Having been to every donation center in the city, this center is the best paying most organized center. If you come late to your appointment, you will be deferred. Good. I mean you come here to donate plasma and get money for it, dont be expecting the red carpet rolled out for you. Staff interaction here is spotty at best - some unfortunately have a terrible attitude throughout your entire visit, making you feel like a total inconvenience and that they dont want to be here (much like my visit today) and some are so upbeat and kind. Its a crapshoot what interactions you get, but youre also not coming here for customer service, youre here to donate to get paid. Something I have to remind myself of often. The facility itself is clean, for the most part. Time to time when Im walking in or walking out of my color section Im assigned to, youll see some blood spots on the floor or worse - on the bed and/or armrest (missed spots from cleaning). Im new to Charlotte from Southern California so seeing security walk laps around the perimeter and seated inside makes me feel relieved for my safety inside and that someone at least is watching my car/belongings inside my car. Tuesdays are the worst day to come in terms of wait times just from past experiences as Tuesdays are their first day of the week (theyre closed on Mondays) so EVERYONE comes. On a really busy day, my entire time spent here has reached an hour and a half. The girls at the check in/vitals are backed up, and there's typically only 1 or 2 to send everyone back to their sections. BioLife is convenient because if you travel or are closer to another location for whatever reason, youre not tied to this specific clinic, and can donate at any BioLife center, as long as youre in the system! BioLife Plasma Center is the worst and one of the lowest paying Plasma Centers I've ever been to, and I know this as a fact because I've been to them all (CSL pays the best here in Charlotte, Octapharma is 2nd best, BioLife is 3rd, Grifols (aka Talecris) is 4th, & Parachute is 5th and the worst paying. While half the staff is polite, kind and professional, I've had a few bad experiences with a few beautiful ladies (screeners and phlebotomists) that were totally rude, insensitive and unprofessional. I'd mention their names here, but it wouldn't benefit me, and I'm soon discontinuing donating at this facility anyhow. I'm going back to CSL. BioLife really doesn't want to pay it's donors; they look for any and every excuse they can come up with for them to defer you; and when they defer you, they won't tell you in person like the other places will. Because this center is non-confrontational, you won't find out you've been deferred until you try to schedule your next appointment. "Surprise! You are not eligible to donate on this day because you've been deferred." And then you call in to find out why and for how long. They have a policy that is, if a person slow flows for more than 45 minutes (beit due to low hydration or because the donor drank coffee before their appointment), the phlebotomist assisting that donor has to immediately end the session early by taking a partial donation and returning your blood to you and handing you a bottle of water, all the while acting like nothing went wrong "thank you, have a nice day! See you next time." Basically, They like lying to you to avoid drama. I've been deferred 5 times since I started going here in January. My current deferral is over personal hygiene (understandable), but the screener didn't tell me, after they had made some trash comments about how bad the room smelled, sniffed near me to pinpoint the problem, as i was being screened, the screener and her supervisor conferred with each other. As they pantomimed in front of me acting as if they made an error on their computer, I overheard them saying "oh no, no, no this defers him." The entire time, I was clueless that I had an odor issue because I had freshened up and thought I had smelled decent enough to come in. They had acted like I lit the place up. When I heard them say "defer" I called them on it. "I'm being deferred??" They didn't confirm it, but they told me to go see the nurse after I'm done being screened, and the nurse told me and she did so very kindly, compassionately, professionally and respectfully. I freshened up, but apparently I didn't do it well enough. I got deferred for 24 hrs. But the last two times I got deferred were both 8 week deferrals: one for coming down early from the machine due to no flow more than once in a month due to lack of hydration, and the last time was because the coffee I drank that morning caused me to no flow. The workers inside the center didn't tell me; I found out on their website. Even I called about the second deferral, the screener that accepted my call lied and told me it was for 30 days. No honey, IT WAS FOR 8 WEEKS (60 DAYS)! I kept my cool and accepted it, and waited it out. The other Plasma places I've been to have never been this passive aggressive as BioLife's workers are. The center I've done the most donations at is CSL, which I've been going to for 8 years, and they treat me like family. BioLife has a bunch of inconsiderate jerks working for them, and I've had enough of that. Do yourself a favor and avoid them at all cost. You'll be treated much more respectfully without deception at every other Plasma facility I've mentioned in this article especially CSL. read more

They need an appointment for everything, it's like they don't want to deal with donors, remove this policy, the center was empty when I came in and still wouldn't take me until the next appointment which was 3 week away. What a shame. read more

I hate that they have so many bad reviews but i've had nothing but great experiences here. I'm trying to get over my fear of needles and figured plasma donation was a great way while helping others. The facility is clean and the staff is kind and knowledgeable. Be sure to bring headphones, a book, and come very hydrated and a good meal in your stomach. read more

This people at this place are nice while you are in the facility. But that is the only good quality. Twice now I have had to do a SPE or Protein test done. The first time I had the test done I was told to wait for the results. Someone would call. After a week I called, I left a message for a nurse. No call back within 48 hours. I called again and again I left a message. No call back either. I go to the facility spoke with a nurse only to be told that the doctor only comes once a week. Unfortunately, she was on vacation. I was told then that the doctor only comes in on Thursdays. I had to wait until the next week. I received a call on Thursday evening saying I was cleared to donate again. I made an appointment for the next day, Friday. I went in on Friday to be told that the doctor failed to clear it out. Only the doctor could clear it out. Well. I had to wait another week everyone I spoke with was apologetic. But never once did I speak to the doctor. Before Christmas I had a voicemail that I needed to have another protein test done. The voicemail said I didn't need an appointment but I could have the test done until after 12/31/23. So I went in on 1/13/24 to give a blood sample. Again no call about the results after 7 days t started calling leaving messages questioning the results and for a nurse to call me back. No call back yet. I went in today only to be told the results were in and within limits to donate but again the "Doctor" left the results open not closed out. My recommendation is to go to another facility. If I could I would give zero stars but to post I need to give a rating. read more

Today did it for me Ms. Light skin gave me a hematoma and didn't give proper information on how to recover from what she did. Talked low and fast when I asked her what it was but attitudes be so big. Today I had a physical scheduled. I waited over an hour, finally left without getting it done because it was such bad service. While I was waiting 2 people called the police on this place. One because they didn't agree to give her her medical papers which she needed because she got concerning results in her last donation blood test. Another guy because they didn't agree to give him a card after donating which left him no way to receive his money. I understand there's a struggle when your under-staffed but this is no way to treat people that come in to donate ! read more

Critical information omitted for Type 2 diabetics TL;DR - BioLife hassles Type 2 diabetics The draw was higher-than-average payments for something I do annually anyway. Facility is nice and clean. Employees are polite and professional, although not knowledgeable. This review is of the corporate policy of Takeda BioLife Plasma Service, in blindsiding new donors with Type 2 diabetes into wasting their time and money. In 25 years of donating, only BioLife requires my doctor to complete a form before being eligible to donate, simply for being a Type 2 diabetic. I have to pay for my doctor to complete any forms, and it takes approximately 2 business days, which is the norm for most people. Then I have to drop off the paperwork or fax it in, then wait for their nurse to review it and decide whether I'm eligible or not, then call me to schedule my donation. So I'm seeing about an additional week before an actual donation IF I "pass". The form also asks for more information than just my "diabetic medical compliance" and A1c that the on-site nurse stated the form was required for. All of the medical history boxes were highlighted as required information, which ask about insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia, hypertension, heart disease, PCOS, sleep apnea, fatty liver disease, hypoglycemia, vascular disease, coronary artery disease, and renal function. What would my potential PCOS have to do with Type 2 diabetes for the purposes of donating plasma? My biggest peeve is that none of this is disclosed on the website, app, literature on-site, during the _30 minute_ medical questionnaire, or by any staff member before it is thrown on you halfway through the nurse's exam. When I asked why this was not disclosed anywhere, the on-site nurse said, "Because people would lie." So? You're asking about AIDS, venereal diseases, sexual activity for money, needle use with illegal drugs, and incarceration...but what people will lie about is diabetes? And no response as to why they cannot screen at the time of donation for whatever they need regarding diabetes? What would migrate into plasma that would cause a birth defect? Or render the plasma unusable to treat a sick patient? Nada, except, "You're the first person to have a problem with it." That is not good enough for a nurse at a plasma center, particularly for something that approximately a quarter of the US population deals with and that has never stopped a plasma donation for me in a quarter of a century of donating. read more

Let me get someone else to better assist you.' Maybe she's mad she has to work there so her attitude is shitty. Not sure. Not my problem. I won't recommend this place to anyone. You can't get an answer on the phone either. Called twice and waited over 5 mins each time. Same woman at the front told me they do answer. Sure, they answer! Then put you on hold for over 5mins. I never spoke to anyone. That's not answering the phone. If you need money that bad go somewhere else!There are options! Talecris Plasma Resources, CSL Plasma, or Octa Pharma Plasma are options all with 4+ stars. This place has 3... must be a reason, right!?Hope she finds work she likes more. I have no idea what's going on but when I was trying to leave out the door I was told to stop. I was informed that if I came in again and had an attitude with the staff upon check in, I would be deferred. And this was placed in my "file" for lack of a better word. My whole problem, I didn't say anything to anyone while I was checking in. I was definitely in a rush because I decided to come before I had to go to work, but I didn't have any commentary with anyone while they were taking vitals. The only thing I can say that didn't go smoothly was my temperature being taken because I placed my hands on the thermometer before the tech got it under my tongue. Wasn't done maliciously. I was told to calm down after having to reshow my arms, but I still hadn't said a word to anyone. I'm hoping that the person that informed me of my "attitude" when I left noted everything I told her when I was trying to leave. That wasn't right and it wasn't needed. Can't wait to get the name of the staff member that decided I had an attitude so I am able to defend myself. That wasn't right. I've never had any problems with anyone here. I will make a yelp account just to post this. I made my appointment for 3:45 and I pulled in and parked at 3:50. I immediately go inside and it says new donors to wait at the front desk so I am standing there and waiting. Finally, someone comes over to talk to me and says 'can I help you' and I say 'yeah I have an appointment at 3:45' and she starts going 'umm' while she looks at the time and I said 'I got here a few minutes ago' and then she says 'well we only have a 10 minute grace period so you need to reschedule your appointment'. That is insane and no way to run a business to make someone make a new appointment when no one was available to come speak to them for five minutes and act as though somehow that is their fault. I drove for 40 minutes in the heat and in traffic just for them to turn me away even though I was here on time just because no one came over to help me for five minutes. That is absolute bullshit. Especially since you have to prep for the donation. Making sure you're having a full meal 2 to 3 hours before hand, drinking extra water, bringing all of the things that you need for your donation. The two ladies who checked me in were very nice, but the guy who was checking my veins was very rude. He never said a word to me until he told me my veins were too small and I can't do it. And walked away. I also went in with my sister and after waiting for an hour and a half we went in to ask them how long. " it should be about an hour and a half" then we informed them she has been here since a certain time and she said "yeh so about 2-3 hours". I wouldn't recommend. read more

Horrible services. Most of the workers here are extremely rude or just unmotivated to work. If you come in the morning, you'll get a lot of workers with attitudes and doesn't try to move people along. If you come at night, you'll have workers complaining about wanting to go home or complain about people coming in. At the end of the day, this is YOUR JOB! You get paid for being here. I'm not saying all the staff, but a good bit of them are unprofessional and act as if they don't wanna be there. I never see the manager and if I do, they don't motivate them at all to work harder. This place is awful. The assistant manager Jasmine is rude and incompetent. She should find a new job. Obviously has no customer service skills whatsoever. I was told I couldn't donate because my screen came up Spanish, which was not my fault. Then I stepped into the corridor to leave, turned around, and went back in to try to do it in Spanish. She then said I had to leave because I stepped outside. she easily could've let me donate, but decided being a bitch was more important. I'll never go to this shithole again! My biggest concern is that I've noticed a lot of the time the employees are not changing their gloves between contact with donors. The employees wear the gloves constantly and I've seen and also personally experienced an employee checking blood levels and administering needles and they did not change their gloves. I could careless about manners. This issue is putting donators at risk for contracting HIV, Hepatitis and other viruses. The employees and managers are not following OSHA guidelines. read more

I had an appt for 12 pm. I never got moved back to the actual donation area until 12:50 ish. A young phlebotomist begin to check my veins a little after 1. I've donated several times before with no issue! She seemed very unsure of herself but took the chance to stick me anyway. She put the needle in my arm and moved it around with no luck. She left the needle in my arm and called someone else. At this point, my vein was blown. They wanted to do the other arm but I requested someone else who was immediately successful. I didn't get out of there until almost 2pm. Why have an appt schedule and control it in a manner that sets everyone up for failure? Why not have proper staffing to accommodate the schedule you set OR set the schedule based on staffing availability. Additionally, had the health department gone in there, this place would have been shut down!!! People were everywhere and they were certainly NOT 6 feet apart. I submitted a customer service notification in their website. This is the response I received from management: "I do apologize for you bad experience. Due to Covid a lot of business have a shortage of employees due to Covid related reasons and we are not an exception. We as a business are doing the best we can to accommodate donors who would like to donate because we are in need of the plasma. Due to everything going on around us you can more than likely expect a wait. Some days will be better than others. Until things get better around us we will continue to the best we can and hopefully everything will improve soon so that everyone will have a better experience." 1) grammar 2) no concern for all of the things I pointed out as opportunities to improve 3) don't blame COVID when you are literally shoving people in there to make your numbers. 4) no respect / concern for the people donating I had one last donation last night. Different person! Vein swelled instantly upon insertion of the needle, which means it was compromised. Developed a significant bump. Enough the the phlebotomist was worried enough to stand there and keep watching. After getting 300+ units of blood, decided I needed to be unhooked. Then, couldn't give me back 1/2 of the saline bc my arm felt like it was on fire. Both arms now have blown veins and significant bruises with pain. Donated blood recently and found out I was AB+ which is universal for plasma and platelets. Immediately set up an appointment to donate. Unfortunately had to reschedule so I called directly to do so. Lady was completely bland, dismissive and ultimately rude while I was trying to get information since I've never donated plasma. Make no mistake, this is a BUSINESS, and from this experience I can certainly tell I was nothing but numbered cattle with liquid money. Yes, I will donate but no, it will never be here. read more

I saw a staff drop something on the floor, pick it up and then continue to stick a patient wearing those same gloves she used on the floor Thats a HUGE red flag. They're often understaffed and spend too much time yucking it up that you can find yourself sitting in the chair for 20 minutes waiting to get stuck and 20 mins with a painful needle in your arm waiting to be unstuck after donation..
