Magnificent, adventurous, and endlessly curious, that's the spirit of my visit to the Montreal Biodome. I'm glad I arrived right at the 9 AM opening. With only about 50 people in line, I had the space to move freely, look up into the treetops, and peer down into rivers and tanks without feeling rushed. It felt immersive from the start. What makes this place special is how alive it feels. No cages, no bars, just ecosystems. Birds glide overhead, and wildlife lives within carefully designed natural habitats that feel both safe and intimate. Close enough to connect, far enough to respect the wild. Accessibility was thoughtful too, with both stairs and a smooth walkway option. Getting there early made all the difference. By my second loop, the school groups had arrived and the energy shifted from calm exploration to lively chaos. The Biodome itself is massive, divided into five distinct ecosystems. One moment you're wrapped in tropical warmth, the next you're stepping into a colder, northern world. It's like walking through climates instead of hallways. Location is another win. It's right outside Viau Station, making it incredibly easy to reach. This was one of our stops before a tour of the Olympic Park. It was nice to see the reuse space for a biodiversity zoo. You get really close up to the animals. It's nice seeing the different biomes present where animals live. Luckily when we came, the animals were quite active. I know some other people have mentioned that they didn't see the animals or they were sleeping. Overall, it's a fun adventure, but only really a lot one and a half hours for this experience. You will finish otherwise very quick. There's not a lot of food options here. The cafeteria unfortunately is a vegetarian which was so so in my opinion. read more

The biodome does a good job of making you feel like you are walking into different worlds. I loved seeing the capybaras relaxing next to birds and monkeys. The animals in the rainforest section were not behind glass, so I was able to really feel up close and personal with them. I laughed so hard when I saw live raccoons in an exhibit because raccoons are considered pests in America, yet I saw many visitors taking tons of photos of them! I found this attraction to be overhyped. The concept is cool, and if you're a kid, then seeing all the animals and plants must be great, but for an adult the things that stood out most were: - We had to wait an hour once we received our tickets to be allowed to enter - the main building did not have strong enough AC, and many of the exhibits were understandably very warm so it wasn't easy to remain in them - most of the exhibits were so crowded, especially around where the animals were that you couldn't really get close or see much - many of the animals were napping or out of sight, so again there just wasn't much to see - the cafeteria we waited at for entry had good food options, but the eating areas were filthy from all the camp kids visiting, and again just very warm inside read more

On a cold and cloudy day a trip to the Biodôme was a great break from exploring outside. I enjoyed my trip here, which has a few different ecosystems of the Americas. You can expect to enjoy the rainforest, underwater life, the maple forest, Labrador coast and subarctic islands. While the Biodôme was primarily filled with families an small children on a Saturday, I do think this visit made me inner child happy. I may be an adult, but seeing penguins will always make me smile, an seeing animals like beavers and birds which I don't normally see was so cool. I am not sure about any amenities of the space because we only went through the different ecosystems but I do think they have a restaurant as well as a cafeteria where you can enjoy food you brought in. As it was a Saturday in the afternoon, the exhibits did get a bit crowded so maybe an earlier visit will allow you to beat the crowds. While we ubered on the way, the Biodôme is located within a quick walk to the metro so it is easily accessible with public transportation. read more

Very neat concept, it's a nostalgic place for me on account of going when I was much younger, Now that I am old enough to appreciate it, I would have loved more signage about the particular animals in the exhibit, and colored photos so it is easier to tell them apart (especially in terms of bird and fish). Would love to see it expanded, it felt much larger when I was younger but nowadays a little small-- you would expect to spend 3 or so hours but it really only takes 1.5 or so. read more

Basicly an indoor zoo with several different ecosystems including tropic rainforest, maple forest, arctic. Highlights include penguins, otters, and tropical birds. Spent a good 30 minutes watching the otters go out of their ground holes and into and out of the streaming water. More time spent watching an orange colored monkey hiding in the trees. Never come here on a weekend, given the crush of visitors with children, especially in early April, where the outdoor activities like the botanic gardens and the Japanese tea gardens are closed. read more

The tropical zone is very humid and hot. But the other zones were quite comfortable afterwards. First time going to the Biodome, and the whole experience was meh. I was expecting to spend a couple of hours here, but we got through the four exhibits within the hour. It was extremely busy and packed on a late Thursday afternoon (Summertime with lots of summer camps), and hard to really sit back and enjoy our time here and take everything in. The rainforest exhibit was fun, but it was the most packed exhibit, and again, very hard to take everything in. We did enjoy cooling off in the artic exhibit and got to see the penguins, but I did feel bad as a lot the penguins had their backs turned from the crowds. I was expecting the Biodome to be bilingual, but it was so hard to get any staff to speak in English, even though my husband was clearly struggling. From speaking with security, asking questions, and ordering food, nobody would budge and they continued to just watch on as my husband struggled. For instance, my husband ordered a tomato and basil sandwich in English at the cafeteria, and the staff acted confused as he ordered it, until he said "tomate basilic" it was quiet humorous but also extremely frustrating as this is a tourist spot and should be fully bilingual. There are a couple of washrooms on site, but expect lineups as they only have a few stalls in each washroom. Cafeteria on site is pretty pricey, but they offer plenty of healthy options like salads an bowls. Expect to pay $2.00 for a small cube of cracker barrel cheese though. read more

I visited here on a field trip from the National Audubon Leadership Conference. Everyone that came through was extremely impressed and in awe. I think the idea and execution is perfect. There is a wide variety of wildlife and plants, showcasing many different environments. Some of the birds are free roaming since there is a net above which is really cool and obviously better for the birds. The parking had plenty of spots and even space for the two big busses we came on. I didn't have a lot of time to go through it and plan to come back asap to fully explore the area. read more

We were looking for a fun family activity, where we could take our little one. We weren't looking for anything too chaotic and definitely wanted it to include animals. We decided to go to the biodome, which was a great little outing. There were several areas where varying ecosystems were created, along with the appropriate plants and animals. Our little one is very curious and really enjoyed seeing the animals. He had a chance to see birds fly around, penguins, fish, and other interesting animals. It wasn't overstimulating for him, which was a plus. The only criticisms I have are the number of ecosystems and the lack of changing tables in the restrooms. The building is rather large and I'd hoped for more. We got through the levels pretty quickly. Also, I wasn't able to change my baby until we got to the car because there were no changing tables in the bathrooms. Not to mention that there weren't many bathrooms. I thought this was odd considering so many children visit. Other than this, it was a nice visit and children 0-4 yrs enter without a charge but still need a ticket! It was fun. read more

Overall a neat place with a very interesting concept. This spot is definitely geared towards kids and family, but still neat to check out as an adult. We bought tickets from the kiosk when we got there and our time slot started about 15 minutes after that. We wandered around for a bit before we went in. As two adults wondering through, we were in and out of there in about 45 minutes. It was neat to go through all the different biomes, from the tropical to the arctic. The penguins were the cutest of them all and it was neat to see them all swimming around. It was pretty crowded, so it was tough to see some of the animals, I imagine if you went on a weekday it would be less busy. read more

A super interesting hybrid of a zoo, botanical garden and aquarium. My kids loved it, but be sure to dress in layer when going. The polar section lives up to the name as it is encased in ice, while the tropical rainforest section was as humid a can be. There were several groups of camps on field trips, so the sections make it easier to avoid clusters. Also, be sure to upper area as it give you a better view of the sheer scale of facility. First time going to the biodome and I thought they did a great job with the renovations. I don't remember what it looked life before unfortunately, but even without that everything looked very good and is structured in a way that facilitates the flow of people and allows you to see everything in order. I do think they should figure out a way to manage the crowds better because it fills up fast and the areas themselves are big but in order to enjoy your visit, it would be nice to have less people. Your tickets are timed but it does not feel like they actually enforce that. I visited on a Sunday morning at 10:30am and it got very busy around noon. Regardless, I really enjoyed my time here. I had a great time at Biodome! Not sure why it has such low ratings on Yelp but if you have an hour to 1.5 hours to spend and want to walk around to explore animals, this is a must see! I don't really suggest this attraction if you are short of patience and there will be a thousand kids running around. That was my experience, but maybe on different days of the week and in different weather, the Biodome is better. I may also be spoiled because we have one of the best zoos in the world (literally) where I live, with its own Desert Dome, Rainforest Jungle, Aquarium, etc. Needless to say, I wasn't too impressed with the Biodome. It was pretty small, VERY crowded, and a bit pricey for what you got. The animal enclosures have painted backgrounds and are a little bit depressing. If you have kids and have that particular patience to be around tons of kids in a small space, then it may be a good option for you! If you don't, I suggest you skip the Biodome and go to the Botanical Gardens instead. It has just as much wildlife and more natural beauty. read more

Once again, I am facing Yelper's Block. I have been trying to start this review for the past five minutes and ended up staring at a blank screen. Thus, here are the unbridled ramblings of a man who doesn't know any better. My first mistake is conflating the Biodome and the Biosphere. They are, in fact, two different things, though they are under the same system/network. I'm not complaining... heck, I'm not even mad. I embraced the Biodome in all its glory. Frankly, I'm just grateful I didn't end up under the "Dome" from the Simpsons movie. But I digress. The Biodome is home to five different ecosystems that you can explore. These include maple forest, tropical rainforest, and a subarctic (plus two more I can't recall right now. Glasses wearers, beware! Going into the Arctic exhibit, followed by the rainforest, will have you fighting fog! What's nice about the ecosystems is how immersive they are, within reason. Especially in the forest habitats, while the animals are the same distance away (not that there's anything dangerous here), you walk through that space. If there are birds, they may very well live and fly right overhead. Alas, I must disappoint; you cannot waddle with the penguins or swim with the fish. Unless you want a lifetime ban and a police record, that is! Something I felt needed to be added was more signage. Other than a single sign telling me to look up to see a sloth, there wasn't much to say to me what I was looking at. I saw some Capybaras and had to use Google's Lens feature to confirm: "Yup, that is a Capybara." Speaking of unique animals, they have a bat cave. Don't panic; they are behind glass. Still, I don't think I've ever seen bats before, and it was fantastic to get to channel my inner Dracula! I also found that the Biodome was smaller than I expected. It took no longer than an hour to an hour-and-a-half to get through and see everything. Finally, do expect many groups of kids from school or summer programs. I don't particularly appreciate screaming, but we've all been young and excited about something. Maybe we, the adults, forget the excitement of being a kid. Shame on us. Thus, a fine way to spend an hour and a half. While the size wasn't grand, and the signage was lacking, seeing some exciting animals in unique habitats was cool. read more

Fun place to take the little ones. A miniature zoo of sorts, but indoor so a nice activity during those winter months. The Biodome consists of 4-5 different exhibits, representing the different ecosystems in Canada. The most popular being the Sub-Antarctic Islands which houses the penguins. That might be worth the price of admission alone, seeing all the penguins and puffins hop and swim around. I believe price for admission is ~ $22 for adults and free for children under 4 years old. Definitely saw a good number of toddlers under 4 and also a large number of kids on field trips. Overall I think you can spend around 2 hours here. Longer if you plan on splitting time up eating at the cafe. The actual number of animals is not overwhelming, but the penguin exhibit makes up for it. read more

The Biodome, not to be confused with the Biosphere, was a fun, relaxing way to spend a cold winter afternoon in Montreal. After grabbing brunch, my husband and I made our way over to the Biodome (labeled science museum on Google but effectively an indoor zoo + aquarium + garden) on the green metra line. It was straight forward and easy to find once exiting the Viau station. We had purchased tickets online the night before so we were able to walk right in. We slowly mazed our way through the exhibits, grateful to have saved the tropical exhibit for last since we enjoyed it the most. We spend a total of 2.5 hours meandering; although I'm sure you could see it all in 90 minutes. Great place to bring young kids or go on a leisurely afternoon date. We ended our visit with a reasonably priced, sparkling cider from the gift shop to rest up before our journey home. The only downside was losing my beanie (hat). We checked with lost n found but it hadn't been returned. Nonetheless, security and staff were friendly and helpful! Great use of the former Olympic stadium! Date of visit: June 13, 2023 This was high on the list of "Must See" places in Montreal, but I'm still not quite sure why. It was a combination of a zoo and an aquarium, but didn't do either of them particularly well. The space is very interesting, and I can appreciate the repurposing of the space from the old Olympic games. The Biodome is also FILLED with screaming children running with reckless abandon. Staff were nowhere to be found inside the different biospheres and apparently chaperones were on vacation as well. The oddest thing we saw there is actually something that we didn't see: signs. There wasn't a single sign, placard, or monitor for any of the animal exhibitions. The printed maps listed the creatures that could be found in each area, but none of the tanks or enclosures had anything identifying the animals or sharing interesting facts about them. I've been to dozens of zoos and aquariums but cannot recall a single other location that did not share descriptive information about the things you paid to see. Despite those large negatives, the facility itself is well-kept and spacious, I didn't really mind the banshees known as Canadian children all that much as there was plenty of space for them to keep their distance! read more

Very interesting place, like a zoo, aquarium, and greenhouse combined into one. My dad and I went on a Friday afternoon, as we had gotten a passport for all the place for life attractions (biodome planetarium, insectarium, botanical gardens). I've been to similar places before, but the 4 different biomes made it special. The animals were all pretty active when we were there, and my personal favorites were the beavers, the bats, the capybaras, and the penguins. Even if the animals aren't active, it's a pretty nice walk around. The sub arctic had cool ice walls, while the ocean and jungle had nice second floor walkways as well. Going up the terrace from the rainforest and seeing everything from above was really cool. Our experience was vastly improved because it was quiet, and after going back the next day to see many screaming children I was reminded of how lucky we were. Animals like the beavers seemed to be more active in the afternoon, so I'd recommend going on a weekday afternoon if you're traveling here. This place really awed me the first time, but I don't think I'd rate it higher than any other zoo or aquarium if you go on the weekends. read more

Cost is $22CAN for adult and includes taxes. The place is not super huge but the way it was architected was pretty cool. There were 3 areas (covering icy climates, Canadian temperate zones, tropical areas). There is a free app (search for Space for Life on App Store) called EPLV you can use to get a pictorial guidance of the exhibits, plants and animals. The app is around 170mb and if you are a tourist with limited downloads, you better have it installed at your home or hotel before coming to the museum. This place is amazing! It features a polar habitat with ice covered walls and penguins and puffins and there's a rainforest with massive trees, a waterfall, parrots, exotic frogs, monkeys, a bat cave, a cayman and other fascinating animals. I really enjoyed it and so did my goddaughter. I think a great addition would be perhaps a butterfly farm and I think the cafe could be improved with more options and milk for the tea but overall a great day out! read more
