I'm sorry to say that i will not be returning to this store. I have tried twice in the past year and the service is mediocre, and the selection is terrible. The reason I go to comfortable shoe stores is because I have large feet, wide feet, plantar fasciitis, and bunions. If I knew what brands and sizes were going to fit me, I'd order online. The problem is that ordering online often leads to frustration because of all the returns I have to do. I got there as soon as they opened one Saturday morning. I was the only customer in the store. It was not busy. I thought coming in to a small store with an actual service associate might introduce me to brands I hadn't tried, as well as illuminating me as to what felt good and fit. No. This is the kind of place where if you say "I'm a 10 and a half wide, and I like these plain black ones because I want to wear them to the office" they will come back out and say "we didn't have your size but here's a 9 narrow in brown with rhinestones." They actually have very few wide options at all. I guess they're used to customers who are not informed, but let me just say I am an elder millennial who has struggled with finding shoes since I was in middle school (so umm for 28 years). This isn't my first rodeo. I have the internet. I do my research. I also realize that the shoes that I will be comfortable in all day long are going to cost me over $100 a pair; I get that and I am prepared. But I felt like the rep was not interested in making a sale. At the tail end of my visit I decided I felt bad for wasting any of the rep's time (why? not sure), so I decided I'd grab a pair of the Birkenstock Eva Arizonas in black since I wore my last pair out and was due for a replacement. The manager of the store was extremely rude & acted like she was irritated about everything. She was very sassy also. She obviously didn't want to be there! I have worked in retail for years & she needs to reassess her attitude towards her customers. Will NEVER return to this store. Also, none of the birk sandals were in stock in 41 & I had to settle for a color that I didn't really want but I needed new ones. read more

I've only been here once, but I have no complaints from that experience. I went at the beginning of the summer looking for a pair of comfortable sandals that don't look like Grandma would wear them (no offense to Grandma's). I was impressed with how many styles and brands they are able to carry. I tried on every single pair of decent looking sandals they had, and not once did I get attitude. The two people working there were very helpful. In fact, they led me to a narrow in the sandals I liked, which I never would have considered. Yes, the shoes are expensive but these type of shoes are expensive everywhere! Sometimes, for the sake of your comfort, you just have to shell out the money. read more

I went in to this small store for the first time planning to purchase at least one pair of birkenstocks. There were 2 workers and maybe 3 other customers. The 2 workers were behind the register desk talking with one customer. I was there for a good 10 minutes, picked up a couple of options to try on. Not one word of welcome, not one acknowledgement, not one offer to assist me and not one word as I walked out. Under new management, and the difference is readily apparent. I had been being casual shoes at places like Target for years, for around $30 each. They are fine for about a month, but the lack of support shows up pretty quickly and by the fourth month, the support and comfort are fading. Contrast this to the pair I got from Birkenstock Feet First, still going strong six months in, feel great and look great. They cost more than Target, but the higher quality not only means they'll last longer, I'll have better support over the time period even if the money winds up just evening out. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Yes, they are a small store but if you have foot issues to any extent, this is the place to go. They don't upsell you a pair of shoes you don't need, and they are not pushy. I will definitely continue to purchase shoes from Birkenstock Feet First. read more

I admit I was insecure when I entered this shoe store--it's been years since I'd bought a pair of fancy shoes, but had to have them for my daughter's wedding. Brendan helped me and I swear he pulled out every shoe in the whole store---but never was he impatient. On the contrary, he was full of cheer and helpfulness and made me feel very comforted in the process. Only I chose the wrong shoes for me and after trying to adjust to high heels after decades found my legs ached and weren't happy. Unfortunately I'd lost my receipt, my cat had chewed up the shoe box (I know it sounds like a homework excuse) and I called the store very apologetic and assumed they probably wouldn't be able to do much for me. Not so!!! The friendly sales person put me in touch with the manager, Jennifer Boies and I had to confess that I gave her an even harder job for I wasn't sure when I'd bought my shoes. She was going through all the receipts on the dates I thought I might have shopped when I realized I had a picture and could at least get her the correct date. She was so sweet and praised me for finding that made me feel like not so much the fool. When I arrived at the store she had: 1. found a new box to fit them and 2. had the reciept all printed out and ready. I was blown away at that, but was equally thrilled by the attentiveness she showed me and the counsel she gave me about which shoes would be the most supportive...I left feeling so grateful! I know the store is under new management and wonder if some of these old reviews are from the past management because I really don't feel they fit the experience I had. I had wonderful service, was pleased with the many choices and would definitely go back--so glad we have this resource and such kind people running this store now! read more

I ordered a pair of shoes, as the shop didn't have my color in stock. I was required to pay upfront for them. A month passed and I went in to check, and they hadn't come in yet. I went back yesterday to ask for my money back, as another week and a half had passed. The store manager was most unpleasant and outright hostile to me. He told me there would be a $25 charge to cancel the order, even though the shoes were out of stock and he couldn't tell me when they would arrive. He insisted I had been told this, which I had not-he was the one who took my order in the first place and I remembered him. This policy was not on the credit card slip. There was no apology, no effort to give a store credit for the $25, etc., no interest whatsoever in making it right. Another customer remarked to me on his rudeness. I asked for the name of the owner and he refused to give it to me. This was the most unpleasant experience I have ever had in a retail store, hands down. read more

I purchased a pair of Yara Birkenstock shoes today. My sales person was kind and knowledgeable. She wasn't supper pleasant or unpleasant. She was willing to order any shoe I needed and gave me options and expected arrival. I went to the same store years ago and felt like the service was not great and sales rep. were skeptical as to who can or can not afford shoes in this type of store. I can tell it's under new management. My only suggestion is to be more encouraging. People who have not had to spend money on shoes are reluctant. Once you get them to try on a pair or two you will have new customers. Be patient! read more

I am a teacher in need of great support shoes during the school year so I was excited to find a Birkenstock store so close to me. I visited this store twice thinking that service would be different the second time around. I couldn't believe how rude both workers were. I was never acknowledged for even being in the store for as long as I was. Another customer walked in 10 minutes after I did and a sales clerk immediately appeared. I am not going to say these this store fosters racist practices but this is definitely how I perceived my first few experiences. When both of us (customers) were in the store I couldn't even tell if she was talking to me or the other customer since she would hardly even look at me. I received the most unpleasant customer service I have ever received. I am from Greensboro and am in school at UNC. I was home and went to the Friendly Center Birkenstock looking for a new pair of sandals, but they did not have my size. The sales associate offered to call another store to see if they had my size in stock. I was glad to know that she could check Chapel Hill. I heard her call and ask if they had a size 38 in the sandal I wanted and was told they did and they would hold for me on Sunday afternoon. When I arrived at the store I and gave my name the shoes were all but thrown at me. There was no offer to help to try them on. They were too big and were actually size 39 instead of 38. I questioned this and was told that size 39 was what she was told to hold-which is wrong. I then asked for a smaller size and it was brought to me to try. I was getting ready to try them on, but was told I had to move because someone else was being waited on where I was sitting. I moved and tried them on, still with no offer to help. I was not happy with how they felt and not at all with how I was treated, so I left and will not be back. I also will make sure that others at UNC know what poor service is provided at this location. Seriously my favorite place for shoe shopping. I'm 21 and had no idea what I was doing to my feet until I found my way in here. This place is filled to the brim with stylish shoes that are also comfortable. Definitely my new go to for all occasions. The first time I came in, the store manager, Rodney, was amazing. I was greeted quickly and helped to find the perfect shoes for my feet. We talked about some of the problems I was having and he directed me to my new all time favorite, Danksos. He really made my visit to the store feel personal. Nothing better than some good ole' southern hospitality! I now find myself regularly checking back to see the new styles they have stocked. I went to this store with a coworker of a different race. She was asked 3 times if she needed assistance while I kept asking for help. Another parent and child of another race came in and they were neglected as well. The couple behind them was the same race as my coworker and they were immediately asked if assistance was needed. I even said excuse me 3 times and was still ignored. Chapel Hill is such a diverse and accepting community. It is sad to have to experience this in such a beautiful community. read more
