Oh man, Billy Ray's. Possibly the food highlight of a cross country trip taken with two best friends. We found it by looking up places that had a karaoke bar so we could sing "Starships" by Nikki Minaj or maybe "Accross the Universe" by the Beatles, or probably any David Bowie song. Anyway, Billy Ray's did have karaoke, but we came on the wrong night, whoops! It was a happy mistake though, as Billy Ray, a great guy with a great mohawk, personally came out from the kitchen, sat with us, asked us where we were from, where we were going, things to see in Roswell, NM. Apparently there's a famous horse in Roswell that you can visit? We opted not to, but Billy Ray was very friendly and nice. The waitress we had adored him, and it seemed like he was a well-known member of the little town. He was amazing. He brought us each out slices of cheesecake at no charge. Thanks, Billy Ray. Also, as a side note, those symbols he draws on the food are cacti...NOT swastikas, so don't be alarmed. read more

We were disappointed in our visit. We went for lunch here and were not impressed. The place itself was dark and empty. It's a bar that serves food. The staff was OK. The menu was tiny and it was mostly sandwiches. We ordered sandwiches. We got our food fairly quickly. The sandwiches were served with chips, a pickle. We do not like to eat with our fingers and the waiter did not give us the utensils. Food was nothing special, prices was average. I would not recommend this place. read more

The food is really great I had the chicken enchildas, overstuffed with shredded chicken breast and topped for green chile sauce. Delicious. Husband had the relleno-stuffed ribeye the chef decorated the steak with our names. Fun guy. The bonus was that it was karaoke night. Some really good singers in Roswell, includig me, the visitor. After looking on Yelp and Trip Advisor we decided to give this place a try. We weren't sure when we walked in if they even still served food (it looked like a bar and no one else was eating), but we were given menus and ordered some appetizers and a la carte New Mexican food. The red & green chile was fantastic. I had the chicken quesadilla with red and my colleague had the rolled beef enchiladas with green - both were excellent. Neither of us was hungry enough to try the chile relleno stuffed ribeye, but on my next trip here I will try that for sure. read more

Five stars for the service, three stars for the food. A well deserved four star average. (disclaimer: the four star rating is only compared to the restaurants in downtown Roswell. There are some cleaner, better restaurants on the other side of Roswell) A buddy of mine and I were passing through Roswell on a road trip north and found this place through yelp (what did I do before I used yelp I have no idea. Those were dark times I'm sure). We initially tried to go to Big D's which was a few blocks away. It was rated a little higher yet, alas, we found the windows shuttered on arrival. Like many other places in the small town, it appeared to be closed for good. We were not disappointed by Billy Rays though. It's nothing special by any means. It has kind of a honky tonk bar kind of feel with a decent sized bar lining the back wall and a few small TVs playing sports spread out around the restaurant. We were served very promptly by an incredibly sweet lady who have the kind of personal service you might expect in a small town cafe. I felt just like a local. She was quick to bring the drinks and even brewed us a pot of coffee. We had the prime rib French dip sandwich which was the special that day. The food came out quick which could be a testament to the chef or just the fact that we were the two of the four people in the place. The au jus was a little overwhelming but the sandwich was good nonetheless and the fries were acceptable. I couldn't get over the service though. Real grade A stuff. For a town with few options this will do just fine if you are passing through. read more

Great find right off the main drag. I'm in town infrequently so like to try out the different restaurant options and rarely hit the same place twice. The food here is so good I came back two nights in a row for the end of my visit. All the food is fresh prepped, no pre-constructed dishes or ingredients. Even the salsa is made there. The burritos are amazing, and as noted by others here the beers are the coldest and crispest in town. It definitely seems like a dinner place when their full menu is available. The staff is great, Billy came out and talked with everyone and his wife tends the bar. Super nice people who treat their regulars and strangers (me) like good friends. This is a regular stop for me now on every trip I will make in the future. read more

We went for lunch here and were not impressed. The menu was TINY and it was mostly sandwiches. I had the taquito special, which was really fatty meat. Ick. The kids had a fairly dry grilled cheese. My husband had a ham and cheese, which the ham looked like it came from a package, more like bologna. I have a feeling that dinner here is the way to go. Yelp reviews led us here and we were more than satisfied. Did you know that fries are hand cut, as are the monstrous and juicy steaks? Did you know that the batter for the rellenos is made for each order? Well we did not know that, and the waitress failed to tell us, which would have helped set the expectation and would have have earned 5 full stars. The dinner was served 40 minutes after ordered. We drove through town and found this place out of luck. The Hog BBQ sandwich was amazing. I'm originally from SC so I'm picky with pork BBQ sandwiches. My email I've had the taco salad which was not your typical low end taco salad. He beef was quality steak, cooked to perfection. My son had the blacked catfish which he loved even though he's not a huge spice fan. I had a local IPA and there were a few other craft beers to choose from. The MX martini was great. We just had them not include sprite which for some reason was part of their recipe. The service was a bit slow, but super friendly. read more

This place! Loved it for so many reasons...at first glance it had the look of a local dive . But this dive has the best food in town. They use only fresh ingredients and everything is house made from scratch and so fresh. You will be so happy. We started with the fired zucchini sticks served with house-made ranch dressing. They hand cut fresh zucchini and lightly fry it. This appetizer was so delicious. I had the enchiladas and my husband had the Ribeye with fresh cut, house-made french fries. No one makes in house made, fresh cut fries anymore. They were so delicious. I actually may stop by again today to have a beer and another order of those fries. They are that good. My husband's ribeye was huge , tender, well seasoned , and delicious. They cut their steaks in house. My enchiladas were delicious. Everything is so fresh and delicious. You must stop here. They serve food until 8pm so go early. read more

I've lived in Roswell for almost 11 years now and my only treks into Billy Ray's had been for drinks and love music. Had heard about their steaks but I normally don't eat steaks away from my own BBQ and Smoker. Decided to go with a couple of friends and give the Ribeye a try. In fact all 3 of us did the Ribeye. The 10oz one on the menu. They were prepared as requested and were great cuts of meat. Nuf said on that topic....the darn 10oz steak covered my plate and was at least 1-1/4" thick...I kid you not. I can put away some groceries but no way could I finish this after my salad, baked potato and a few Coors Lites. I ended up taking a 4" x 4" piece home with me. Our two pups had half of it when I got home and were dually impressed as well! read more

More of a bar feel than restaurant. Went in with a group of 8 - one of which is a two year old. Dark with a faint cigarette smell, the dining tables are situated between a bar and dance floor. One server during the time we went (noon on a Friday) and she let us know she wasn't happy about it. A few in our group ended up with upset stomachs and did not have the same orders. Kitchen is visible from dining area so you can see things are microwaved - including taquitos and chicken for chicken sandwiches. Go to McDonalds or Subway, both of which are close by. At least you will know what you'll get. read more

This place is the most relaxed easy going place. The service was friendly and kind. The green chili stuffed ribeye is not to be missed!!! It was a great cut with incredible flavor!! This place is a little local gem. Me and my mom stopped here on a road trip from Michigan to Arizona, we checked out an alien themed shop, and the lady there said this was the best place in town. Boy howdy was she right! First the servers are super nice, and the chef comes to your table. Chef Todd is amazingly nice, he gave us a sample of the prime rib, two sauces, and the cheese cake. First I should say I don't eat beef, but I wanted to be polite, and it smelled good so I took a bite. It was sooo yummy, full of flavor, and tender. If my tummy could handle beef, I would eat a whole plate of this. The sauces were a bit hot for my taste, but good. Finally the cheese cake.... can I say wow! It tastes home made, way better then any cheese cake I have ever had in a restaurant. Top notch! Now I ordered half enchiladas, and half chicken tacos. The enchiladas were ok, not the best I have ever had, but good. Now the tacos were, in fact the best I have ever had. Seasoned perfectly, and just fantastically tasty! read more

Lots of fun! The owners are great and very kind! I had fun joking around with them too! Nice bar atmosphere with regular people just enjoying dinner and drinks... I had the Chili relleno stuffed ribeye with hand cut fries and WOW!! It's amazing! I've been a lot of places and ate quite a few steaks and this is easily one of my favorites!! Upon walking in, we questioned the 4.5 average rating, but our hesitations were quickly assuaged. LOVED this place! Owner operated, we felt welcomed and at home from the start. Debbie was behind the bar and in addition to pouring a generous drink, served as our entertainment for the evening. This experience alone was enough for 4-stars, but then we got to the food. This is how it should be done - limited menu, fresh ingredients well prepared. From the homemade salsa forward it was excellent. My friend got the relleno and enchiladas and I went for the signature relleno stuffed ribeye. Wow. The pictures on yelp speak for themselves - plenty for two if you are not big eaters. We stopped here after looking on yelp and have to say the reviews are spot on. The place is more of a bar than restaurant but it has lots of character and friendly staff. The food was amazing - salsa was the perfect consistency, tortillas held up in the enchiladas, and the sauces had just the right kick. Of course we asked about the prime rib stuffed with chile relleno, but still had a long drive ahead of us so tried to keep the meal 'light'. But we couldn't say no to the cheesecake. Hmmmm where should I start? First time we went in was a Friday night. Went with 4 hungry marines ready to eat the town empty. We ordered the stuffed rib eye on suggestion from the staff. AMAZING, biggest and best steak any of us had had. My husband's friend from Texas who owns a BBQ joint couldn't stop gushing. Next the beer ... colder than any beer around. Had almost everything as well. Second time was probably the best, went for karaoke and really got to let loose. Our server for the night (cas) was fun, fast and always cracked jokes. The bartender who I'm told is the owner made one of the best Chiltons known to mankind. I think my favorite was that the security guy at the door sang randomly. He really got the crowd going and made it that much more fun. Looking forward to another weekend in Roswell. This time we know where we will be Friday and Saturday night. read more
