The instructors, Erica and Ben (I believe, please correct me if I have the names wrong), were fun, encouraging, and incredibly helpful. Unlike a typical "paint and sip" class, the instructors demonstrate a few techniques and then it's basically just a free paint time while they come around offering help if needed. They offer helpful tips for tackling some of the trickier details, like eyes, fur texture, shading, and color mixing. I also love that you can choose your canvas size, with pricing based on the size you select. They even offer a wood canvas option if you're looking for something a little different. You're welcome to bring one sealed bottle of wine per person, and many people also brought snacks. If you prefer, beverages are available for purchase at the studio as well. A few days before class, you'll email them a photo of your pet. I had so many favorites that I sent three different pictures! They chose the one that would translate best into a painting and be the easiest to sketch. When you arrive, your canvas is already prepared with a hand drawn outline of your pet, along with the printed reference photo you submitted. After a brief introduction and some painting tips, you're given your paint colors and get to work. Throughout the class, the instructors walk around offering one-on-one guidance, and they were amazing. I struggled with areas like the eyes and mouth and felt my painting looked a little flat at first. After the instructors spent a few minutes helping me, everything started to come together, and by the end of class it truly looked like my sweet little boy. I was amazed by the transformation. One of my favorite memories was bringing my mom to a class. She had lost her beloved dog, Bailey, just a few months earlier. At one point she became discouraged and almost gave up on her painting, but the instructors were so kind and patient. They took the time to help her, and by the end of class she was overwhelmed with emotion. The finished painting brought tears to her eyes, and it became such a healing, cathartic experience for her. To this day, she tells me that every time she walks past Bailey's portrait, she blows her a kiss. I later returned with a couple of friends, and the following year one of them lost her sweet boy. She told me how grateful she was to have shared this experience and to have that beautiful painting to remember him by. I truly cherish the paintings of my boys and am so thankful for the wonderful experiences I've had here. This class creates so much more than a painting, it creates a lasting memory of the pets we love so deeply. I can't recommend it enough, and I sincerely hope they continue offering it for years to come. If you've been thinking about taking this class, do it. It's absolutely worth it I promise!

My friend's kiddo was a good age, around 3/4 to get what she was doing and appreciate it. Made reservations online since the website said it was recommended. I'm glad I did! Making reservations was very simple, didn't have to put any money down. Parking can be a little congested since it's in a plaza with other places. Walked in and was immediately greeted. Inside is really cool. The theme is all black and white, looks kind of like a cartoonish vibe, and then all of the crafts speak for themselves with colors! There was a birthday party going on in the back. No private rooms for birthday parties. They use different color cones to show your reservation and where you'll be sitting. Was told to look around the store and decide which type of craft we wanted to do. They had a lot of mediums: candles, bead bracelets, painting, mosaics, and decorating different objects with whipped cream gel and adding charms. The last one was definitely the most popular and most unique. Once you pick out your items, you go to the cashier and can either pay ahead of time or wait to pay in case you want to create something more than what you expected. We were told once we pick what we wanted to let staff know and they will tell us next steps. My daughter went with a small brush and we were then given a tray to pick out the charms that we wanted to decorate our brush. There were so many charms! All of them were included in the price but a few were only allowed to use one time once since it was a bigger charm. We were told to only pick out a few charms and can come back for more. Staff said whatever we don't use charm wise, to be sure to put it back where you got it. Unfortunately, there was so many charms, and with how busy and chaotic it was, it was really hard to put them all back. I would definitely recommend only grabbing so many. We were told you get to pick two different whipped cream gel colors. The gel when dry turns into a silicone like texture. When we were done picking our charms and gel, to let them know and they would come back to tell us how to apply and use the whipped cream gels. Unfortunately, two big parties came in and staff had no time for us anymore. We were pretty much on our own. Just winging it, which was a shame when you're spending $25 on a tiny little hairbrush to decorate and have no idea what you're doing. I think it would be better of staff to all at once just tell you what to do along with a demo how it all works rather than constantly having different touch points throughout. My friend and I winged it as much as we could. I definitely don't think we did it right. I noticed a sign that had different pipping tips for the whipped cream gel, again, a bummer we weren't told about this. The charms and beads are all along the wall and right up against the walkway and tables. So it was pretty difficult for people to try to spend time to look at all the charms, but also letting people by and also people are trying to sit in their chairs. Staff then came over and was great with apologizing for us falling to the wayside due to understaffing and the immense parties that came in. Kelly was very sweet and kind and took her time with us and taught us how to reapply the charms if we wanted to. Along with how to use the whipped cream gel. You then have to take a heat gun and dry your creation for about two minutes, but the longer you do it the better it seemed. Be sure to let your creation sit for 24-48 days to really cure. There is a bathroom that single stall in the back. We were bummed that the Photo Booth machine was down, otherwise we would've used it. When you cash out, you're supposed to turn in the receipt to show what you made. Kelly then put our items in a bag and again apologized for our experience and said coming on the weekday is a much better visit. Our reservations were at four, and we didn't think that it would be so busy, so use caution if booking on the weekends. A very cool unique craft place, that I'm sure can sustain itself with the area that it's in. We'll have to come back on a quieter day to really enjoy all that they have to offer. I would've given a 3 star, but if it wasn't for Kelly, taking the extra time with us and apologizing for our initial experience. She made the whole trip much better!

This is a small, but nice art gallery and much needed on this side of town. It's in a historic…read morelooking building with a grand set of stairs leading up to a front door... that sadly isn't in use. The entrance is to the side off the parking lot in a sleek modern addition. Fortunately, the stylistic mash up works better than, say Soldier Field. Anton Art Center looks old timey from the front, futuristic from the back, and maybe awkward from one of the two side views, but it's not terrible or anything. There's two galleries, on the first and second floor, with a little skylight in the middle of the upper gallery. A little gift shop with handmade wares from local artists is just up the first flight of stairs, adjacent to the lower gallery. I've seen a few exhibits here and they're often a mixed bag. They seem to like landscapes a lot. It's usually paintings, though I've seen photography, too, and there's often sculptures on risers in the middle of the galleries. I want to say once a year they have a student exhibition and it's fun to see what young minds and hands have put together. On my latest trip to Anton Art Center I only perused the upper gallery, as the lower gallery had work still sitting on the floor, waiting to be hung. I'm on their email list and I would have known this if I read it, but I was in the neighborhood and decided to pop in. At any rate, there was some really striking paintings of street scenes with pieces of stained glass collaged in that really piqued my interest. I'll have to go back and see them properly displayed. There's usually at least 3 or 4 pieces here that really catch my eye and make me really ponder and examine them, a bunch that are solid but nothing spectacular and a handful that I quietly groan at for being hoaky arts and crafts stuff old ladies might buy at art fairs. But, y'know, not everyone can be art snobs and stuff like that has a right to find it's way to it's intended audience. This is the capitol of Macomb County after all. I wouldn't go too far out of my way to pay a visit to AAC, but once every few months when I know there's new work to see, it's interesting to drop in if I'm in this neck of the woods when they're open. Oh, yeah, bring some change. You'll need to feed the meters in the garangtuan, usually sparsely filled city parking lot AAC sits on the edge of. There's a few nearby restaurants you can walk to when you're there if you're not afraid of a little exercise.

When I used it to reserve my "free" session (because I was using the gift card), it would not let me complete the reservation without entering credit card information. I thought it was in case the gift card was invalid or something. Well, PWaT deducted the $40 from my bank account, and the gift card was never applied (FYI: I did type in the # and click "Apply"). It was not reversible because I came to the session (and let the instructor know). So, if you have this issue, report it to the studio right away *and the Better Business Bureau*. Just in case this becomes a bigger issue.
