Since my last review my family has grown and now my toddlers (2 and 3 years older) are along for the week. We have spent each day fishing, going down to the beach, visiting with Helen - the amazing lady that owns Stone Hill Resort - and playing on the playground with the children. The beach and sandy entry to the lake is AWESOME for the kids and the shape and turn of the dock makes a natural swimming area that has a max depth of about 16" making it a PERFECT way to introduce the toddlers to the lake and swimming in it (while you can keep them in an area that is fairly controlled for safety). Stone Hill has a pontoon boat that you can rent for the week (well worth it and SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than the in-town rental options). Each cabin unit comes with an aluminum fishing boat. Since I last reviewed Stone Hill they have added direct tv and wifi. It is done in a nice way with nothing rustic being taken away but instead supplemented with these additions. This is the singe BEST vacation rental option in northern Wisconsin, still a slice of old Hayward, WI Resort history and an amazing 5 star experience every time I come.

I love how the toppings get crispy, especially the wild rice and feta cheese. I just wish they used chicken breast instead of thigh on the pizzas. The island pizza is also very good but we like to sub and get red sauce instead of the bbq sauce so it's just like a hawaiian pizza. As always, we got the thick crust with both pizzas. It was very busy so we waited about 30 minutes but service was good. We split 2 mediums between 6 of us and it was plenty with the popcorn!

We're able to play while snacking on apps, though their full menu is good too. I also enjoyed their Bloody Mary Bar today. When you order, you get a glass with the vodka and can then make your drink what you want it to be, with lots of options for an overflowing garnish. Trails End has lots of outdoor seating, much of which is shaded. The playground is one of my kids' favorites. When they get antsy, we're able to take them here to burn off some of their energy. You can also park your boat along its dock. Trails End embodies that fun Northwoods vacation spirit!

Waitress never said there would be extra charges.So we added lettuce, tomato, extra mayonnaise, pickles and bacon ( the bacon charge is understandable). Look at what we were charged for the condiments, 1.50 for 1 little piece of lettuce, 1.00 for one slice of tomato, 1.50 for 4 little pickle chips, and .50 for a little mayonnaise package the ones you get at the gas station for free. Also nowhere on the menu is there any indication of these extra charges. Nor any indication of a 3% charge for debt card use.So be careful of what you order. I know it's a resort but come on let's be fair.

As far as the cabins, it's hard to give a sub par review because I really wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt but in the end, it really just wasn't what we were expecting and hope others can learn from it. I will start with the pros: clean cabins, close lake access with docks for boats to pull in, great area to walk in, safe and quiet, close to downtown Hayward, cabin 5 had a great screened in porch, AC is a plus, had fun fishing on the lake but had to get out of the bay. Cons: resort term used loosely as there are minimal amenities, no swimming beach, lodge closed Sun-Tues, boat rental not available on site (although brochure says it is), many missing kitchen tools in cabins, was told all cabins came with bedding but there were only sheets - you'll need to bring your own pillows and blankets, you're kind of on your own once you check in as as property managers did not seem be accessible/available for questions or help after hours, don't expect cell service. We made the most of it and it was an overall decent place to stay but felt a little mislead and wish we'd have asked more questions/had more info about what we were really getting.

Good breakfast, the elderly man working was also very friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who's working in the area who wants a nice place to stay. I was told they had no complaints. The sleeper was so bad, you could count every spring! Bathroom had a very small vanity. Never staying here again.
