I was there because I had a bad fall and I had a dexa scan which revealed I had Osteoporosis of the spine, not bad in the hips and her first thing was to recommend a Prolia injection/infusions Big Pharma again! Never mentioned side effects which in my profession as a Dental Hygienist have seen first hand. Loss of teeth and bone. I will never forget a patient that came to me 3 months after Prolea infusions. Patient had 4 titanium implants placed 6 months prior, they were doing well prior, her concern they were all loose and falling out at $6000 each! Gone following her infusions. My worst nightmare! Builds the bone in the body but, reverses it in the mandible. Look it up. What about nutrition? Never once mentioned that because all many Doctors do is push drugs with serious side effects! And get kickbacks from the pharmaceutical companies. Basically she flat out told me if I did not get it I would be an old lady walking around all hunched over. I believe in nutrition and exercise over drugs any day of the week. Unfortunately they don't teach much of that in school. I looked her in the eye and said, "watch me" i walked out! I do not recommend her at all! I will never go back to her. It's been eight months since my son's surgery, and I really wanted to write this sooner!…read more We had initial consultations with two Santa Barbara foot specialists and decided to go with Dr. Harrison. SO glad we did. His thorough study of all the reports, thorough examination of his feet (both were involved), and further questions resulting in more images, followed by taking the time to explain and educate, assured us that we would get the best outcome with Dr. Harrison. Everything he said jived with all the research I had done, as well as what I knew was on those reports (I couldn't say the same for the other doctor we saw, who had much cooler wallhangings in her office- and this created a challenge in explaining to my son who he should go with). I had researched and read that he would likely never walk normally again and that he would likely have to order specially made shoes to fit his deformed feet. In contrast, as of right now, although he still has months of physical therapy to go, 6 screws and a plate in one heel, and 2 screws in the other, he has been traveling internationally, is able to walk practically unhindered mostly all day, and he has been skiing. His gait is almost perfect and his shoe size increased by only 1/2 a size - Vans off the shelf - and he swims just fine! We can thank Dr Harrison for his amazing skills, for truly caring, for having the respect and personal regard toward his patients to explain, and for taking the time to get it right.

He didn't offer solutions, didn't offer guidance on pain management, he didn't say much in general. It was like pulling teeth to understand my options and what I could do. He was not informative at all. I since bought toe spacers (not his suggestion) and my pain went down from a 8 to a 2 which is amazing. (Right one in September of 2020 and the left one November 1st, 2021.) For both of them, the pain I had walking into the hospital was greater than all that followed in post-op and including physical therapy and occupational therapy. First, he is a doctor who will listen to you. He has the experience, skills, and knowledge to diagnose correctly the issues and offer the absolute best protocols to be successful in dealing with them. In my case, total knee replacement was the best and only procedure. Dr. Hurvitz is very down-to-earth and will take the time to make sure that you understand everything that will happen and any possible side effects. After each of my knee replacement surgeries, he would come by to answer any questions and to explain how the procedure went. His experience, skills, and surgical procedures enabled both knees to recover quickly and with less pain. In fact, the initial assessment by my home health physical therapist, just four days after the surgery, revealed that I had already met and/or exceeded the goals set by the home health physical therapist to exit their program. This is entirely due to Dr. Hurvitz's advanced procedural skills and protocols that he uses during his surgeries. I had positive outcomes for both knees demonstrating that he is consistent with his work as well. I highly recommend Dr. Hurvitz for any Orthopedic work.
