We planned a short weekend fall fishing trip up to BTR. What a great experience we had. Beautiful lake, Beautiful weather and Beautiful Resort! The cabins were very clean and comfortable. The view was outstanding. We rented a pontoon that had everything we needed (space, trolling motor and depth finder). They even have a battery charging station down by the pier for a quick hookup at days end. Dawn was very accommodating, texting me while on the lake asking if we needed anything such as gas for the motor. Not only was she very friendly but she really made us feel at home! We are already planning another trip in spring.

I see that this resort hasn't been reviewed for a while, so I thought I'd do WGR a solid and give…read morethem an up-to-date shout-out. My family of 5 visited Wild Goose during the week spanning the July 4th holiday. The owner who came by when we first arrived at the cabin was very friendly and helpful. I spoke with a few people who have been coming here for over a decade, and they told me that the owners no longer live on-site and that the pub/diner is a thing of the past. But WOW. We had a tremendous vacation here. The resort is on Round Lake: most cabins have an incredible view and are only steps away from the lake. The cabins are spacious and rustic (though they could benefit from a few updates), with well-equipped kitchens, up-to-date grills, sunrooms, and large decks. The cabin we stayed in (Canadian) had a TV with cable and Wi-Fi, though I understand that this is not the case with most of the other cabins. We also had two kayaks and a canoe, which saw a LOT of action during the week. The resort offers fishing boats to rent for the week, but we opted to fish right off the piers. We caught a ton of perch and bluegill right off the pier (as in, enough for dinner!), using nothing but worms and bobbers. (Early in the morning and late in the evening are the best times.) We SAW a musky in the reeds, but did not manage to catch any. There were several avid fisherfolk staying at the resort: we saw them coming back with loads of crappie and walleye. Be advised that Minocqua is about a 30-minute drive, so plan accordingly. You need to bring your own bath/beach towels, but bed linens and blankets are provided. Bring lots of bug spray and sunscreen. We brought our own knives and cutting board, but there was no need: the cabins and fish cleaning station have plenty of knives, including filet knives for your catch. Speaking of the fish cleaning station: I have never seen a cleaner or better-equipped one. We hardly ate out during our visit: part of that was a function of the long drive into town, but was mostly due to the fact that the kitchen was well-equipped and the grill was clean (no disgusting, greasy, rusted-out grills here!). Plus, the resort's prices for a week-long stay are very reasonable. What's not to love? We would definitely stay here again.
