I was told after providing a deposit that my event coordinator (Kate) would reach out to finalize plans early February. Mid February rolls around and I have not heard from Kate. I reached out via email only to find that Kate is no longer working with Nicole's. Our event was passed on to Margaret. No problem. Margaret and I arranged a call where I discussed our in laws are footing the bill and they LOVE food. So we wanted a lot and a large variety despite being a smaller wedding (50-75 people). Margaret spent the entire call talking me down and telling me I was ordering too much. She asked I look over the options again and downsize. I told her we would but we do still want a large variety. A day or two later I go to email Margaret our (still large but) downsized order...only to find an email from her waiting for me. Her email stated that Nicole's simply could not service us and it was a mistake for Kate to take us on originally. She went on to say that the only way it was feasible for them to serve our wedding is if we were willing to spend a minimum of $15,000 BEFORE TAXES AND FEES. So to recap we've had them booked since November. Between November and March they didn't think to tell us they couldn't serve us. And after talking me down Margaret comes back not 72 hours later to tell me we have to pay over $15 grand. BEFORE TAXES AND FEES. Margaret left us hanging and scrambling to find a caterer for one of the busiest wedding weekends of the year. And to add to the unprofessionalism after providing our home address for her to return our deposit via check...she sent it to the location of our wedding event instead. Do not work with these people and risk being put in the situation I'm in. They cannot be trusted to uphold their end of a bargain. Hell, they can't even be trusted to address an envelope.

The dark wood paneled walls, large fireplace, assortment of easy chairs, couches, and high desktop table gave off a feeling of warmth and welcoming. The friendly bartender introduced herself (sorry I've forgotten her name) and informed us that spirit-wise, the bar was capable of preparing the standard, traditional drinks like Manhattans, martinis, etc. All beers were poured from cans, and at my request, she recited the names of about six that were available. I don't believe anyone in our party inquired about the wines that were available. The building simply calls out for an explanation of its history. Upon our request, the bartender offered to provide either the "brief" or "full" option. We requested the full history. She was obviously well up to the task. You would be amazed at the variety of things you could learn here. Just to touch on a few key topics that were mentioned, consider Alexander Hamilton's wife, puffed rice, Bab-o cleanser (cue up the jingle), Bishop Gibbons, and an orthopedic surgeon. I don't know what the normal food arrangements are in the Lounge. I'm guessing that our out-of-town hosts requested some snacks for us as a few bowls appeared with mixed nuts, crackers and cheese, fresh grapes, humus, and warm pretzel/croissant rolls, and a plate of prosciutto wrapped cream cheese. The rooms are furnished with just the right amount of furniture allowing the room to feel light and airy. Each room is designed with the right amount of seating for flow and multiple conversation points without anyone feeling crowded or being interrupted by another conversation. Although the rooms have dark paneling the large windows and French doors allow for an abundance of light. The backyard is lovely and flows into Washington Park! Imagine having a whole park as your backyard!! I would love to come back for a stay!

It is off of a hallway off of the concourse, and though there is a sign it isn't obvious and I was glad I came with friends who knew the way. Upon entering the elevator, there were two options: restaurant (floor 2) and bathrooms (floor 1). Yup, they are on separate floors. The elevator dumps you in the very middle of the restaurant which I considered awkward. Leaving to use the restroom involves waiting in the middle again for the elevator, and then returning via the same manner. The buffets were wooden boards that were set up on saw horses in the middle of the room with power cords to the heaters and heat lamps. It seemed a bit amateurish but I suppose since they only do the buffet once a week they have to keep it easy to set up and break down. Every Thursday they do an Italian buffet lunch (and I don't think they do any other regular meal service) which apparently has various items that rotate. Today it was: Appetizers: Caesar Salad; Chopped Garden Salad; Grilled Vegetable Salad; Frittata with Four Cheeses; Eggplant & Tomato Compote; Crusty Bread Main dishes: Penne Primavera with Oil and Garlic; Rigatoni Bolognese; Chicken Parmesan; Porchetta; Grilled Vegetable Medley Desserts: Assorted Italian Desserts & Pastries (They had about 6 different dessert options.) The food on average decent. It is all served buffet style so dishes may get dried, sauces will congeal, and vegetables will weep water. I thought the chicken parm. was decent, I enjoyed the rigatoni Bolognese, and considered the frittata a standout dish. I took what I thought was a cream puff for dessert but it was filled with chocolate chip cannoli filling instead (I think). The staff were pleasant and frequently refilled the buffet. However, they kept taking our plates but wanted us to keep our dirty silverware which we had to put on the table cloth. By the end of the meal service, that cloth must look pretty bad. Prices were fair, I think $13 a person. However, it just felt really awkward at times. It felt like a restaurant was being crammed into a space that didn't really work (and at one time this was a really nice restaurant so I have been told). While it has the luxury of boasting the only buffet at the Plaza, I don't think I would come back unless there was another special Office function.

I am impressed by this flowers shop. I order online after reading several glowing reviews. I…read morenoticed they were mentioned in the Times Union as one of the top florists around. So I placed my order online easily enough. They had several options available fit what I was looking for. I selected my choice and completed the order. I was sent a confirmation and later a notice that the Flowers were out for delivery. Unbeknownst to me, my significant other was on the move this particular day and once I found that out it was nice that the notice of delivery stated who the driver was and a phone number to call or text. I made use of the text feature and let the driver know that the recipient would not be home and to leave the flowers on the porch. The driver contacted me back to tell me they got the message and would do so. I was not home at the time of delivery but saw on my camera system the driver took due care placing the flowers just right on a chair instead of just leaving them on the floor of the porch. It was how she placed them. Carefully and paused to look at them to make sure it looked nice. Like a presentation. I truly appreciated that. The flowers are beautiful and high quality The shop obviously employs good people. It's a little pricier than some but that sort of care and quality are well worth it especially when you are trying to send something thoughtful.
