Today was the most disappointing visit. I donated plasma here several years ago and stopped because I suffered a hematoma that took weeks to heal. I recently decided to give it another try. I donated twice last weeki, which was somewhat uneventful. 1st visit was a reevaluation and took about 2 hours. The 2nd visit only took about an hour since it was not as busy and they seemed fully staffed. They have supposedly gone to "Appointments Only as per the website but no one asked when that appointment was and just directed me to the computer questionaire. Once you've completed that, you go to the line to get your finger pricked and blood tested. If all is well you head to the donation quadrant. This location has 8 color coded sections. You take a vacant lounge chair and await the attendant (phlebotomist?) to hook you up. This is the crucial part. Hopefully the attendant is successful in finding and puncturing a good vein. Today for me that was NOT THE CASE. I be sure to eat high protein and hydrate the evening before and hours prior to the donation. The young girl looked at my left arm and then my right and decided to try the right. Well, she missed and told me I got a hematoma, so she would go back to the left arm. Again not a good jab and kept moving the needle (which is a pretty big guage and uncomfortable) and she eventually got the donation flowing after a very uncomfortable few minutes of her searching. I knew things were not going well as I started watching other doners come and go and I wasn't progressing. They were what seemed very busy and short staffed, so most of the 2 hours I was there, there wasn't an attendant in the cubicle supervising the 8 doners. The machines ding and a light appears if the donation stalls and for at least 20 minutes no one noticed mine dinging until I finally spoke up. She went to get a supervisor who inspected and wiggled the already sore area of the the donation needle. So, apparently since I had been there over 45 minutes and just barely given enough of my full donation they decided to unhook me but graciously decided to still compensate me for my almost complete donation. When I voiced my displeasure of my experience the young man just apologized. I got up to leave very dissatisfied and not sure how to handle the fact that I felt unappreciated and both my arms sore, one arm with a cold pack on the hematoma and the donation arm bruised and sore. Tonight, hours after the donation this morning I'm still unsure that I want to return to continue to donate. I will definitely have to let my arms heal before contemplating resuming what I normally consider a worthwhile use of my time donating my plasma. The financial incentives are what prompts most people to donate but plasma is much needed and a worthwhile reason but sadly, I'm not feeling very positive about the donation process I experienced today. read more

The customer service is becoming a major disappointment. I've telephone the facility several times for my test results and keeping getting to voice mail!!. I've left messages before and not one return call!! This is an inconvenience for me because I'm riding the bus. URGENT!!! "DO NOT COME HERE!!! I thought I would make extra money for Christmas on my day off so came to this location. They do not change their gloves, even if you ask them kindly after they assist other donors. I asked a lady with a hijab to change her gloves before she attended to me. She yelled and said she was not going to. She took me off guard. I thought why is she yelling? I asked her kindly again asking to please change them, but she continued to refuse. I explained to her that my concern was that blood can transmit disease-like aids, and it is important to use clean gloves when working with blood and taking care of multiple donors. However, she became angry and yelled at me, refusing to change the gloves. She looked at me with so much hate. She then told me to go back to the end of the line. I was in disbelief and shocked at her behavior. She then said I'm not dealing with you!!! She called a young man and asked him to assist me instead. However, he didn't listen ignored my concerns, and sided with her. He said it was not in the policy to change them even if a donor asked, In the end, I left feeling very disappointed, frustrated, and concerned for other donors. I want to warn other donors that this facility may not take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety. I will not be returning to this location and encourage others to consider their options carefully before donating here." Now that I'm here at home writing the review I believe she might have been discriminated against me because I'm a Christian. I was wearing a big cross on my cap and she was wearing a hijab. I will be praying for her. I forgive her because she is blind to her actions. Christians be aware of hatred of us here in the United States. She needs to be written up for failing to go through health protection procedures to protect donors and remind her she needs to treat and speak to donors professionally. 7555 Northwest Loop 410 #103, San Antonio, TX 78245. So here is a question. Why don't they have an emergency generator for power outages? The power went out. People were still hooked up. Many with blood still in the bowl. There was no communication on what was going on. 911 had to be called because a woman got sick while sitting there hooked up. Puking and screaming. Probably from low blood sugar due to no return. You should have a generator to at least do returns on the people that need them. Instead, we get treated to 0 communication, flashing overhead lights, a bag of goldfish, water and a 2 month deferral. Irresponsible handling all around. Sending people out with blood loss and and inability to donate and get paid for 2 months because you can't provide a generator to responsibly handle an emergency and get fluids back to people. 0 communication. They run a promo every week where when you donate your first time of the week (you can only donate two times within seven days), you get a small payment (around $40) and when you come for the second time, that is a larger payment of around $100. THREE WEEKS IN A ROW, when I went for the second time, there was something magically wrong to where I was ineligible...blood pressure or heart rate. If they have people continuing to do this, they are constantly paying donors peanuts after they get through their first time donor promo (around $700 paid out each week throughout the month). I am in great shape, do not smoke and I work out. This is a money grab to pay out as little as possible. Don't fall for it. Tried this place because of a promo they had but have to say the experience has been disappointing. The staff is very young and unprofessional. Concerning for a medically related business. They only do donations by appt. however expect to wait 3 plus hours even with an appt. The actual donation takes about an hour however getting to that point takes a good 2 hours of standing in line for pre testing. I've been 3 times to donate and my arm is very bruised. The very first donation was awful. The young girl put the needle in and then started fishing for my vein. It's been 2 weeks and my arm and vein are still purple. Overall, not a good experience. They really need a staff manager and to establish better behavior expectations for their employees. Lots of immature and unprofessional convos happening in earshot of clients. They also need to get a better appt. process. I get they overbook as people won't show but for those that do go, 3 hours for a donation is ridiculous and not respectful of your clients time. read more

The south new braunfels Avenue location I'm honestly disgusted by how unprofessional the staff were. Instead of doing their jobs, they were too busy flirting with each other and even with donors. I hade a friend recommend them to me. She split the referral fee with me which was nice. I committed to 8 weeks for two visits a week for $750. There are higher compensations. It really helped me pay bills now that I'm a retired teacher. Take iron pills and make sure to eat proteins. read more

Absolutely awful with timing and questions. They will not let you donate if you have sleep apnea, want you to have an appointment with your dr to fill an approval sheet they give you, promise that when you come in with said sheets signed for approval you can donate immediately, when I came in today they said I had to return on Tuesday of next week for THEIR doctor to approve donation. The biggest waste of my time and nonsense. The whole reason I came to this stupid clinic was for their scheduled appointments to donate unlike octapharma, but they seem to love wasting people's time and discourage donations. Even with apnea I told them I have a cpap machine. It shouldn't matter when donating plasma since you shouldn't be asleep anyways when donating. Absolutely trash service. When you come back you have to do all the steps over again since you have to book A WHOLE NEW APPOINTMENT WITH PHYSICAL! I thought this place was supposed to be organized and on a set schedule but is a complete mess and discouraging me to donate plasma at such a facility. I have donated to another facility and gave this one a try for the initial promotion, which would help with extra money for the holiday. This one is not run well at all compared to the "Octa.."I donated before. It is a long process, finally getting to the chair and confusing in the initial process. You have to answer questions at a qiosk, vs. an app on the phone. Some of the questions are at the top, but when you go all the way down, with their lists, it has a different question at the end. Then, answering that, it is the wrong response to the first question, which, after a wait in line to get screened, they tell you to go to the nurse to clarify the answer. 30-minute wait, then back in the screening line. I can overlook that, BUT the technicians I noticed, SEVERAL of them, did NOT change their gloves in between donors in the screening process! They are drawing a sample of blood from the previous donor. I had to ask two different times for them to change their gloves, but I noticed other donors not asking. We shouldn't have to ask, and needs to be reported, health risk as far as I am concerned.. unthinkable for a professional facility handling blood samples. The facility front is dirty. The bathrooms are filthy. LITERALLY, they are worse than a gas station bathroom. There are three individual, shared bathrooms for male and female opposite of waiting for the nurses. Blood was running down one of the toilets, and floors sink, and toilets were filthy. The automatic sink water did not work. I asked about the condition of the bathroom, and was told the staff "rotates" to clean them! NOT a dedicated professional cleaning service! That includes front and nurse staff responsible for cleaning. Obsurd! The other facility is immaculate and has a full-time person making sure restrooms (separate his and hers), along with the entire facility, are sanitary. The giving stations are individualized by color coding, so the stations are monitored closer with staff. They are friendly and no problem donating once the process has started. I would consider another place to donate with the sanitation situation, not changing gloves and long process even worth appointments. I give pretty fast (30 minutes), but the entire time there can be 1.5-2 hours. read more

They're really nice here and the pay is somewhat more than the last place I was donating. Only thing is sometimes the line to get your vitals checked is too long because they only have two receptionists, three if your lucky, four and it's a miracle. Plus they used to pay $140 a week and now they reduced it to $130 a week. If they're gonna continue lowering pay, I just might as well go back to the old place. Plus the whole process here is about 2 hours so I'm not driving across town if they start paying me like the other place did. Other than that, the staff is sweet. read more

Online they say an appointment should take anywhere from 45 mins to an hour, I have been waiting for my appointment for an hour, to sit for another hour to donate. This is rediculous, I understand being busy but obviously you're not too busy to be standing around talking to coworkers who aren't on the clock. If you can't handle the amount of appointments in a timely manner adjust your appointment amounts. I drove 25 mins to get here between shifts. Ridiculously understaffed and over crowded - Appointments for the entire weekend are impossible to get unless you book it a week before. They are the only BioLife that never has same day appointments open. If you want to book for Thursday , you have to make the appointment by Monday. Which is garbage because some people have very tight schedules that you don't know when you'll be free until the last minute and when you find out and try to book an appointment- sorry none available till next week! Staff here is not the best. Facility isn't that clean as well. If it wasn't the only BioLife Plasma Services nearby, I'd take my time elsewhere. The staff here can be rude and they feel entitled. My scheduled time can be at 1 PM, but I won't be starting until well into 2-230 PM just because how inefficient the staff are. I would not recommending coming to this BioLife location for donations. I have not been to any of their other locations so I can only share my experience for this one. Starting off I want to say that the staff I have had interactions with have always been pleasant and when needed, helpful. However, my donation experience has not always been the best. I'm not sure how often each section is supervised to check in their staff but myself as well as two friends i've recommended have recently experienced their "bowl" which collects your blood "cracking or overflowing" which results in a no flow error in the machine. When it happened to me I just assumed it was a slip up by whoever reset it for the next donor. Unfortunately two friends I have referred here have experienced this same EXACT issue this week also. It's very unfortunate because when dealing with so many people's bodily fluids it makes me wonder about the quality checks, exposure, sanitation etc. Not sure if staff are not being relieved enough for breaks or not receiving enough support that these things are happening or if it genuinely is a problem with their machines but I will say I will not be returning to donate... Please do diligent research if considering donating and if you donate to supplement lost income, find somewhere else as some suspect these incidents are to avoid paying donors for their time... read more

If I could give a negative star rating I 100% would with no hesitation. Today was my second time ever donating plasma at this location. First time I went, when I actually got a bed to start the donating process it wasn't bad at all. Today on the other hand, was a completely different experience. I was on the bed for 10-15 minutes before anyone said a word to me. The lady that stuck me with a needle clearly didn't know what she was doing. She put the needle in completely crooked, it hurt, and made my arm swell up. I had tried to get her attention and tell her but she didn't hear me I'm assuming so I said it a little louder to get her attention. When she came over she tried to adjust the needle by removing the tape and taking part of the needle out. At this point she went to go get another employee and they noticed right away something was wrong. I told her it didn't feel right and she said she knows. A few more employees came up to me and eventually I was told they can no longer continue the donating process, messed my arm up super bad to the point I went to the doctors after to make sure it wasn't anything serious! Left with bruising, swollen and tender arm and was only paid $20 when I was supposed to be receiving, $100! I asked the lady's that came and removed my needle to the nurse that brought me into her office, after if I was still going to receive full pay and they all told me yes. read more

This center takes FOREVER... it's my 4th time donating here and they said it will take about an hour once you get past your first donation... well every time since then it has taken 3-4 hours. The first 3 being waiting. They never have enough nurses doing vitals, and you sit and wait in the bed for about an hour every time before you even start pumping our plasma. Once you're finished donating you sit there for about 30 min before anyone discharges you. It is a clean facility, but the nurses are not very kind, the physical nurses are rude to both my boyfriend and myself. I'll start donating at a different facility. read more

Went here for my 1st time last week while was on vacation...it was ok. I donate regularly in Stevens Point, Wisconsin and that facility is bigger, cleaner and staffed properly. However, San Antonio I believe has newer machines that do not take up a technicians time for every air bubble. I was there at 6:30 am so I didn't wait long at all. I don't know what happened to this location. My appointment today for physicals with donation is at 3:30 pm. I arrived on time, literally 3:25 pm and I'm still waiting for my exams it's now 5:34 pm. This is unacceptable. It was not like this before at this location. The front desk is very extremely disorganized and there's always a breakdown in communication. Other staff have no clue what other staff are doing or needs to do. So frustrated but in have no choice but to wait since I'm already here. read more

There service is great and there appointments scheduling is easier and convenient. Just that there pay differs from week to week. They are not consistent and they paying less than others. If you want fast friendly service this the place to go. But if you more money for your plasm go elsewhere. Just an example. A different center pays $35 first visit of the week and $75 second visit if the week. Plus on your 6,7 & 8 you get an additional $50 bonus You pay $20 first visit and $60 on second visit. Your pay rate may change next week and you only give a $40 bonus on your 8th donation only. If you compare pay rates. It's a no brainier where to go. I made an interview for my initial physical at 5:50 pm. I get here on time prepped. I was asked by a nurse named Juan what I ate I told him I ate lunchables which consisted of almonds. Cranberries, apples and earlier I had other lunchable made up of turkey slices, cheese, cracker and fruits. He said I would need to eat a large full meal before coming in. I explained I have donated before alot at octapharma and came in for their deal. When I asked him for his name he said I could talk to his manager and she said whatever the nurse says goes. She asked me what I ate throughout the day, I told her a breakfast taco and lunch ables starting at 230 pm. He then said, that is not what she said. And was asked to go to restaurants and eat something and come back. I rescheduled. I sometimes wonder if they treat everyone like uneducated idiots. Seriously. read more

I have missed 6 donations due to a lab draw and still awaiting results. The company practically forced me into "ineligible to donate" even though I am perfectly healthy. They have lied on medical documents to determine the status of my donation. I would not recommend this company if you have allergies to anything, they will force it into a "possible anaphylaxis" box even if you have never been anaphylactic in your life.
