I took Japanese through college; however, I had not had much opportunity to practice or maintain my language abilities in the years since graduation. Here's where Japanese Language Class Boston (JLCB) came in. Sachiko-sensei and Mari-sensei have been incredible resources helping me prepare for JLPT N-4 and prepare my language abilities for working in Japan. Since beginning with JLCB in July 2018, I've taken a variety of intermediate classes (Intermediate Conversation, N-4 Preparatory Class, Genki-2, and more), all have which broadened my vocabulary, grammar, and conversation skills. With JLCB's help, I successfully interviewed in Japanese and received a job offer in Japan! I move to Tokyo in August! :) Additional things to consider: the location, Post Office square, has been incredibly convenient. It is in the heart of downtown Boston easily accessible by all four T lines plus a ~5min walk. The students here are very friendly, a mix of levels (in a good way) and all looking to improve their language skills. The teachers are always looking for ways to tailor the course to the students' wants and needs. Luckily I came across Japanese Language Class Boston and decided to give it a try. I am now in my second year here and still plan on taking as many lessons as I can. There is a lot to learn and the instructors here have so much to offer and are very patient. They do want to make sure that you are getting the most out of the lessons and it shows in the way that they plan their curriculum. You will be asked what you want to learn in the lessons. Jump at the chance and let them know. You won't regret it. That said, no matter what skill level you're at or what industrial background you're from, there is bound to be a class here that is right for you. I am learning for personal interest, some are learning for business purposes. Group lessons available on most days of the week so you will be able to make it to one or two of the classes. The teachers in the infant room are so enthusiastic, energetic, and kind, and take advantage of being in such a central location with frequent visits to the amazing nearby playgrounds, green spaces, and the children's room at the Cambridge Library's main branch. We appreciate how the head of the center fosters a sense of community through teacher appreciation and parent/teacher/child events. The teachers in the infant room (and other rooms) have been at Diki a long time and seem very committed to the center's future.

Each of the teachers know my son by name, even the ones in the baby classroom who don't interact with him as often. The facilities are brand new and beautiful. The director picked out every piece of furniture and every toy herself, and it shows - each classroom has an indescribable homey feel. Our son loves the fish tank right in the foyer. The toddler classroom windows are higher up by the street, so you can easily look down and wave to your child after drop-off and on your way in to pick-up. It's very sweet to peek in and see our son. On the way home each day, he and I stop at the window and he waves "bye bye" to his teachers and classmates from the outside. I have also been very pleased by the variety of activities. The teachers take the toddler students to the park, create age-appropriate art projects, and sing songs during circle time. CCLC provides a morning and afternoon snack for the day. The children have an afternoon nap, and the teachers make sure our son has his "lovie" and favorite blanket. Finally, I really appreciate the level of individualized communication from the teachers. We get an information sheet about his day at pick-up. In addition to what you might expect (times of diaper changes, length of nap, etc.), there is always a full paragraph that begins "Today, I....." written from the child's perspective detailing some of the highlights of the day. My spouse and I love reading through these paragraphs in the evening - the teachers clearly pay attention to our son. I love hearing about him stepping in green play-dough, wandering away from the circle during singing time, and playing with the toy cash register. We also receive emails over the weekend describing our son's week (sometimes pictures, too!). One weekend a teacher emailed to check in and see how our son was feeling after he wasn't quite himself on Friday. I very much appreciate how he is treated as an individual and how much his teachers clearly care.
