I donated at the location on Fredericksburg. Jesse on the doner floor was wonderful and made the experience comfortable.

Today was the most disappointing visit. I donated plasma here several years ago and stopped…read morebecause I suffered a hematoma that took weeks to heal. I recently decided to give it another try. I donated twice last weeki, which was somewhat uneventful. 1st visit was a reevaluation and took about 2 hours. The 2nd visit only took about an hour since it was not as busy and they seemed fully staffed. They have supposedly gone to "Appointments Only as per the website but no one asked when that appointment was and just directed me to the computer questionaire. Once you've completed that, you go to the line to get your finger pricked and blood tested. If all is well you head to the donation quadrant. This location has 8 color coded sections. You take a vacant lounge chair and await the attendant (phlebotomist?) to hook you up. This is the crucial part. Hopefully the attendant is successful in finding and puncturing a good vein. Today for me that was NOT THE CASE. I be sure to eat high protein and hydrate the evening before and hours prior to the donation. The young girl looked at my left arm and then my right and decided to try the right. Well, she missed and told me I got a hematoma, so she would go back to the left arm. Again not a good jab and kept moving the needle (which is a pretty big guage and uncomfortable) and she eventually got the donation flowing after a very uncomfortable few minutes of her searching. I knew things were not going well as I started watching other doners come and go and I wasn't progressing. They were what seemed very busy and short staffed, so most of the 2 hours I was there, there wasn't an attendant in the cubicle supervising the 8 doners. The machines ding and a light appears if the donation stalls and for at least 20 minutes no one noticed mine dinging until I finally spoke up. She went to get a supervisor who inspected and wiggled the already sore area of the the donation needle. So, apparently since I had been there over 45 minutes and just barely given enough of my full donation they decided to unhook me but graciously decided to still compensate me for my almost complete donation. When I voiced my displeasure of my experience the young man just apologized. I got up to leave very dissatisfied and not sure how to handle the fact that I felt unappreciated and both my arms sore, one arm with a cold pack on the hematoma and the donation arm bruised and sore. Tonight, hours after the donation this morning I'm still unsure that I want to return to continue to donate. I will definitely have to let my arms heal before contemplating resuming what I normally consider a worthwhile use of my time donating my plasma. The financial incentives are what prompts most people to donate but plasma is much needed and a worthwhile reason but sadly, I'm not feeling very positive about the donation process I experienced today.

Since no pictures are allowed inside, I couldn't post any, and i forgot to get one from outside…read more This is a spacious center to accommodate the high volume of donors. The setup typically runs quickly. However, sometimes they send screener home with a long line still, so that extends the process at times. If you're a regular donor you'll benefitfrom the higher pay, however if you don't donate for a break of 30-35 days you will be dropped on levels, which happened to be during the Thanksgiving holiday time. I went to donate and the line was wrapped back to the door and not wanting to be there until 9pm or later I left, I then had a sample taken and didn't meet the requirements to donate so that delayed my donations as well. After getting busy with work, I finally had an opportunity to go in and have labs done again to be eligible but had to wait another week for the results, which pushed me beyond the apparent grace period to get dropped "donor level". When I went to donate afer a short period of not going I learned I was bumped down to level 1 ($40/donation) which had I known I would have just jumped to another center and reaped the rewards for being a new donor, and let them profiteven greater by cashing in on my donations. I think it would be more fair to stop the day count from dropping levels. Overall, this location is good and speedy as long as they have the staff available. Just beware of you ever treasure a short break from donating, you will be penalized with a reduction in pay for your donations until you work your way back up the level which fortunately is quick to do, but still a lot less than when you donate twice a week religiously.

I finally get fed up as my sample has made no progress and I've been in here WAY longer than I should, but anytime machine stops they just half ass it and keep it moving which is fine if it's not your fucking 10th time fixing the machine. i tell them to just stop It I'm clearly wasting my time and they should clearly know that something's up I mean I was here just on Wednesday prior and machine didn't stop once. once I instruct to stop as my blood is now leaking all over my arm, the chair, and my shirk they tell me well it's only going to be $10. bitch first of all i wouldn't be irritated if you knew how to do your fucking job. Another thing is, I should be paid my full amount I sat there for the full time it's not my fault ur incompetent workers are fucking up because my visit prior was flawless And easy. PIECES OF SHIT

Plan on your first time stay about 3 hours. You check in, then ask you to sit and wait, then they…read morecall you up and ask you your basic questions, have a current ID and a bill to show proof of address. Then they ask you more questions. Then you sit and wait for nurse. Nurse will take you to the back for your physical. She asked me to get on the exam table, which is high for me because I'm short. No stool, no help. They want to see if you can get up there. They cannot help you. Lol, I know I looked hilarious trying to get up there. Oh and remember to have your promo code if you have one. Fortunately the nurse helped me, because I had no idea I needed one and I didn't see it, but I knew about it. The nurse will give you an envelope that has your debit card and instructions. Don't lose the instructions, believe me you will need them. Then when you're done there, you stand in a line with about 10 people in front of you. The medical staff will call you up where they get your weight, blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and check your iron. If you blood pressure, heart rate are abnormal they will allow you to sit and wait for 7-15 min and try it again, like I did. Then they will call you back and make sure you give them a different arm. They always ask you what arm and what finger you want to be pricked. My heart rate was 115, then went down to 101, failed, you get sent home. You could back the next day as a "walk in". Whoa, you mean if you have an appt you have to wait, can you imagine a walk in? Anyway, the trick, don't drink coffee the day of your appt, this will inhibit your iron from being absorbed, thick will cause your iron to be low. When they do your blood pressure make sure your feet are on the foot rest and not dangling, and sit back and relax, otherwise, it will cause your BP or heart to be high. Take a blanket, because it's cold, not a jacket because you're gonna have to take it out anyway when they test you and stick you. Take your own hand squeezer thing, you will need it, they will give you a card with the color of where you need to go. Find an empty bed and just lay down, there's a pillow thing for your arm, put it on the side you want them to use. There's a little cubby at the foot of the bed. The little card they give you, hang it on the machine next to the bed. Make sure you have everything you need to lay there for one hour because once they have you connected you can't get up. You can't take a nap because they put a blood pressure cuff on your arm that will squeeze your arm when it's time for you to start repeatedly pumping your fist, so you need to be awake for that. Lol, before I knew anything I saw this lady in front of pumping her hand so fast it looked like ..... Anyway, you'll see. Another tip, Noemi has a heavy hand. After a while you hear your plasma pouring into the plastic container, you'll see the machine start at zero, you're done once it reaches 1000. I was constantly looking at the machine, the clock and the plasma pouring into the container and then watching everyone pumping their hands so fast and hard. Lol, I chuckled a lot. Did I tell you not to forget to take a blanket or something to keep you warm. After the container is full, your left over blood is returned to your body and if the machine detects you need fluids it will give you fluids automatically. Once you're done, the machine turns green which tells the staff you're done. Now you wait until someone is available to disconnect you. They come and disconnect you, bandage you up, sometimes tightly, which doesn't need to be but oh well, you just want to leave. They give you your colored card back and you put it in a container at the front. Before you walk out your money is in your acct. Voilà Is it worth it, the time, the traffic, yes, if you need the money. Most of the people in there are there for the same thing, they need money and right now. $80, $90, $100 is worth it if you need to pay a bill, gas, groceries, or even just to hold you till your next pay check. Kids are not allowed. The place is clean. Staff wipe after every person, gloves are changed. Drink plenty of water before and after, eat good before you go. You can only go twice a week and have at least one day in between your last appt. That's it.
