My favorite restaurant up in the cable/Namakagon area. We were up for Burke weekend and ate in the dining room Saturday with a reservation. Started with shrimp cocktail (9/10) very tasty and good sized shrimp. I got the NY strip special which was topped with mushrooms and a side of spinach and it was absolutely incredible (10/10). This is our third trip to Garmish USA resort and by far the worst experience we've ever had. We had a 5:15 reservation and we were seated promptly but then sat for at least 15 minutes before any waiter or waitress came to acknowledge us. We watched two other tables be seated after us and order and get their drinks before anyone had even stopped by or acknowledged us. While we were waiting my wife went to the restroom and while washing her hands she noticed that there were too large containers of hand soap, both were completely empty. This was a bit alarming considering every server seemed to be female, but one. This made us feel like maybe they weren't properly washing their hands but we don't know that for sure so I'll go on. The waitress finally came to our table after 15 minutes or so and took our drink order along with our food order as we had plenty of time to decide. I ordered Pilsner on tap to drink, only to have her come back 10-minutes later and me that they were out. Okay no biggie, I'll get something else. Our food finally arrived and my wife had ordered a loaded baked potato without sour cream. We immediately noticed her baked potato was completely smothered with sour cream. In addition, she found a nice strand of hair in her food. Lovely.... We both had the Jagerschnitzel as both of us had had it several times before. The Jagerschnitzel did not taste right and my wife said her water tasted like it came out of a hose. Our inattentive waitress (brown hair with glasses BTW) was by far the worst server we've ever had here. All other tables seemed to be served before us, checked on regularly, and have much better wait staff than we had. Upon asking for our bill we assumed she would at least notice the big glob of sour cream on the plate that my wife had to scrape off and realize that she had forgot to tell them not to include it, but no. We paid our bill and ran for the door. As far as the ambiance goes, the restaurant is really nice but we had flies around us as we were trying to eat our meal. Not exactly the upscale experience you would hope for. Based on our other two visits I would say this is not typical but I feel we need to give this review because someone needs to know how terrible our experience was there today, 7/11/26. read more

We had talked about Garmisch USA and what a fantastic experience it is to stay in the Lodge and enjoy the restaurant to our friends for years. I even took my employees there one weekend for the company Christmas party. I invited and treated our friends from Chicago to a stay at the Lodge for a quick get away. What a freak show! The people at the desk were rude, hostile and obnoxious. The same was true in the restaurant. To give a great example of what a bunch of creeps they are. The WiFi Pass work was upyours! This was a complete embarrassment after our guests drove for hours to this lodge of beastly human behavior. The food in the Restaurant had gone so far down hill it was a joke. A Miserable, MISERABLE experience. DO yourself a favor and stay away. I would give it negative 5 stars. read more

Great atmosphere, went here for Thanksgiving dinner and it was the awful. The dinner rolls came out and as hard as a rock, the stuffing wasn't edible and the turkey looked like it was a turkey loaf. I would go there again, but not for Thanksgiving dinner. read more

We were here once and it seemed like a nice bar/restaurant. However, our gay friends frequented Garmisch and they would not serve them. They ignored them when they walked in and seated themselves, and after they asked for help, they ignored them. I one hundred percent believe that this was homophobic discrimination on their part. This was definitely a hidden gem! GPS wasn't reliable, but so glad we found it. One of the very best Bloody Mary's I've ever had with enough garnishes to make a meal! Took a group of 8 guests on Tuesday 8/5/25 and had the absolute worst service ever and the food was largely unedible. Such a shame to such a storied restaurant. The setting of the restaurant and resort is everything. Right on beautiful Lake Namakagon, what more can you ask for? It truly feels like it's frozen in time. The wood cabin feel is so cozy. I love the small town feel of the entire resort. It's a breath of fresh air for me that there is bad cell service in that area. You get to be fully immersed in the moment if you wish. Wifi is available for those who can't live without. The air is crisp and fresh outside by the water. Service is always great and lively. I love getting to know the servers. Our server, Austin, this past time was actually from Clearwater and had travelled all over the country being a bartender and server. It was fascinating to learn about his life and share good conversation. The food overall is not as good as a big city, I won't lie. But it is very good and there are certain items you MUST try. The escargot surprisingly are phenomenal and 100% worth the price. The steaks are decent. I wouldn't recommend seafood here. Try a potato pancake with apple sauce and sour cream! The chicken and veal schnitzel are superb!!! The sauces are so tasty. The German food is definitely the way to go. I also recommend spaetzle and the kraut. Wine is surprisingly cheap in my opinion, as well. I can't comment on the cocktails. We got key lime pie to celebrate my birthday and it was delightful! Overall, staying at the resort is an experience you must try in your lifetime! We truly recommend the castle. There are so many details in the architecture that are just fascinating. It's huge and can house plenty of guests! We enjoyed the fire pit, as well. It was a bit chilly for most of our typical water sports but we still enjoyed. I must say I am most definitely not impressed with the food I had. I ordered a burger, medium well, and with chips. In return I got a burger that could have been considered raw-medium with fries doused with salt. The waiter was not very friendly and never asked how our food was during the extended wait times. The restaurant serves beautiful, delicious food. The waitstaff was fantastic! We were in a basement area for sleeping. The carpet was wet in one corner, but running the available dehumidifier took care of it. The room was well appointed. We wish we would have known we had to supply our own drinking water. Negative, snarky political messages should not be scrawled on a white board above the soup of the day. Why antagonize customers who may not agree with you politically? Apparently this message is supported by the owner because I saw a review from 2013 which also complained that people with 'other' political views were not welcome. The "let's go Brandon" phrase is stale and vulgar. Also, our service for bar food was atrocious. Our waiter barely made an appearance - no silverware, condiments, not even a check. The food was acceptable. You have lost another customer. One would think a tourist resort would try to be welcoming to everyone. read more

There is so much to love about Garmisch. First off, it's a Swiss themed resort built in the 20's (after the ski area Garmisch in Switzerland) so you can expect a cluster of chalet style cottages and homes. All of them are now privately owned but can be rented through the main lodge. The lodge itself is glorious with a three story great room, a roaring fireplace, cozy leather chairs and floor to ceiling views of the lake. On a chilly day, there isn't a nicer place to be. The restaurant serves "upscale" meals - meaning most things are $15+ but you can still wear jeans. The food is pretty good but stick to basics - there are some fancy pants preparations on the menu but just order classics - fish fry, steaks, chops. Everything comes with a starter of homemade cole slaw for some reason. The bar is a great place to come in off the lake for some refreshments. They do a mean burger all day and have reasonably priced drinks and a killer patio overlooking the water. Arriving here is part of the fun - Garmisch Road is one of the prettiest drives in the area as is the approach by water. The whole bay is unspoiled by development, so you'll likely see eagles and ospreys fishing while you relax. read more

This place looked amazing! Didn't stay at the resort but stopped for an afternoon drink and snack on the way back from Copper Falls. Such a beautiful place with amazing views and just such a cute place to possibly stay on our next trip up. I stumbled across this resort on the internet years ago, and we've been coming back ever since we first stayed. We've stayed in the Squid cabin (pet friendly) several times, and once in the lodge. We generally have visited in the fall/winter but once stayed in August. The Squid has its own deck next to the lake, and you can easily walk to the restaurant or lounge from one of the cabins. And the Squid does actually remind me of a place we stayed in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with the angled ceilings, bathroom skylight and some of the decor. If you hear the word cabin and cringe thinking of spiders and dirty floors, don't worry...this cabin has all the comforts of home. Coffee maker, dishes, stove, oven, microwave, toaster, full sized fridge, TV, wifi, bedding, hair dryer, towels, toiletries and more. And I've never seen spiders and dirty floors there. The lodge itself is a cozy rustic property that I would love to own. The room we stayed in had its own balcony and a fireplace. The inn's library is pretty much pulled from my concept of a dream library compete with a leather chair to tuck away in and read, and there is seating in the great room where you can play chess. For the kids, there is some playground equipment in the middle of the property. The breakfast for the lodge/cabin guests when we've stayed has consisted of a continental style set up in the lounge, with yogurt, cereals and pastries, so we generally go off property for breakfast. The property is right on Lake Namakegon, so in any season you can enjoy the view. If you're in search of a quaint getaway up north, I think Garmisch fits the bill nicely. read more

It's mind boggling that Garmisch doesn't show up on Yelp searches of this area. Kind of like Disneyland not showing up on a search of amusement parks in Anaheim California. Frankly, it makes me doubt the usefulness of Yelp in general. Having gotten that off my chest, I'll just say that if you're in this area and looking for a decent place to have dinner, Garmisch has to be on your list of possibilities. Partly because you simply don't have a lot of options up this-a-way, and the pandemic has apparently made that situation worse, as some area restaurants have either closed or sharply reduced hours. Garmisch is a bit of a throwback in time, a place steeped in history (well, as much history as we have here in the upper Midwest), with the look, and the smell of a place that's been around for a long time . . . . which it has been. It's German influenced cuisine reflects that heritage, and that's something you will either like, or not. But Garmisch is what it is, and hopefully it will continue to be that for a long time. read more

Had a fabulous time here at the resort. We stayed in Blarney Castle, and while the room was pretty dated, it was beautiful. I loved that each room had its own bathroom. The only bad thing is that they charge for towels- seems weird. I visited during the Christmas season, and everything looked beautiful with the lights! The restaurant in the Lodge... not great. Did not enjoy the food, but the service was very accommodating to our large party. The bar, on the other hand, wasn't bad at all! I'm not a bar person but had a nice time. read more

We had heard very good reviews of this restaurant and were staying at a nearby resort. When we got there we were seated where the sun was blinding both of us and as we looked around the restaurant we noticed it was blinding everybody in there because the wall was full of windows and the sun was setting and there were no shades to pull. We wound up having to sit with our back toward the view so that we would not be blinded. We came there forGerman food. There were only four or five selections on the menu. My wife picked one of them which included two pork chops, sauerkraut and one side dish. When we placed the order the waitress told us that the one side dish had an up charge of five dollars. Yetthere was no indication on the menu that that was the case. And then she insisted that we were not entitled to the one side dish because there was a mistake on the printing of the menu and it was incorrect but that's just the way it was. We said that that was misleading and we should be allowed to pick the one side dish. She had a terrible Attitude and kept insisting that the menus were expensive to re-print. She was stating it like it was our problem that there was a problem with the menu and we were refusing to understand the situation.We left it at that for a few minutes but then called her over and said we were having difficulty understanding all of this and why this was our problem. Because the menu stated you get one side dish you should get that regardless if it was a miss print on the menu or not. At that point the waitress got a tremendous attitude and said she had already explain to us it was a miss print and that that's just the way it was and so we let it go. When our food came they did in fact give us the two potato pancakes as a side dish that we had ordered that they indicated there was a five dollar up charge for. My wife mentioned the potato pancakes on her plate and the waitress instead of being gracious about it and telling us that they agreed and that they were just giving us the potato pancakes for free had a really bad attitude about it and she said well we just gave them to you. Kind of like we made a big stink about it that's why we got it rather than it was their mistake. Whatever happened to good old customer service and courtesy by the waitstaff. This place had a real attitude toward us even when we came in and asked to be seated and the restaurant was 90% empty. We wound up standing there waiting for several minutes before they made a determination which seat to put us at like as if that was rocket science. If this was a average restaurant I guess that's what you should expect. But the prices on this menu were very high with things running into the 80 and $90 range for one meal Between two meals and drinks we spent quite a bit of money there and walked out very angry and very upset with the whole experience and swore never to come back. I think that they all need to go back and reacquaint them with common courtesy and customer service and also learn that when they make a mistake on their menu it's up to them to correct it and not just blamed the customer with misleading information. read more

My favorite up-North destination! Located on the shores of Lake Namakagon for nearly 100 years, Garmisch is one of very few "old-school" lodge-style resorts that have stood the test of time. If it weren't for the Big-buck hunter game in the bar and the Cadillac Escalades in the parking lot, you'd have a hard time discerning the year. Step into the "grand room" and you'll find pictures of the resort dating back to its origins in 1926. The fireplace and the taxidermy are all still there. Although there have been some additions and remodelings, all have been in good taste and true to the original Bavarian-Chalet lodge. Garmisch offers two dining facilities: a classier dining room, or the casual Bier Stube. Our most recent visit was the first time we ever rented one of their cabins. We rented the "Geneva" with another couple and it was just perfect; extremely clean, spacious, and very well appointed. Since it was off-season, the price was greatly reduced. Best part of it was that the Geneva allows dogs; even obnoxious, stinky, ill behaved German Shepherds like mine. In the summer, there are boats and canoes to rent, a beach for swimming, and even a tennis court. Every staff member we have ever encountered has been helpful and truly friendly. For enjoying sunsets, there is no better place than the patio deck off the the dining room/bar area. Everybody has their own vision of "up north". Mine is Garmisch. read more

Disappointed with Jager Schnitzel Drinks good and generous but I went for the German food. I lived in Germany for 2 1/2 years and back several times I love the German food. I went to Garmish for the German food but very disappointed with the Jaeger Schnitzel. The cream mushroom sauce had no flavor. Tasted like warm heavy cream with 4 small slices of mushroom and NO spices. Blah. To be fair atmosphere was very pleasant and the service was excellent and the red cabbage was very good. read more

A note about the stars... I take the rating system seriously, and if this restaurant were being rated independently, I would give it 4 stars. However, compared to the other places we ate that were given 5 stars by other people's reviews, which were not as nice as this place, I gave it 5 to do it justice. By far the best meal we had in the Cable area. The food... On a recent trip to Wisconsin for a friend's wedding, we spent our last night in Cable having a lovely dinner overlooking the Lake at the Garmisch Inn. The fare is steak and seafood and a wide selection of Bavarian dishes with incredible menu pricing. (We are from the Los Angeles, so are used to paying a lot more for dinner.) He ordered and loved the Bavarian Combo which came with soup, salad, three meats (veal, knackwurst, and pork tenderloin), and sauerkraut on the side. I opted for the filet and lobster. Both meals were incredible, although mine was fairly pricey at $ 70, but it was by FAR the most expensive thing on he menu. We had to laugh though because the meal was still under $120 including wine, coffee and dessert. The service was good, the waitress was very nice. The place was clean and nice. The view of the lake was incredible. (We were there for the 4th of July fireworks too) . The Inn... We stayed at a different location, as this place was booked months before. So this perspective is from our impression being on the grounds, but not actually staying in the inn. The inn itself was very charming, well kept grounds, and looked like a great place to stay. We ate lunch here on 10/12/19 during a musky fishing tournament. We were disappointed that there wasn't any chili on the menu that day. Actually there wasn't much of a menu and everything was a little pricey. I've ate supper here before and was pleased. I'll have to remember not to stop here for lunch again. read more
