And no, I'm not sure why Duluth hotel properties are so relatively expensive. We found the Hotel relatively easy to find, although the adjacent building/road construction made the directions (and turns) a little more challenging. Getting back into Duluth Minnesota (for Dinner later) was fairly easy and port/lake scenic. If there's a next time, I'll continue up the North Shore and make my stop more that a one night visit. The Hampton property reflects the modern refurbishments within the chain, which I found clean, comfortable and welcoming. Upon check-in, the most important tasks were: 1. Shower (!) 2. Change into Clean Clothes (Yes, the ride down from Ely was a little "ripe") 3. Separate and Pack Up the "Canoe Clothes" 4. Make Dinner Reservations (Grandma's) 5. Chat with Gayle again (the first call upon return from the Lake) I also got a good night sleep, enjoyed the free hot breakfast (and friendly staff) in the morning, and hung out with Bob/Bird and Jeff before we all went our separate ways.

This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I could not book with them based on the review I had left, which feels retaliatory and further discriminatory. I am deeply upset that instead of addressing the issues I raised regarding staff behavior, the hotel chose to cancel my booking and not allow me to return. This feels like a direct violation of my rights as a paying guest, and I find it unacceptable. I said good and not so good things in my initial review but I'm assuming that honesty does not go a long way here. Constructive criticism is not allowed or you will not be able to book again.

The room was clean, comfortable and updated with a view out the back. We stayed in the connected rooms so it was like a motel but they also had separate cottages behind that to stay in. The family that runs it must live near one end where you can see piles of stuff all over. I admit that looked really bad so i was afraid of what the room would be like and my wife and I enjoyed our stay there. We would book another room there, no problem. It was also affordable. They have their own private parking lot and it's right in the heart of the downtown area and its backyard is the beautiful Lake Superior. I greatly appreciated the water station so I could stay hydrated during my stay here which is located in the lobby. Our room was on the 3rd floor (#336) facing the parking lot vs the other side of the building all have balconies and face Lake Superior. It's also less expensive facing the parking lot vs the lake. The next morning was so foggy that you couldn't even see the lake at all. The pool area was very nice with huge vaulted ceilings and a nice sized hot tub. Please note that the button for the hot tub timer is right next to the emergency button which aren't labeled well. They even have towels to use. We noticed that other families just left their discarded wet towels around on loungers vs throwing them in the laundry bin. In regards to our specific hotel room, the water spigot in the bathroom sprays very abruptly y and makes a mess so be aware of that. The bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash are great but it literally hurts your hands to squeeze them to get the stuff out. Plus the bottles are ribbed so it's not nice on the hands. Otherwise the room was great, beds comfy, tv worked, etc. It was also really nice to park the car and walk everywhere...the "beach", restaurants, shops, boardwalk, etc.

She has an artist's eye, because the suite was beautifully decorated as well as impeccably clean. She let us into the suite after a just a quick card tap and no paperwork to fill out. A note inside the suite asked us to simply leave the key in the place as we left. So easy. The suite includes one queen bed and a sleeper sofa, plus a kitchenette with two kinds of coffee makers and some coffee grounds available, plus all needed dishes. Even scissors to help open packages. Eileen thought of everything. My relative loved the extra shelf in the bathroom to set down her shower things, so unlike other hotels. The parking area was spacious. And even though there were residents in the other suite, we never heard them talking or any electronic device in the background, so the walls are thick. In addition, the Stardust is near to several restaurants, even within walking distance. Will definitely stay there again if we come to Floodwood.

However, my biggest complaint is that the walls are thin and you can hear EVERY door slam, pounding feet, etc... If you're noise sensitive, beware and ask for a room on the third floor and away from stairs and elevator. #INeedToSleep Overall, I'd entertain coming back if I needed a one night cheaper place to sleep near Duluth but definitely wouldn't stay long term.
