Just your average pub. Clean place, cold beer. It was a little noisy though. Several teens were…read moreseated out in the front near the entrance and thought yelling, shouting and screaming at the top of their voice was appropriate. It was a bit disappointing when there were only around 15 people in the place with so much noise being generated by a handful of idiots. The bar tender/staff did nothing to quiet them down.

A SOLID ROCKIN' JOINT…read more The Fitzroy Hotel located in Windsor has been an established watering hole for locals since 1853. I wasn't around for opening day - I just know this from reading a blurb on TrueLocal.com.au. The blurb also said: "With a recent refurbishment this pub is now renowned for the live music and live entertainment acts. The bistro here serves up traditional pub food, with hamburgers and pizza to meat. There is a wide selection of beer here both imported and local." A review on that site from HeyPesto stated: "The Fitzroy is pumping on the weekends and is an awesome place for a meal, a drink and live music. Once the bands finish their is a decent DJ who plays for hours. Their steaks are highly recommended!" Pesto has pretty much summed it up. Checked out the Fitzroy one night at the end of November 2012. There were plenty of posters for past and future rock bands. Good ones too. A rockin hard core band was playing in the AC/DC tradition of Sydney. Loud and good. The singer complimented the bistro, but I didn't try the food. I've heard the steaks here are awesome. Plenty of good draft beers on tap, including a killer pale ale 2 DIE 4. No bad vibes experienced from the staff or the patrons - even with my American accent. Actually they were openly friendly. Outer Sydney can get pretty damn rough and Australia doesn't pussify the guys like they do in America. Sorry dudes, but it's true. ** Hawaii and New York exempted. I used to live down the road from here. If I still did I'd for sure be hangin' at the Fitz with cab fare in my pocket. Five stars guys - you deserve it. How's this for a first review on Yelp? Don't think I'm over-generous - check out my review of the Heritage Hotel down the road in Wilberforce.

Nothing flash but enough variety to suit most tastes & diets & the serving sizes are beyond generous. Nice deck out the back to have a drink &/or meal looking out on the trees. They have a motel style accommodation beside too but I've never used it so can't vouch for it either way.

ONE OF THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCES OF MY ENTIRE LIFE…read more This pub has management issues - as in apparently no management and the staff running amok. Our visit was on or about November 29, 2012. I'm pretty sure it was a Thursday. Didn't know if Australia had Yelp at the time. We wanted to go there for the $10 rump steak dinner. First of all, my mother was told a different closing time than when I called. We didn't know the other one had called also. Don't they know when they close? YES THEY DO. When we met up at the bistro, I ordered a rump steak dinner for myself, my mother and my son. The chubby blonde lady working the bistro said it was $35 total (in OZ tax is included). I sensed her "attitude" but didn't want to ruin our dinner by calling her on her BS in that $10 X 3 does not equal $35. That would mean each steak dinner costs $11.66. But the sign out front says $10 rump steak (and tax is included). I describe her as a "chubby blonde" not to comment on her weight, but to identify her in light of the serious issues. She wasn't that overweight. I had an important phone call to make and didn't want to upset myself. I just considered the $5 as a tip for the staff. No hesitation from her whatsoever, and little doubt the extra $5 went into her pocket. She heard my American accent, thought I was a tourist, and presumed I didn't know what the hell is going on in Australia. She didn't know I was from there. This hotel is right next to Australian Pioneer Village, so they probably get a lot of tourist traffic. There was a table of local guys getting drunk and loudly swearing up a storm. Whatever. This is semi-rural Australia so it was not so unusual. A manager ought to quiet them down some, but there was apparently no manager around. But this next part takes the cake! Two in our party had finished eating, but I was still finishing up. While I was obviously still eating, the same blonde lady comes over and throws a used serviette / napkin on my unfinished plate while I'm sitting there with my knife and fork still in my hand. She then picks up the three plates and goes off to the kitchen. OUTRAGEOUS. Never have I experienced something like this in my entire life. Obviously she didn't have the patience to come back in just a couple of minutes. Too lazy to want to want to walk back a second time, also. I was so flabergasted I did not say a word because for sure it would have made a nasty scene because I have no doubt whatsoever this b@tch would have mouthed back at me. I WOULD HAVE GONE OFF, make no mistake about it. So there you have it, Yelp is ramping up in Australia and the Heritage Hotel has its first review as a big fat negative. Well-deserved I might add. BTW, when is Yelp going to grace us with a zero star option, instead of one star being the lowest?
