Recommend visiting a different derm. office if possible. If you go here do not see a P.A. I did not feel fully educated on my condition. After learning of my diagnosis I did more research & learned I was told the bare minimum. I was even prescribed a different medication. Every single article and study I read recommend the same meds. I did my own research on what they recommended & I understand why others would suggest cream that turn over skin cells. Called back to ask for that cream and was told I needed to come back in the office. For one of the most commonly prescribed skin creams by dermatologists. I swear you would have thought they were prescribing a controlled narcotic. They forgot about me! I checked in about 15 minutes early for my appointment since this was my 1st visit. I'm not sure if it was because it was near lunch time or what how I was forgotten about. After waiting for 30 minutes with no updates, I went back to the desk to get an update. 2nd Front desk staff I encountered was rude and acted like I was bothering her. She casually told me staff were at lunch. Why schedule my appointment while closed for lunch? She quickly realized she was incorrect, as my person was running behind. I was there for almost an hour before I was pulled back. Another patient who showed up for their appointment for the same person my appointment was with, made a fuss in the lobby and tried to get her to take her over me. I had to say that I've been waiting for almost an hour by now. So, of course we get into the treatment room and I'm quickly glanced over as I described what I would like to be treated. My technician apologized and said she couldn't service me today and do a consult only due to overlooking my appointment on the schedule. I spent more time booking the appointment to return than anything. It was very rushed and I didn't get to ask all of my questions. I asked about the fee I paid after arriving. She didn't want to let what I paid carry over to my next appointment. I felt defeated especially since this technician comes HIGHLY recommended. The check out lady apologized and refunded me since I waited for not having a proper consult or visit. She was so kind and empathetic. If you absolutely have to go see a Dermatologist this will do, but please consider other options. My first experience was years ago with a male derm that left my back scarred from unnecessary mole removal without first talking me or my parents through our options (I was a minor and they were not in the room). This was at the 7th st location. My second more recent experience was at the university location. Everything was fine and routine in the beginning, addressed some issues, was given regimen and prescriptions--all great, until time for refill. It is currently Oct. 2025, my pharmacy reached out in Jul/Aug for a shampoo refill. Mind you, the PA had assured me this type of prescription would just need to be called in, I'd only have to come in if something came up. Well since then Charlotte Derm as an entity or her specific team (not sure which is responsible) has not contacted the pharmacy (which Its now my responsibility to contact my care team), or have called back to any of over several voicemails I've left asking for the prescription to be filled. Every time I reach an operator, I get sent to leave a message..which as I stated above, NONE have been returned. I am about to give birth and this is just one more stressor I do not need. Melissa Booth is a magic maker! My daughter received a facial at an expensive spa at Southpark and soon had a bacterial infection on her face that spread like wildfire. We tried everything- even went to her prior dermatologist at Atrium who misdiagnosed her as hormonal acne, but I knew that was off because what was on her face didn't look like acne. Heard about Melissa Booth from 2 friends and called to get an appointment and they quickly got us in- I'm sure in heart the desperation in my voice because my daughter wouldn't leave the house- it was so horrific. Catherine Pointon must work out of multiple offices as the one I visited for years and that my husband went to was called "Dermatology Practices of the Carolinas". Her reviews began as I said in the 4 - 5 star rating group & dropped over time for legitimate reasons (i.e., she AWAYS ran very late, had her PA see you & then flew through the door with her mini "eye scope" 45 mins. later after an hour in the main waiting room, do a very quick check & fly back out the door. I went for my appointment today at the E 7th Street office. I was told it was in Matthews. Matthews? I was never told when I scheduled the appointment that it was in Matthews. I scheduled the appointment at my last appointment. In the texts for the appointment, there was no mention of Matthews. Evidently, you can be scheduled for any place where your provider works. I have never heard of such a policy. You have to request E 7th Street when you schedule an appointment. I would like to have been told that. I live in Optimist Park. Why would I want to go to Matthews? This does not make any sense. I should add this policy is not good for the environment. read more

Dr. Altman has been my dermatologist for 10+ years mainly prescreening for skin cancer. I recently had a skin condition in which I thought I could trust MEMD a online medical firm. I thought that it was being handled correctly but my condition started to worsen to the point I became frightened and my family members assured me that I was not being treated correctly. I was at the breaking point were I could barely walk or use my hands. Luckily for me I went back to Dr. Altman, he quickly diagnosed my condition and prescribed the proper treatment for me to recover. It will be sometime before I will be healed completely but that is due to my ignorance of using an online medical firm. We waited over a month to get in and see Michael A. Asbury, PA-C, because he was referred to us as a provider that specializes in African American hair. My daughter is 12 years old and having issues with her scalp. PA Asbury was professional, welcoming and made us feel comfortable. He's very thorough in explaining the plan of care and he offers insight to other treatment modalities. We will definitely return for a follow up visit. My daughter is excited and I'm relieved that he helped us, after going through other providers that were not familiar with treating African American hair. His assistant Cassandra was great as well!! Used wrong type of stitches, I got an infection from a mole removal in her office in spite of proper aftercare on my part, and the mole biopsies she did left me with partial moles plus large scars. I'm so disappointed in the resulting aesthetics, I wouldn't even go back there to have them try and fix anything. read more

This firm's lack of transparency surrounding the billing process is completely unacceptable. Be forewarned; your bill may be considerably higher than your initial quote. On my first (and only) visit, I directly asked the doctor about the fees associated with a routine procedure. Naturally, I assumed that the doctors at this facility are familiar with the costs associated with a procedure that they perform (presumably) daily. Based on the numbers provided, I consented. Unfortunately, when I received my bill, I was surprised to see a considerably higher figure. These issues surrounding my bill were further compounded by the administrative support team's complete lack of empathy or willingness to rectify the situation. Made an appt on Tues and asked for first available since I had a minor issue and found them through my insurance website - was able to get an appoint the following Friday. Check in was easy and they seem very organized , I had maybe a 10 min wait from the time I entered until I was called back (my appt was 8:30am). I saw Michael Anthony , I believe he is one of the PA's . He was pretty thorough and allowed me to ask questions and even showed me some pictures on the computer of different conditions. As the other yelper said it is kinda hard to find, just go all the way to back of the office complex and you will see a sign for the building number. Overall a good visit I will be returning if I have any other dermatology needs. read more

Part 1 Prior to my arrival at the 7th street location, I had never heard of Dr. Slaughter. Remember, I had never heard of him, never seen him before, never had any previous interaction with him. Since I study the law of attraction and seldom have negative things occur in my life, if they do, I immediately examine my expectations, fears, desires, etc. to ensure that I wasn't holding vibrational negativity. In this instance, I was in good spirits, as it had been 33 days since I was injured. I had desired a dermatology for a long time, but was required to been seen by Concentra since it was a workman's' comp claim. Since Charlotte Dermatology didn't accept workman's comp, I didn't care. I just wanted to be seen by a professional in the study of skin. I received 7 stitches from the work injury on my face. I had been given the run around by Concentra doctors and had seen more than a few of them, who had no idea how to treat or remove the stitches. I was even referred back to the emergency room that had stitched me up, to have them removed. Therefore, I was happy to have the opportunity to be seen by a skin specialist and board certified professional. I was giddy with excitement. The main question I had for the doctor, which I had already shared with the nurse who I saw enter the info into the computer, was to ensure that no sutures were left in. They were small microscopic stiches that doctors had expressed that they didn't know how the stiches were sewn in and had only removed half of them, instructing me to return later to have the rest removed. Thus, I was seeking confirmation that all was clear. Even the office manager and Dr. Hazem M. El-Gamal, that later spoke with me acknowledged that the area was red & more swollen than the other side. This is proof that I wasn't overreacting or imaging anything. Anyone would wonder why half of the stitches healed up, but the side where there was pus, is still red and swollen. Dermatologist Gary Bryon Slaughter failed as a doctor in the following areas: * Quality of care * He never examined my skin * He showed absolute disregard for me as a person and a patient * Incompetence * Failure to meet standards of care * Communication issues such as yelling, rudeness, redundancy * Poor bedside manner * He never asked me about the accident * He never asked how I was feeling * He never turned on the light to look at my skin * He never touched my skin to observe it. * He stood over me yelling & repeating himself as if he didn't have good sense * He was very condescending * He was very dismissive * He never answered any of my questions and he lied on the release paperwork * He was in the room less than 5 minutes, but was finished with me and I didn't even know it. As he was leaving, I asked whether he was going to confirm that no sutures were under the skin. I was shocked that he hadn't addressed what I had verbally stated to him and the nurse. He looked irritated and said with sarcasm, "I can get the magnifying glass if you like." After stating that he was going to give me two creams, I asked about them, but he cut me off. He said it would be on the paperwork, but the questions I attempted to ask, is not on the paperwork. So why did he lie? Why was he so anxious to get rid of me, when he was in the room less than 5 minutes? It would have only taken the lying joker a few minutes to answer some basic questions any patient would have. He said it as if he didn't really want to do it, but was doing it as a favor. I was shocked that the moron didn't have one in his pocket, or at least in a drawer that he could grab. Out of all the doctors I had seen in the past 33 days, he was the only joker that did not have a magnifying glass with him as he entered the room. We have to assume that he was familiar with my issue, as all doctors review what the nurse has typed in and remember, he never asked me even one question about my injury or my concerns. As he returned to the room, he was already running his ugly mouth. He told me that he is going to say the same thing and give me the same answer that he gave me before he left the room. What? I was in shock again. What answer? HE had never ever addressed my concern about verifying that no stitches were left under the skin. I was offended that he was lying and pretending as if we had had some type of conversation that never took place. I asked when did he tell me that. He continued to talk over me without pausing, and repeated himself at least 6 times. He was irate, impatient and irritable. He wasn't interested in any response to the lies coming out of his mouth. Earlier he had accused me 2 times that I am inpatient and I want something to happen over night and he made a joke about the injury and how no one has it on tape to know exactly how it happened, etc. That is a lie, because the incident was caught on tape. read more

The front desk is very friendly. The doctor seemed very hurried, and when I expressed disappointment in my diagnosis, the doctor said I should be happy because he solved it, it was just incurable. I had a biopsy done, and they had the nurse call me with the results. After I started asking her questions, she got the doctor who told me the exact opposite of what the nurse had been telling me and that the results weren't accurate because the sample size was too small. What if I had never asked questions and ended up talking to him? Very frustrating. read more

I assumed the doctor would look at it and have me return, but I was over the moon that it was taken care of on the spot. Dr. Boothe was so pleasant and informative and I was in and out quickly. I've visited both the Matthews and Charlotte location. The staff was very friendly and proficient. Dr. Altman has a great bedside manner and sense of humor. They really go out of their way to make sure each patient is served. I had a minor pharmacy snafu and they sent to Charlotte from Matthews for my medicine so that I could receive it that day. I have pretty severe psoriasis, but never expected that level of care. I've also tried microneedling at their Charlotte location. The price is great and I was very impressed with the time she took to explain the procedure, allow for numbing and she covered every speck of my face & 1/2 of my neck! Overall, I love this practice and fail to understand why anyone would give less than 5 stars based on my experience. Dr.Ronald Rodriguez was great! He answered all my questions. I went here due to my problematic acne skin and he was very caring and concerned about my problems. He explained to me what was the cause of my acne and he prescribed me two types of medicine. He helped me get it at a reasonable cost bc I don't have insurance. The nurses were very sweet also. Went here a few weeks ago for my yearly (happened last 3 years ago...ha) skin scan. Large comfortable waiting area with TV's, though didn't wait long. Had a lot of questions and the Doctor was very helpful. Thorough and informative. Nurses followed up sooner than expected on the results. Place is a little tricky to find. If you're using mapquest or the map app, it's a little off, so make sure you go through the Firefighter Rd. intersection (coming from Uptown area) and take the next right into the complex...2630 building is all the way in the back. read more

This office is just amazing. I scheduled my appointment with them because Piedmont Plastic Surgery & Dermatology in Costwald was extremely rude and disrespectful. I really appreciate how they take the time to pronounce your first and last name. I don't have a name like Smith, which I don't know who does anymore. So people will call everyone by their last name and then call me by my first name because they do not want to pronounce my last name. I find this very disrespectful. I'd rather you try and mess my name up, rather than call me by my first name. This was not the case with this office. When you walked into this office everyone was smiling and just very friendly. In my 15+ years as an adult, this had to be the worst doctor's visit I have experienced. I was a first time patient with Dr. Gary Slaughter at Charlotte Dermatology. My appointment was at 3:30pm. I finally saw Dr. Slaughter at 4pm. First, the doctor's assistant warned me to let her know everything I would want Dr. Slaughter to look at or he would be upset. I told her of three concerns. When Dr. Slaughter arrived, he briefly (less than 10 seconds) turned on the overhead light, turned the light off and suggested two medications for me to "get rid of the bumps"...I guess "bumps" is the technical term. He did not examine me, he did not ask me about my medical history, my diet, my environment...nothing! When I asked him how one of the medications worked, his answer was...and I quote... "I don't know. They don't teach us that in medical school". SERIOUSLY!!! Shouldn't doctors have at least some knowledge of the medications they prescribe? To be fair, medical school probably does not teach students about how medications work, but I would expect a doctor, even a doctor of dermatology, to have some idea of how a medication addresses an issue. And how would he know what medication worked best for me if he didn't even examine me to determine the real cause of the problem. After, spending less than 5 minutes with me (as a new patient) he recommended that I come back in about a month. For what!!? I suppose additional revenue for the practice and another sub-par doctor's visit with no benefit for the patient. Judging by his lack of attention to detail and due diligence, I am fairly certain that he did not review my new patient questionnaire. He certainly did not review it with me. Hopefully, I am not allergic to the prescriptions. I wrote this review in hopes that someone will avoid a similar experience. I wish that I had read reviews on Dr. Slaughter before making an appointment with him. I do not know if the other dermatologists in the practice are as bad, but I wouldn't chance it. read more
