    Ackee and Saltfish Specialty
    Latarsha H.

Ackee and saltfish was delicious after I added salt. The Mac & Cheese was absolutely DISGUSTING and the cabbage was flavorless. I ATE THE ACKEE AND THREW THE REMAINING OF THE FOOD AWAY... it was just that bad.

Food is amazing. Service is just as great. Staff always offers a sample if it's something I have never tried.

Over time, you could tell a new resto was going to take it over - in this case, it's El Fogon. El Fogon is a restaurant combining many Latin cuisines. Per their website (https://elfogonrestobarandgrill.com/), they offer food from Columbia, Peru, El Salvador, Honduras and Mexico. That's quite the variety, and when my mom and I looked at their menu, we were both surprised and excited. Fogon's interior looks nothing like the Burger King that it used to be. There's plenty of flair and bright colors - my attention was definitely focused on the esthetic and decor. It was a lot... busy, but I came away impressed, especially since everything was clean and organized. Our server sat us, gave us menus and took our drink orders. She was the only one on the floor and seemed to also be the bartender on duty. There was only 1 other party when we were sat, but roughly 3-5 separate parties arrived after us. After taking some time to look over the massive menu, we decided on the chicharrón appetizer, the tacos de carne asada (mom), and Lomo Saltado. I liked the chicharrón, while the Lomo Saltado was fantastic. Mom seemed to like her tacos, so that's a plus. Neither of us could finish our food, so we had leftovers for later. Although the food was fantastic, the service was... slow. Our server was nice enough, but she was pulled in many directions during our visit. What's worse, she didn't really move with any urgency. Our drink orders took a bit to hit our table; and after we ordered the chicharrón, it took a while for her to come back around to take our entree order. We spent most of our visit waiting - problematic, at best. When we were finished with our entrees, it took a long time for our server to return. My mom has this routine where she starts looking around the restaurant to find and flag down our server. Our server wasn't on the floor - I know for a portion she was tending to the other parties and what have you. But since she was the only server on the floor, it was simply no fun waiting. There was a manager on duty, but he was busy chatting up a four-top that came in. They all apparently knew each other, so there were portions where the manager was ordering our server to get things for this four-top. The manager did nothing but chat up this table, and I decided to shoot him looks because our server wasn't coming through. Mr. Manager finally got the message - he said something to the server, and she immediately came over. We got togo boxes, paid and that was it. As we were walking out, the manager thanked us. So El Fogon may suffer from the same issues I experienced at the Shore Dr Lendy's - lack of staffing. It doesn't help, though, when the lone server on the floor doesn't appear to be hustling. At the same time, I would've liked to have seen the manager help out (to be fair, there was a food runner, but he was a little slick because he made sure not to actually look at other tables while he was delivering food; he just went to tables, dropped off the food, and went right back into the kitchen, head mostly down). I want to drive home the notion that this was only 1 visit. Their service could be impeccable when fully staffed (although I've read a couple of Yelp reviews that seem to support my observation). They are a new establishment - sometimes it takes time before things begin to run smoothly. If El Fogon wants to thrive, they need to address their quality of service. I like their food, though, but if I have to wait this long during each visit, I will quit visiting. Thank you, El Fogon. JV

We started off with the Pastel wrapped in banana leaves, Alcapurrias and relleno de papas. I give the pastel a 4.5 out of five. The relleno de papas a 4 out of five and the Alcapurrias a 3 out of 5. Keep in mind I am comparing this to my mother's home cooking. The pastel was almost perfect. The meat as seasoned very well but not as tender as what my mother used to make. The masa was perfect! The relleno de papas was seasoned very differently than what I am accustomed to but still very yummy. The Alcapurrias were lacking in flavor. My son ordered the Bistec Encebollado with Rice and beans and he was so happy that this dish was very close to our family recipe. My daughter in law ordered the Pernil sandwich which she absolutely loved. My son tasted it and said it was the best he'd ever eaten! My husband ordered the Cuban sandwich which he said had a Puerto Rican flair to it. Puerto Rican Pernil is much different than Cuban Roast Pork which is what he is used to as we live in Miami, FL I only had the appetizers as I was not too hungry to begin with but I was able to taste everything and this restaurant is being added to my favorites list! I will be coming here every time I visit my family. The service was quick and very friendly!

I loved how spacious it is and the staff was so friendly. I ordered ahead online and waited less than 5 minutes for my food. I just happened to be in the neighborhood. And tried the empanadas. 3 for 10$, they had beef, chicken, and cheese. They came with a pickled salad and mild salsa. Very good. So good, I ordered three more. The workers were super friendly, just some good people trying to make a good living. They are not in the best part of the shopping center, but they make do; we ate outside, but I think the location may discourage people from going. It's across the street from the beach, so if you find yourself in the area and want to try something other than local fast food, give it a shot. I would come back.

I love finding authentic Latin American places that have a familiar warm environment. La Boquita is…read moreno different. Its a whole in the wall in a neighborhood thats not the best but unfortunately a lot of good places are. I've been here twice, once for a late breakfast and once for lunch with a buddy of mine. This place centers around mostly South American foods (El Salvador + Honduras) and is a local hotspot for the Hispanic locals around breakfast time. The outside is ugly and parking can be limited but just park at another vacant establishments parking lot. Once inside theres a couple of rinky dink tables and overall the layout reminds me of a butcher shop my grandparents frequent in Puerto Rico...but don't worry its clean and you won't find blood splatter anywhere. The food is cheap cheap cheap! And the portions are large. I usually go for an order of baleadas, which is mostly a typical Honduran wheat flour tortilla folded and stuffed with mashed beans, eggs, Mexican style cream and avacados. One is usually enough but somehow I managed to fit two ;) They also put pork instead or chicken but I opt out on that options. This goes great with coffee too! I try replicating this simple dish at home and fail horribly. They also make bandeja paisa which is usually associated as a Columbian breakfast meal but its quite typical in many countires in Central America. This dish is definitely heafty offering a fried egg, a strip(s) of chicarones ( a seasoned pork rinds that has a chewier texture), refried beans, arepas (corn tortillas) plaintains ( usually sweet) rice and avacados. My friend who is a Honduran native usually opts for this as he eats meat. He says it reminds him of home and that this is his favorite local joint for it. This place is a small family owned business and has been here for quite a while. They know thier regulars and are nice people. They aren't too chatty almost shy but that doesn't stop them from inviting you to eat some good food at thier place. Overall, I'd be a regualr if I didn't live 30+ miles away but when I'm in the mood for a full belly and food that is reminescent of my culutral roots I go here. So please people come here and give it a shot :)
