Had to bring my pup in for his annual appointment and vaccines. Now we used to have a dog when I was little who hated going to the vet, but not our current dog. This dog smiles for the vet and the techs. Dr. Gavron is who Dash sees. He gets so excited. I love how she gets on the floor with him and gives him lots of love. She took her time explaining some of the concerns we had, offered some cheaper alternatives, and was just so sweet to our pup. I'm not exactly sure how their prices compare to other vets, but they go through the estimate, what each vaccine, the exam, fecal test, etc costs and you sign that you agree. He was taken back, given his vaccines, we paid and were on our way. He also received what seemed like 10 treats from the Dr. maybe that's why he gets so excited to come here read more

Wildly unprofessional, rude, and unable to handle a justified complaint. Customer service is lacking any shred of basic human decency. Response to a complaint is "we'll send you your records so you can find a new vet". Seems like they are incapable of acknowledging how poorly they handle situations and instead respond with aggressive attitude. Julie was the rudest most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. Dr. Dee is the best! Very knowledgeable and nice, most of the staff is good. I love that they leave open appointments for emergencies so can always get in if needed. There is only one vet that we absolutely will not use here Dr. P because she doesn't bother to read other doctors notes or pet info before calling us (almost gave us a heart attack because she didnt read the file about our dog). The boarding here is good but expensive and extra little fees for things like giving meds just make it worse ($5 a day for a medication I am providing is ridiculous). I use to take my pets here. Hindsight I am finding out my cat has tooth resorpation, which is extremely painful and wasn't caught in the visits. It was noted that my cat had lost some teeth. But no further questions asked or research done as to why it was happening. Now I know my poor cat has been suffering in silence for years with progressive tooth root loss. As much as I do not like leaving negative reviews, I highly recommend finding a different vet if you have a cat. We took our dog here and didn't have any issues but I do not think the vets are as well trained with cats as they are with dogs. When I wrote my first review, I picked up my cat and she quite literally acted feral. I have never seen her act that way before. But the vets were very kind and provided updates while they held her at the clinic to collect a urine sample so I assumed my kitty was acting that way due to being held for observation all day. I came back a few months later for a different reason, and my cat acted completely fine when I was in the room and once again got aggressive when the vets took her in the back for an injection. The vet told me she is close to the point of needing full sedation for vet visits. This comment concerned me because when she visited our vet in Orlando, she received injections with no problem. This was the only vet that she turned aggressive at. I ended up taking her to a different vet that specializes in cats and she was not aggressive at all. We were there for over an hour and she was completely fine, and they administered an injection in front of me and there were no issues. So I don't think my cat is the problem but how the vets handled the visit at Birch Island. Again, we had a good experience with our dog here but I would recommend going elsewhere if you have a cat. read more

This is the ONLY place I trust with my doggies! We have 3 dogs and they all love this place! All the people working there are so sweet and caring and give our dogs many kisses! They are also very honest- they told me my little Yorkie (who was underweight at the time & had stomach issues) that he need to get his teeth fixed & while they could have gotten lost of money that day they instead warned me that due to his weight the anesthesia could possibly kill him, so I really love how honest they are unlike other places that just wanna collect your money. They are also aware that I have bad anxiety when it comes to my dogs so they call me during their appointments to keep me updated so I know everything is ok! I love this place so much I drive 30 minutes there instead of going to a local place! read more

I'm extremely upset. I have been bringing my fur babies here since I moved here five years ago. I've never had an issue when one of them passes bringing them in to arrange cremation. This morning I called and spoke with Sarah who had no remorse or even showed any ounce of sympathy that we had lost one of our babies. Instead put me on hold to see if she could set up an appointment for me. I've done this with all my fur babies it takes only a few minutes to bring your baby in, pick out the urn, and then say your goodbyes. I've always been able to come in never had to set up an appointment. Then not once did she say she felt bad for us or she was sorry for our lose. She doesn't need to be working in a place where she has no sympathy for someone's babies. They have been going downhill this last year. Think it's time to find a new place. I wish I would have lost all my Christianity on this woman and called her more thank a sarcastic butt when I asked for the crematory number they use. She is not a pleasant person. Just a heads up, my 16.5 year old shitzu supposedly jumped out of the cage on second row in the grooming room. My dog has a bad back, hips and legs and was on medication for it. He's no jumper, he is carried to bed and has steps for the couch. Groomer called me and told me what happened and that Dr D checked him out. She said he was ok. Actually, he wasn't. He was confused when I got him home: bumping into walls, chairs, urinating and defecating on the floors. He would walk in circles outside and try to go through bushes etc. I brought him back to a different vet at Birch the next day and she gave me eye drops for him and didn't charge me got an office visit. I did the drops diligently and did not see any improvement in the 5 days for a return check up. I had to make a decision: my dog isn't going to improve. I took him to another vet and asked his opinion on what could have happened. It's hard to tell, possible concussion or stroke when he fell. I had to put my rescue dog to sleep Thursday, a pet that has been in my life for 15 years. I hope the groomer remembers to lock the cage the next time, this shouldn't have happened to my sweet dog, Woody. read more

We have a Great Dane and he is super skidding of everything so we knew we had something special when he didn't have reservations with the hospital or daycare staff. It's very convenient to have the full service vet onsite in case anything happens at daycare/ boarding. They also have groomers who are good at taming him for bath time. On Monday we faced reality and had to say goodbye to our 18 year old, Jack Russel mix, Sunny. She has been a pure joy to both my husband and I, plus everyone that knew her. The last year has been difficult due to her decline; but we weathered thru it in hopes to extend our lives with her a little longer. About a week ago she began declining quickly; I could see her asking me to release her. Her total demeanor changed and I knew it was time. Dr Dee was kind, compassionate, caring. We have been going to Birch Island for a couple years now and really love the attention they give us and our animals. The vet's knowledge and kindness really shows each and every time. It's also kept quite clean given all the animals going in and out of this place. The only thing that irks me sometimes is that those who take the calls seem to have no idea why we'd be calling and what's going on with out pet. We'll have already given our name and the pet's name and I could say I need an updated prescription for insulin and they would ask if my pet has diabetes. I'd think the file would indicate that. There's also been a couple of times we felt they were in a bad mood and trying to rush us off the phone. It's not enought to stop going as we get the great service upon arrival. read more

I recently moved to this area of town. Birch Island is the closest Veterinary Hospital to my house. My doghter Desi was expecting her first litter and I wanted to ensure she would be in the hands of the very best. I was very pleased with the staff at Birch Island. They are polite and very courteous to all their clients. Dr. Hannah was the Dr. that initially examined Desi and advised me on things to do and prepare for prior to our babies arriving. She's pleasant and very knowledgeable. She informed me of what to expect being that this is my first time possibly delivering puppies. Desi's pregnancy progressed until she was overdue for her expected due date. Dr. D was the next doctor that informed me of the next steps to take for the safe arrival of my puppies. Dr.D is an amazing Veterinarian, funny and very personable. She informed me that Desi was expecting several puppies. Ultimate Desi required a caesarean to deliver the huge litter. Dr Mallet was the surgeon that performed the caesarean on Desi, delivering 13 healthy puppies. The birth of my grandpups required all the staff at Birch Island to deliver all the babies safely. I thank God for the staff and Doctors at Birch Island because there was no way I could've possibly delivered that number of pups safely. I was also pleased with the cost of the visits and all services that I received at Birch Island. I literally paid half of what other animal hospitals were charging for a caesarean. After my puppies arrived, I received several follow up calls from Birch Island from Dr. Mallet and staff, checking on Desi and the puppies. Birch Island is my new hospital for all my furbabies. My daughters have informed me that they would be changing vets to Birch Island. They loved Dr. D, Dr. Mallet and staff. All 13 puppies are healthy and growning. Thank you so much.. read more

On Sunday September 3rd my 3 pound yorkie was killed while being boarded at Birch Island Veterinary Center. When they called to tell me she was gone they said she "snuck" though the fence and a "lab mix" attacked her. I immediately called my father to go pick up my other yorkie who was staying there as well because we were 8 hours away. When he arrived he was told it was a pit bull that did not "play well with other dogs" and was in a play area alone next to the small dogs because he wasn't supposed to be around other animals. He went to see where she got through and there were gaps where their fence connected with a door. Totally big enough for her little 3 pound body to fit through. I want people to be aware of this incident so no one has to feel the pain my husband and I are feeling right now. She has proceeded to remove the review my husband posted on google and any negative comments that came on her Facebook page. I hope this post saves another family. read more

Dr. Greer (aka Dee) reached out to my family when we first moved here. I was struggling with an ill husband and an injured dog and I knew nobody. She was AMAZING. She was instrumental in my dog having a successful recovery and has seen our family of pets ever since. I am beyond thrilled to have found her. She gets right on the floor with my dogs, interacts with them calmly & patiently all while talking to us in an easygoing yet informative manner. She has always been available when I've had questions or concerns and has educated me on issues I was previously unaware of. Her staff is equally competent and cordial. I know her dream all along was to create a beautiful, innovative, comforting space for animals and their people. She has achieved that. But it ultimately comes down to quality of care and the character of vet & staff. She has delivered on both in an extraordinary way. I have referred several people to Birch Island now and they've all been super happy with the care they received for both them and their pets. I have also used the daycare for two of my dogs and they absolutely love it there. I know they are having a great time in a safe environment with caring staff. As a side note, I have no problem having my dogs fully vaccinated to enjoy the amenities there. It just shows me that they are going above and beyond to protect my animals. I've been taking my dog to Dr. Dee since she was at VCA. I was so excited to hear she was opening up her own practice and you can tell by the beautiful place she has created that she has poured her heart and soul into it. The location is super convenient and they offer an extensive variety of supplementary services, like grooming, boarding and daycare. There's even an app you can use to order food, refill prescriptions, request appointments and more. The staff is wonderful. Everyone I've spoken with at the facility is knowledgeable, passionate and professional. My dog has anxiety and they're always so patient and create an environment where he feels safe. Dr. Nix is the in-house orthopedic specialist. I did extensive research when my dog was diagnosed with hip dysplasia and Dr. Nix was at the top of the list of local specialists. Between him and Dr. Dee, I am confident my boy is recieving the best possible care. read more

I scheduled an appointment for my dog, it was really hard to get in contact and when I did I was on hold for 30+ mins. Once I had my dog in there they were pretty quick on getting us in and out. Just a check up and 2 shots the bill was above 300$ wich is just to much. My dog has heart worms and some digestive worms when I tried to get in contact and see what the best course for my dog is to treat her I left numourse voicemails and tried calling but no cal back or response. read more

I have only written 1 reviews as I typically do not take the time. However, I feel like they try to take advantage of people and want to warn others. We have used them twice after looking into several options in our area. Both times we have been lied to and charged without discussion or accurate information. The first time was right after we adopted our new fur baby. We called for pricing and was told she needed a dog flu shot for grooming. This was a two part shot that you pay for the $40 dollars for part one and get the second shot in a few weeks included in the one price. That was false as today she went back and we were charged another $40 dollars today. We were not entirely sure what her breed was, as she was a rescue, and told she needed a fecal and quick look over, but it was complimentary. This was fine, we were told if they found anything they would call us with pricing etc. We received a call from the vet who was very nice, no complaints there. No call from the Groomer. However, we were quoted one price for all services and were charged a much different price. Like the "complimentary" check and fecal that cost $39.10. We did not say anything because we thought maybe it is a fluke. So we schedule today for another grooming appt and decide to give a second shot to at least finish the flu shot. My husband dropped off and inquired about shedding help. He was again told he would get a call to discuss options and pricing. That was at 7:30am. At 1:25pm, my husband calls to inquire about the call and her status and is told that our baby is done and the shedding treatment was given. There was no call. There was no option. The treatment was only 20.00 so it isn't the end of the world, but this is the second out of two visits that we have been given one price and then charged another with no communication. That on top of the false information about the $80 flu shot, not $40, I would say be wary. We were also charged more than quoted for grooming due to "extra hair." Guess what? Never told that until after the services provided. Unfortunately, we were hoping to establish both our dogs here because it is closer to our home. However, after two "bad tastes," we will not return and felt the need to warn others. read more

I read the reviews on this site before going so I already knew about the vaccines. To be fair, Birch Island sent an email before hand about it and when they brought it up during the exam, they made a point to say that other places don't require it, they don't want to push it etc. It's just their recommendation. Relax people. You can decline. Birch is about as nice as it gets. They let us tour the facility (including the ICU) and it was squeaky clean. No wait. No hassles. Literally nothing to complain about. I love the fact that this is an animal hospital and also daycare, so when there is something wrong with my pet, the vet is just a few steps away. When I took a tour to look at the place , it smelled clean and looked very clean. My dog(Sally) has been going to the daycare for a few months already Monday-Friday while I am at work and she loves it. The staffs here are so friendly and have passion for pets.....Leila, Kimberly, Monica and many more staffs in the back that I don't know their names. My dogs seemed to spend the right amount of energy throughout the day here. The only thing I wasn't sure is the limit of the pool access. My dog loves pool, but it wouldn't be an ideal to let the dogs go in everyday since it could cause the skin problem in general. read more

Wonderful place to board our fur baby. Our shy little guy prefers quiet and a little privacy after playtime. They have suites specifically for this and the staff give him special attention to ease any anxiety. Dr. Dee is great and having her right there on site gives us peace of mind when traveling. This place is the best. My cat (17 years old) never really liked anybody touching him much less picking him up. Dr Dee and the vet techs were able to pet and carry him without any problems and that was on the first visit a few months ago. We haven't had Birch Island vet for very long because they haven't been open very long here off Phillips Hwy. I highly recommend this place for dogs and cats. I see dogs being dropped off for boarding and day care and they are so excited to go here. Keep up the great work. We had to board our cat 2 weeks ago and they were awesome with him. They even sent pictures of him each day. Unfortunately, we had to put our baby to sleep today. Dr Dee and her staff were amazing with walking us through this very difficult decision. Dr. Dee is absolutely the very best! You will not find another vet that will genuinely care for your fur-babies the way she does! The center is beautiful, clean, and well organized. The staff is pretty awesome too! Our pups love Dr. Dee, her staff, and their Spa/Play Days Dr. Dee has taken care of our fur-babies for many years, through three locations, and we have not seen any significant increase, if any, in any of her fees, including spa. So, the comments made earlier about increasing fees for the pretty building is just incorrect! From experience...She would never "pushed" charges. If anything, it would be just the opposite, she would research/find us affordable options. read more

I had a good experience bringing my cat here to have his ears checked and routine vaccination. I'd been here before checking it out for a potential place for cat boarding, and the facility is new and very modern. Looks like a very nice place for a cat to stay for a few days and there are different options for the size of space you can rent for your cat, as well as a shared space. I didn't board at the time, but plan to in the future. The vet visit went fine, Dr. Deeana and her staff all seemed knowledgeable and courteous. I especially like that there are separate entrances and waiting areas for cats and dogs. The one thing I would prefer is to be given a price quote over the phone which it seems they don't do, but in the end the prices seemed reasonable to me. Dr. Dee, we call her the dog whisperer. She is the ONLY one I trust when it comes to our fur kids! Our dogs love her to pieces. Ben who is part of the staff is one of my favorite people as well. He works with my Max who is usually leery with men but when he sees Ben he goes nuts and gives him hugs and kisses. Ben is a great photographer as well. He sends the clients pictures of our animals during play time. The facility itself we call the " Taj Mahal" of vets. It is spacious with beautiful up to date boarding areas. I personally love the senior dog area that has plenty of couches for the doggies to lounge on. We frequently take advantage of the Wednesday-Thursday spa/play days for about $30. This includes a bath, ears cleaned, nails clipped and play time. I drop the kids off on my way to work and then pick them up when I get off and they are tuckered out! I called this place last week to schedule a grooming appt. At no time, during my initial phone call, did anyone mention specific vaccinations, worm checks, flu shots etc. I realize a rabies shot is essential, and both of my dogs are up to date with recent exams! Our vet doesn't push the flu shot, so we never got it. I showed up this morning with my dogs, and was told they needed, flu shot, bordatella, stool check, etc! This would be in excess of 100.00 per dog, plus grooming! I immediately called my vet, who gave me the date of their last exam, 2018, and they don't need rabies until 2021! I left without grooming, needless to say. I called back to ask for manager of birch island and was instead called by the vet! She was nasty, in no way apologetic for my time spent, and their poor communication skills! She said, the groomer called me. I have zero messages from groomer! I also called 3 other groomers and NONE require more than rabies and some, rabies plus bordatella, absolutely no flu or worm check! So, FYI, that fancy building is being paid for, compliments of animal owners, by the vets office padding the fees! Another vet I used in the past tried that same deal, with requiring they bathe your dog for 35.00 regardless of how clean or well groomed they are, any time you used them for boarding! Yes, the building is beautiful, but the vet was nasty on the phone, defending their poor communication on my first call to schedule grooming appt! She was all about being, right!!! Beware!!! You will pay for her new sparkly building with your hard earned money, while she pads your bill with unnecessary tests, vaccines, etc!!! I love my vet! He is honest, straightforward and not trying to rip people off! Go some place else! The customer is always right, a lesson this vet needs to learn! read more
