Unfortunate that I am leaving this message since there are good phebs and screeners, but overall Biomat San Marcos is a careless establishment within the Grifols web. Previously had to sit out 52 days due to a phlebotomist error, and now I've had a poor wrap (post donation) which led to bleeding all over my clothes. Walked back in to have it re-wrapped and was simply asked to stand in front of other donors while I waited (while I am still bleeding). New trainee was nice enough to wrap me up but hardly got an apology. All the while the responsible phleb and management laughed it off. If you have to donate here..do it at your own risk. I don't recommend it and would suggest driving an extra few minutes to Kyle. read more

Fair warning though, if you have a hard to get vain for them to drain the plasma they will mess it up badly, so be sure you got a good vain that's easy for them to get and it should be fine! Everybody here is so "professional" that they talk to you like a robot and not a person. This seems like the kind of place where it is easy to lose your job because the rules are so strict. On your first few visits be prepared to wait. And wait you will it can take up to 5 hours depending on how busy they are and every time I've come they are (I've been three times.) Tips... Drink lots of water before you come. Come early in the day when it's not as busy. Don't have somewhere to be for several hours. Don't make jokes with the staff just give clear, short, and concise answers to there questions, and follow all of there little rules. The money isn't that grew for as long as it takes and all the bull crap that you have to put up with, but over time that money adds up. On your first visit make sure you bring your social security card... I bet you get a w-2 for your donation. read more

Ok, so it's a good way to get some easy cash, but so is any plasma place. Yes it's convenient enough, especially if you live close by, but what I cannot get by is how incredibly rude the staff is. I was harshly yelled at for being on my phone while in the chair and for not keeping enough pressure over my arm after they took the needle out. Then I'm pretty sure out of spite, she deliberately wrapped the bandage around my arm extra tight just to be petty and inconvenience me. I don't mean to sound like "one of those customers" but trust me. I know what it looks like when irritated people take their frustrations out on the first person in front of them. read more

I've been hurt too many times here where I don't feel safe coming back. Last time 2 different workers adjusted my needle without eachother knowing so my arm swelled up like it was gonna blow up and it took them a long time to take the needle out since the one I called to help wasn't confident enough to take it out herself . So I had to get stuck in my other arm and luckily I was able to finish . This time when I was stuck blood went gushing out my arm and the needle was adjusted several times until I got a hemoglobin and my arm swelled up , so again I had to be restuck in my other arm where it was again adjusted multiple times with no luck , so I was sent home bloody and in alot of pain and no tips on how to treat my injuries from staff. read more

I have been six times and I love donating. Not only because you are saving a life, but they give you money too! Does it hurt- Yes- it's a needle! Are they going to have new staff?! Yes- that's every single industry! So people need to quit their complaining. They are not strict- they are doing their job- helping others save lives and only taking SAFE blood. If you do not weight enough it is protecting YOU that they do not take your blood. If your blood pressure is too high- same. Great easy extra cash that makes a difference. Win win! read more

I've donated here twice now & I plan to go back to donate again. The first visit does take longer but subsequent visits are much quicker. That is because they give the donor a physical the first time that you go (& on a yearly basis if you continue going). As others have stated, there are a lot of questions to answer but they are trying to keep their plasma supply safe. You do need to have certain iron & protein levels to keep donation safe for the donor. If you would like to have a little extra cash for about two hours of your week (2 donations), this is an easy, hassle-free way to do that. The phlebotomists & staff I've dealt with have been nothing short of kind & professional. I feel valued while I am there. In fact, on the Fourth of July they had festive cupcakes, popcorn & cold water bottles for their donors! read more

Now I know why these places get such bad reviews. I go in there waste over an hour of my time filling out all the information they want. At the end of all of it they say that I didn't have a big enough breakfast even though I had cereal and a banana and a glass of water. They interrogated me on everything in the world and made me read stuff out loud. Asked me what I learned from it like I was still in fucking high school. Then after going through all of their stupid little tests they told me I can't donate unless I want to go eat more food ( which the dude says two burritos and orange juice) then come back. For a country that says we need more donators they really make it annoying. No wonder why people don't do this stuff. Never going back. read more

I donated and worked here for a while which is a story for another day. Anyways, my boyfriend at the time donated a few times. After his 4th or 5th time, I went in to donate. They told me I couldn't and they couldn't explain why to me and needed to talk to my fiancé. I understand because HIPAA. Sure. I'll have him come in. He went in to talk to them and they told him he tested positive for Hepatitis C and could donate again if he got a note from his doctor saying he tested negative. He went to the doctor, paid for a blood test, got a note saying he doesn't have Hepatitis C and went back. They told him the note meant nothing and he still could not donate ever again. They should have just told us it was irreversible. I went in to donate again and they said I cannot donate until I had zero contact with him for 12 months. We're engaged now so looks like I won't ever be donating again. read more

The place is ok for a quick bit of cash. It always takes at least an hour or more tho... the staff are nice, but they seem very fresh in the field. I have had several go to draw the plasma and they had to re-stick me. I even had someone stick my arm and then more the needle around. Like I said tho if your looking for quick easy cash this place is available, and your helping others when you donate so it's a win win except ur arms may bruise a bit. read more
