The nearest lodging, if you fly in, is across the street from the airport at Birds Nest Resort. The resort and the airport both rent golf carts, which are the only way to get around the island other than taxi. I highly recommend this resort. The owner--Ed--Ed is a long time resident and very congenial, along with his entire staff! I highly recommend this resort which has cabins and duplex cabins surrounding a large swimming pool. The room was Very clean; beds were comfortable; the large fridge & microwave was perfect for us; pool was clean; nice location, close enough to town to enjoy the fun, but leave the excitement behind and relax in a place with couples and families. Keurig coffee at the office is so nice. Very happy to have this option! (I have traveled alot and stayed in everything from tents to the 5 star hotels. I'm very sorry to be writing this negative review about the Birds Nest. All of you can see that I had submitted a Very positive review in 2018 (below). Since that time, my fiancé and I have stayed at the birds nest on three other occasions, the first 2 of which were great! However, we went again on the weekend of August 2, 2024, and - well, upon entering unit #9, we smelled a strong odor of urine in the bathroom - especially when we opened the sink cabinet. Apparently, someone thought it would be funny to take a leak in there and let it soak into the wood. And there was no getting away from it! Besides that, we realized that the shower wasn't working right. The water was ice cold, but then if you turned the dial just a little, it would become far too hot! We played around with it for a while but could not get it to a decent medium temperature. By this time, the office was closed so I sent an email to the manager, Angela, and let her know that I will come to the office in the morning and hope to either switch units or have these issues dealt with somehow. When I arrived in the morning, Angela was not there but I was greeted by a nice guy who was communicating with her. I was told that housekeeping staff will address the urine odor, and a maintenance person will check out the shower. I also received a nice email from Angela herself, so it felt as though things would be handled OK. With that, my fiancé & I left the unit for atleast 4 hours and enjoyed the island. When we came back that afternoon, we walked into the same experience: the urine odor and same issue with the shower. By then, the office was closed, so we just had to live with these issues for the remainder of the weekend. I sent another email to Angela, but there has been no response to this day, and not even a partial refund. The true disappointment is, this resort used to be a great place when Angela was in the office more and cared to handle things first-hand. It has obviously gone downhill since she has chosen to take the backseat. And apparently, when guests have issues like these, she sends one nice "Let me see what I can do" e-mail but then just lets the chips fall where they may & goes silent, instead of ensuring that guests will return in the future. Bottom line: You may want to look elsewhere to stay on the island. But if you do stay at this place, be prepared for zero help if the shower doesn't work and/or you have to smell piss all weekend, or something else goes wrong. :/ -------- RESPONSE TO OWNERS REPLY: Angie, the bigger problem is, not only were these issues Not addressed during our weekend, but also, when I had requested atleast a 'partial' refund, I received no response. This tells me and your other guests "If you have a problem here, oh well, tough s**t". And, by the way, Angie, I am especially disappointed because I was one of your earlier and bigger fans of this property, years ago. Used to love staying here, but ever since you decided to take a backseat and let others manage this place, it has quickly gone downhill. Shameful. read more

Room smelled of cigarettes and Lysol. Absolutely unacceptable and they didn't tell us beforehand tt was a room for smokers. They did not give us our money back. We left 1 hour after checking in, we did not stay the night. Terrible! read more

It was just "okay" in my opinion. Room was not ready at check in, which was supposed to be 4. At 6 PM, still not ready. Slightly annoying. We had several rooms plus the two bedroom cottage. The cottage we had did not have adequate silverware. Three forks? For 6? Okay We did ask for the missing forks and they provided a couple plastic ones. We wanted to use the gas grill by the covered party area with picnic tables but most of the burners would not come on. Screen was ripped 1/2 way off the screen door and hanging on our unit, as was other cottages as well. Not sure why there's no attempt to fix the screens, because with the mayflies it was quite annoying. No discount on golf carts for guests, which I found odd. Better prices on carts at Erie Carts for overnight. All of that being said, it is one of the only descent places that are pet-friendly on Put in Bay that I've found, and it's pretty clean overall. It is super quiet at night. Ice cold air in the bedrooms was much appreciated. Pool looked nice, but too cold to use while we were there (not their fault). I'm sort of on the fence with this one. Owners are very friendly. Just left me wanting just a little bit more for what we spent. read more

Amazing stay. Clean, safe, chill and great location. From the beautiful color of the cottages to the birds chirping and flying around everyone and everything was perfect. While I did not swim I walked around the pool and saw others swim. Great option for next time. Yes there will be a next time. Location is about midway between miller's ferry dock and main strip. It wasn't the best place but it wasn't the worst place either. We had WiFi and a little mini kitchen. The front porch was cute. It says on the website that it was like a 70's Summer camp and that's exactly what it felt like. The shower would be my only complaint. Omg. It was like walking into a hurricane and no matter what we did the floor outside of the shower was soaked!! They need to fix this. If i had stayed any longer than one night I wouldve asked to be moved because of that shower. I'd stay again though! Minus the shower. read more

I shared a motel room with a friend here last weekend for a wedding. The place was clean enough, but for what we paid ($176 with taxes per night), the size of our motel room and bathroom left quite a lot to be desired. The queen-sized bed took up literally (I mean literally) more than 90% of the floor space in the room and the bathroom was tiny. All amenities (shelves, coat rack, night ledges (not stands), sink/faucet, shower, blankets, sheets, and carpet) seemed to be manufactured in the 70s and not really kept up. All of this could have been completely acceptable if the price wasn't so high. I've stayed at many cottages, cabins, motels and hotels over the years in places more sought after than Put-In-Bay, and paid substantially less for substantially nicer digs. No disrespect meant to PIB or PIB-goers, but let's face it, it's not Cape Cod. I do not recommend staying here. read more

My son and I planned to enjoy a couple of days on the island, so I researched several places to stay, and ended up choosing the Bird's Nest Resort. We stayed there on 6/19/2018 and 6/20/2018. This spot ended up being a very good choice, and I would definitely stay there again. Our cottage included a king bed, microwave, TV with cable, mini-fridge, a good-sized bathroom, an AC unit on the wall.... The cottage door has a code lock, so you don't have to carry a key around & worry about losing it. Nice touch! The room appeared to be very clean, and we didn't find anything unpleasant during our stay. There is a swimming pool on the grounds, though my son and I didn't use it, it's always a good option to have. Also, I really like the location of this property. It is very close to the Miller Ferry dock, which made it easy for us to get ourselves & our bags to the room once we got off the boat. And, this place isn't very far from the main strip, but just far enough to offer peace and quiet when you want a break from the usual crowds and noise in town. This resort seems ideal for a family getaway, opposed to a spot for party-goers. You know, there are plenty of places on the island where partiers can stay & make all the noise they want at all hours. The peacefulness of The Birds Nest is just what I wanted while planning this trip. I also have to give props to the owner/manager, Angie, who was very professional and pleasant to work with, from start to finish! And, I thought this was interesting.... At one point, I stopped by the office to ask a question, and I mentioned how my son and I were really enjoying our stay there. Angie then told us how she and her husband had been upgrading the property during the last couple of years, and have made a lot of improvements. She explained how this property was in need of some "TLC", and they have been surprised to see how their efforts have greatly improved things. Angie is obviously proud of this spot, and it shows in the way she manages it & treats guests. Very impressive! We only stayed here 1 night thankfully. The room was so tiny 2 full beds left only enough space to carry in our bags. The bathroom was even smaller especially the shower and the floor sank down when walked on. Air cond. was window and old and noisy. Nowhere to put anything. Beer cans under the porch. I don't typically write reviews but this establishment deserves to be noticed. The owners have put in a tremendous amount of work to improve the grounds and guest rooms. The rates are VERY affordable, staff is friendly and accommodating, and the rooms are clean and get the job done. We stayed here for my bachelorette party and all the ladies had nothing but nice things to say. We especially loved the pool and tiki bar. I would definitely recommend the Bird's Nest to friends, family, and all those yelpers out there. read more

Wish there was a "0" rating! Choose this "resort" only if desperate. Somewhat clean but HORRIBLE, cheap/old accommodations . King bed took up 90% of floor space. No side bed table. No lamps. No table& chair indoors. No coffee maker. No wifi. $154 including tax. Maybe worth $50. We should have airbnb' a room for that amount. Depressing place. Curtain rod literally falling off the wall. I have photo. Ceiling fan light flickered. Air conditioner dripped water all over my bags. Middle of night Power surges effected all electric items. I would NEVER return and NEVER recommend.
