unfortunately for the theater, there is massive construction going on nearby. This makes it difficult to find, and apparently can even cause noise to be heard when viewing your film (though I was fortunate not to be there while construction was actively being done.) Worse yet, at this very time of writing, the theater is actually temporarily closed (with no defined time to re-open) due to the construction. Now, this is really a shame because, as has always been the case, Kendall provides that perfect mix of film genres that allows for more subdued and understated films, but also somewhat more commercial, mainstream films. Not only that, the seats have definitely seen an upgrade since I was last there. The cushions are super plush and the seat backs have an automatic recline function. Definitely hope they open back up soon and can work through the circumstances next door, as the next nearest options are a bit of a hike if you're in the east Cambridge/Somerville area. read more

I love this theatre for its great selection of films. You can't go wrong. I love this theatre because of its relatively healthy snacks and wine bar. I love this theatre because of its reasonably priced parking garage (especially since you can now pay at the exit with a credit card instead of standing in line). I HATE this theatre for its renovation with oversize seats that are absolutely uncomfortable for short people. All I do is squirm. Finally threw my coat on the floor and used it as a footrest. I can't sit through an entire film with my feet dangling. At least provide foot rests if you want to discriminate against short people.... read more

When I want to watch a movie that I know will be great, I take a (digital) stroll over to Kendall Square Cinema's website to make my selection, since this place always offers a wonderfully curated selection of fantastic, high quality movies. They typically have a healthy mix of independent / foreign films and mainstream-but-well-reviewed films, and I've enjoyed every movie that I've had the pleasure of seeing here (and I totally credit Kendall Square Cinema for that, since they seem to be very deliberate in the films that they choose to show). Other highlights from my visits here include: -The popcorn. Greasy and flavorful and SO much better than what you'll find at a big-name theater. I intended to just grab one handful from my husband's bag and that one handful qiuckly turned to ten. -Chairs were super comfy and reclining - it's nice to see that they've made updates to the theater to keep up with the times! (And more construction seems to be happening - love that they are investing in this place). -Staff is super friendly. Last weekend, we walked in to signs that our desired showtime (despite being more than an hour away still) was sold out - ugh! When we went to buy our tickets for the even-later time though, they informed us that they actually did have two tickets left for that time (score!), and advised us of when we should get there to be present right when our theater opened. Thanks, cinema staff! I can't wait to come back again the next time I need a break from formulaic summer blockbusters and want to OD on perfect popcorn. read more

I had no choice but to go to Kendall Square Cinema. It turned out to be a really nice theater (and for that I'm grateful) but I really had no other option but to go in once I saw this was a MoviePass e-ticketing theater. My husband and I were in Boston for Labor Day and we had been lamenting our inability to see "BlackkKlansman" because of MoviePass' new restrictions/schedule. Yes, we could pay to see films out of pocket but we refuse to until MoviePass is dead in the ground along with our annual subscriptions. So when we noticed a nearby e-ticketing theater (there are none in the south coast) we hoofed it over from the Cambridge Galleria and caught the latest flick we were dying to see. The theater was clean, well staffed, had a decent beer selection and most importantly good popcorn. We paid for our concessions, went into our theater and leaned back in our leather seats (that don't have a leg-lift but do recline). I'm not in Cambridge too often but as long as this theater continues its relationship with MoviePass and keeps offering good brews I'll keep coming back whenever I'm in town. read more

Great movie theater showing indie, limited release & art house films in the Boston area. The theaters are very clean, offer comfortable seating and there is parking in the garage next to it (and plenty of bike racks for those of us who bike there). They serve beer and wine as well as a variety of snacks. The staff is always friendly. I love coming here to see movies. read more

We have enjoyed this theater multiple times, and honestly the general rudeness of the employees was always outweighed by the excellent movie selection and the comfortable seats, and it never felt malicious or inappropriate, just more general apathy for their job. (which everyone feels now and again) This time was a bad enough interaction though that we wanted to post about it on here. It was bad enough and specific enough that I don't want to share exact details as we still want to go there in the future... but let me just say that there are some VERY rude employees there. read more

Some cool selections and a decent interior, but it's a shame they don't care much about the actual experience. It's common practice for movie-goers here to take their shoes (and socks) off and put their feet up on the arm rests or seats. Just what I want: two foul smelling feet right next to me for the whole movie or blocking the lower portion of the screen in front of me. Management apparently doesn't care. read more
