The fried shrimp were plentiful but over breaded. The French fries were from frozen fries which I don't like. The menu wasn't clear and I thought I was getting the "vegetable of the day" and not fries. I called earlier to inquire about the "vegetable of the day" and was told it was Mac and cheese. That must be a Southern vegetable because we didn't have that one in the North. We always considered Mac and cheese to be a carb. However, I was willing to take mac and cheese over frozen fries. I'm so glad I ordered cole slaw. It was tasty and the best thing on the plate. The hush puppies were more like cake than cornbread and just not to my liking. Overall, it was an expensive dinner that just wasn't good. When I called, the lady on the phone was very pleasant and nice. So from my end the service was great. Drove 25 minutes from Virginia Beach, VA to Portsmouth,VA to be very disappointed in the service and the food. We waited 1 ho ur and 25 minutes for our food. That we ordered at 625pm and didn't receive it till 745pm. Our order consisted of a super platter of fish, crab cakes, shrimp, oysters and scallops plus a vegetable. Of course we were notified after we placed the order that there was no scallops or oysters and was promised extra shrimp. Also, we ordered a fried deviled crab. The crab cake was made of backfin, no seasoning on the food, and very greasy. Please don't waste your time or money at this establishment. There is only the owner as the cook and a cashier. First, I love chicken livers. Billy D's is the only place I can find these days (other than my kitchen) that serves chicken livers. And they are delicious! And a huge portion! This restaurant just opened some days ago and while there are kinks to fix, overall I was pleased with my meal and the service. While I am not a huge fan of fried foods, I prefer broiled seafood, but here only fried food is served. Because the restaurant is fairly new, you must give lead way on mishaps that occur. It is already made known that the food is cooked to order ... meaning everything fresh and your seafood will be hot and delicious. I ordered the porkchop dinner which comes with two chops and two sides. My family order the seafood platter which consisted of: crab cake, shrimp or oysters (your choice), scallops and one piece of fish. Also paired with two sides. All dinners I believe come with hushpuppies as well. Parking is limited, but street parking is available. If you are wanting to try this place out, I say pack your patience and if you visit on a Friday or Saturday night, your wait time can be close to 30 minutes. Have fun and enjoy life :) read more

Not impressed. For $88 I expected more. I got pretty much one of everything: crab cake sandwich, seafood platter, flounder dinner, fish dinner, onion rings, and hush puppies. Everything was absolutely average - nothing stood out. I thought I was getting Cole slaw but instead I got what I can only describe as hot cabbage? Maybe? The icing on the cake was the metal shaving that I found in my food. I thought it might be from tearing off aluminum foil, but it was a lot thicker than that. Several inches long. Whatever it was, it's completely inexcusable. Not a great first impression. Won't be back. read more

The fried crabs were very greasy. The scallops seem to have been cooked in oil that needed to be changed. The wait time was also excessive.

Asked him to fry my livers crispy. I could not eat them at all too hard and dry which made them a choker. I cook my own livers and was very disappointed hiw hard he cooked them. read more

Tried the fried crabs, deviled crabs and sweet potato jack. The filling in the jack was so delicious . Didn't care for the jack dough itself. Deviled crabs are okay. Fried crabs are tasteless. I tried the steamed crabs when they first opened and didn't like. Food takes a while to be prepared even when you order online. Owner is nice but food could use a little seasoning. Haven't tried anything else. I am a cook so I can be critical. You may enjoy it though. read more

I had She Crab Soup, Fried Crab and a Fried Fish dinner. I have just returned home from Durham, NC where they haven't heard of Fried crabs, so I have been CRAVING some! Billy, you didn't disappoint! Your version arrived via Uber Eats delivery....it was piping hot, fresh out of the fryer, and oooweee, it made me feel like I was HOME! I'm accustomed to having some additional hot sauce and vinegar shaken on mine, but I didn't mind not having any this time. The batter is actually spicy enough that you don't have to have the extra, but I love that "bite" of the vinegar. The She Crab Soup arrived in a nice sized container, had a delicious flavor, but wasn't hot enough for my taste. It was also oddly white. I would have liked to visibly seen more of the female crab roe that gives the soup it's orange color as well as more crab meat. I also missed the sherry. The filets of fish were beautifully filleted, nicely seasoned and perfectly fried. I had requested additional tartar sauce for my fish, thinking it was made fresh on the premises, and I received several packages of it instead. The Cole slaw was really good, I don't know if it's made on the premises or not, but it is really tasty. Lastly, his hush puppies are wonderful little fried pockets of cornmeal that you definitely want to try! They're the right size, sweet enough, and I don't think he uses onion in his recipe. Either way, make sure you add a order to whatever you're ordering, you won't regret it. I would Definitely recommend Billy D, a fellow Spartan's seafood restaurant as a go to for fresh seafood! OMG! Best fried chicken livers in this area! They were fried to perfection and the seasoning was superb! Top them off with awesome coleslaw and melt in your mouth hushpuppies! The portions were huge and I will have to make two meals out of them which is wonderful! I had the awesome banana pudding and my boyfriend had the bread pudding. Both were sooooooo good! The service was friendly and speedy! Billy D's will be a regular for us! We can hardly wait to try some of his other food! (Sweet potato jack next time!) This little carry out spot offers seafood platters, pork chops and chicken wings. Although I'm not a fan of their fries, their pork chop sandwich and dessert pockets were worth the trip I've been there a few times and the seafood platter is good as well and I love the hush puppies. Um..... does anybody else realize these are NOT even real sea scallops?? Ordered a 1.5 lb. order of raw sea scallops, especially after their advertised price at $12.99 / lb! Considering Harris Teeter had sea scallops, on sale, at $19.99/lb I thought this was a terrific, local seafood marketer's offer. Folks, this is either "pressed and formed pieces of scallop" OR worst case scenario, Skate/ or Stingray meat. All the scallops were practically IDENTICAL in size and were much more dense, and heavier, than any raw scallop I've ever encountered and there's been a plenty! We sauteed ours with a light sear, normal execution, and they felt in your mouth, like stringy and tough. Truth in advertisements would have been appreciated here. I'd have WAY rather bought fresh sea scallops from my local grocery store than these scallop-nuggets. read more

Billy D's fired crabs are they best I haven't had fried crabs in years. And we brought stream crabs as well. It was Worth the waiting.
