It's a venue for small to medium sized special events. It's across the street from the art museum so it's easy to amble over and check out. When I stopped by they were renovating, it's over 110 years old so this sort of thing must happen every now and then. Well worth the voluntary donation even though it was mostly closed off. Depending on your vision, you might want to bring binoculars to look at the higher parts of the exterior architecture and be careful if you are backpedaling to get a better view. In addition to an active workshop, the building houses a gift shop with lots of wonderful ceramic pieces and a small museum, which details the history of Pewabic Pottery. It's a unique piece of Detroit history and a great place to buy gifts for yourself and others. It's well worth a visit to this hidden gem.

The upstairs gallery was closed when we were there, so we just browsed the shop, which is full of all sorts of beautiful ceramic items like tiles, vases, art, and more. I liked seeing all the different pieces but nothing really shouted out to me. The animal tiles were probably my favorite. I also liked the house number tiles. They also had other non-ceramic items for sale, like earrings, puzzles, calendars, cards, etc. It is a nice place to find gifts! They also do classes and workshops, which sound fun! This isn't a spot that I need to visit every time I'm in the area, but it was fun to finally check out.

The staff is constantly amazing me with their hospitality, I've met four employees so far and they are all shining stars. The four legged ones have great opinions of the art. And the roomba is not a character to be overlooked, the floors are spotless! The gallery manager is well versed and easy to communicate with, often going above and beyond for the artists that he works with. 10/10 guy, you should ask him about the bean. This is THE place to go for contemporary art in the city.

A pile of junk or art? The answers isn't the eye of the beholder…read more My take... someone has a passion here and is trying to do something. I did see some junk but I also saw that someone has taken the junk and madenit into art installations which I enjoyed looking at and trying to interpret. I would suggest getting out of the car and walking around. 2 odd things that occurred while visiting: 1. 3 cats circled the car in front of us and refused to move. The driver had to get out of the car and physically move them. They were not afraid of people. 2. A woman was walking around the project wearing a picture frame around her neck like it wasn't odd... It's something to experience.
