Does your neighbourhood have a waitrose? A Jamie's Italian? Several Starbucks? .....congratulations, you're officially middle class. It's likely to have (or be having) a Bills soon too, I've eaten in a number of locations and joking aside, their menu is interesting (in a good way), the food has always been above average and the experience (big, purposely hipstery furnishings and lighting) works - especially if dining as a group. I like Bills, it's the nice side of middle class life.

Stopped in here as a whim, and because my husbands name is Bill! Breakfast had 20 more minutes to be served so we quickly found what we wanted and ordered scrambled eggs, bacon on a toast and then shared pancakes with strawberries, blueberries and bananas. Breakfast was amazing...we loved all of it! The cappuccino was perfect as well. Quaint inside and they sell some of their products along the walls.

    Mum's 50th birthday breakfast!

I was passing Flamstead on my way to pick up inlaws from Luton Airport and as I had time to kill I stopped off here for lunch, it was a Sunday and just after midday. The restaurant at this time wasn't very busy, there was luckily no wait for our table and although there was only 2 of us we were given a table for 4, which is always good as the tables for 2 can be a bit tight. The food was typical Harvester, not fantastic but nothing to complain about but what set this particular Harvester apart from others i've experienced was the genuinely friendly and eager service offered by the waiters.

Such was the case yesterday, the little country pub was fully booked so we had to find somewhere close to eat,and the local Harvester was the nearest option. I can't really fault the food,my steak was nice if a little bloody for medium well, the mix grill that Mrs Z had was fine, the rack of ribs that were ordered looked good, and the other steak that was ordered seemed to go down quite well too. Where the place fell down a bit was in the dirty menu department, which as i'm sure you'll agree is pretty poor going, although tempered a bit by the free salad bar (well stocked) and the free soft drinks refills.. Harvester,a decent second choice, but when all is said and done that's all it is....

Now on to the incredibly unfortunate part: My breakfast. I ordered the Lebanese breakfast plate, which is avocado toast zhuzh'd up with hummus, fresh cream, feta, eggs, and purple cabbage (yes, the addition of this brassica should have been a red flag). What I got was a cute turquoise plate with a mound of what was my order covered in bright pink sludge masquerading as hummus. I'm guessing the chef thought that pink hummus would be an inventive choice against the plate color? Aside from the color, the taste was horrific and most-definitely not homemade. Hummus is at its core essence a 4-ingredient situation (chick peas, water, tahini, lemon juice) but this tasted like only the first two items were used). Underneath my "hummus" was a shed load of boiled cabbage and the lightest of smatterings of old brown avocado which tasted like avocado when it's gone brown and should, therefore, be binned. So two stars for the quaint ambiance and take my warning seriously and steer clear of what I ate. Hopefully, their other offerings are better.

This isn't part of the famous breakfast club chain but it's just as yummy and half the price…read more We were looking for venues to eat in in an unfamiliar area and stumbled upon breakfast club. With just half an hour to spare before it closed (it's only open till 3pm) we sped to the restaurant to find it bustling with customers. The menu is extensive with what must be around 50 items including a specials menu and loads of veggie options. I ordered the grilled cheese sandwich (£6.50) which was dripping with a ridiculous amount cheese. The order also came with a pot of slightly salty tomato soup to dip the sandwich in. Overall the breakfast club has amazing hangover food in a homely environment. Portion sizes are huuuuge too!
