Located in the Northwoods of northern Wisconsin, the park's highlight is the Doughboy Trail, a well-developed two-mile loop that offers excellent views of both Copper Falls and Brownstone Falls. The trail is easy to follow, well-maintained, and includes several scenic overlooks. Because of its distance--several hours from cities like Madison--I recommend combining a visit with other Northwoods attractions. A great option is to stop here while exploring the Apostle Islands or the Bayfield area. Once inside the park, follow the main road past the ranger station until it ends at the parking lot, where you'll find restrooms and the Doughboy Trailhead. This is a beautiful park and well worth the stop, especially if you plan it alongside other northern Wisconsin adventures.

The $4 wood bundles were rather sparse, but two bundles sufficed per night for bonfire. Each primitive campsite for tents had a fire ring and picnic table. The sites were rather close together, separated by only a few trees and bushes. We hoped for a few good spots to set up hammocks, but only one set of trees was fitting for an ill-hung hammock. The pit toilet outhouses were outfitted with lights, hand sanitizer, and air fresheners, and so were better than many dirty typical outhouses elsewhere. Appreciated the no-need-to-check-in approach by the proprietors. RV spots available around the corner from primitive campsites. For $15 per night, this is a fair deal, but not necessarily a good set of accommodations for car campers who want a few of the added benefits of showers and more campsite privacy.

Bathrooms were clean but the women's was often busy. Not much else you can expect during peak camping season however. Very nice and close access to the beach as well as a nearby candy store. This place is great if you're looking for a nice place in the two harbors/Duluth area, but not looking to raise wild shenanigans. The owner seems to strictly enforce the 10:00 quiet rule time, which was fine with us.

Copper Range Campground in the Brule River State Forest is one of the best locations for paddling…read moreor fishing the Bois Brule River. A short walk from the campground itself gives you access to a decent put-in/take-out location for running the river. There are a couple good steelhead holes nearby as well. The bathrooms are solid, and there is a water pump to load up on a hot summer day. You can reserve sites or walk up if sites are still available. Every site has a good fire ring and log bench or two. Fellow campers are usually very friendly and willing to share fishing tips and locations.

The campground is beautiful, in a tall pine forest with nice sized campsites with newer fire rings and ADA accessible picnic tables. The campsites are semi private, you can see your neighbors but are nicely spaced out. The well water is fresh, cold, and tastes great - no iron water like the North Shore. It's also nice to have the town of Brule nearby for canoe rentals (they will pick you up at your site), Ice, Firewood, Convenience Store and bar. The only negative was that the bathrooms were pretty rough even by pit toilet standards. Also, there was lax enforcement of campground rules. This is good if you despise rules, not so good if you don't like hearing twin dobermans bark all day or see a kid in the next campsite shooting a pellet gun. But overall this is a very nice campground and a must for tent campers.
