The club has pluses and minuses. The locker rooms are clean and there is a family locker room as well as a men's and women's locker room. The staff cleaning up and washing towels are friendly and efficient. The front desk staff is friendly. There is for the most part an adequate number of gym equipment. You usually don't have to wait too long for equipment. There are some patrons who seem to spend their entire day at this club socializing while pretending to work out. That's all well and good but they "reserve" equipment for each other and feel entitled to simultaneously monopolize multiple machines. If you just use the "reserved" equipment you get an earful and then they speak heatedly to each other in a foreign language (Russian?). The tennis and racquet ball courts could use some work. It is difficult to reserve a court as people block courts from reservation. The basketball court is great, good luck though on ever getting to use it. The swimming pool is nice but way too small for the number of members (6 lanes). The club has a reservation system where you register for a lap lanes via a phone app. Good luck getting a lane. The club blocks reservation of lanes for several hours each day. When you show up to see why the pool is "full" the entire pool is empty. They apparently block hours of time just in case their day camp participants want to swim during those times. It is most odd as they only ever let the day camp participants in the shallow end of lap lanes 1-3, but they block lanes 4-6 from paying club members. They aren't very smart about classifying lane usage. Instead of saying something like lanes 4-6 are for lap swimming only, and lanes 1-3 are for general exercising and jogging, there is no use classification As a result there are little old ladies who can't swim a stroke reserving a lap lane for 45 minutes and using exactly 4 feet of the lane to hang on the pool wall stretch and socialize. Clearly 10-20 old ladies could simultaneously hold onto the walls of lanes 1 and 6 (the outside lanes) and free up lanes 2-5 for lap swimmers. The water aerobics classes are unwelcoming to men. They are primarily geared towards 70-80 year old women. IDK but I want to work out, not hear discussions of men's fine or not so fine bodies by the instructor and her buddies. There aren't dumbbells water suitable for men. Well there is one set of dumbbells that have enough for resistance men but those are reserved for the instructor. There is a good instructor on Saturday morning and Sunday morning that focuses on form and movement and is more inclusive towards men. Beware about registering for classes you will find random $5 charges to your credit card claiming you didn't show up to a class. As a result people stopped registering for classes and just show up. At times 50 people will show up, other times 5 people show up. The whole point of limiting the class size to 25 is defeated by the club randomly charging $5. Nice. There are a number of classes like Pilates, Yoga, Spin, Weight lifting , they are hit and miss with instructor quality. Some excellent, some average. They have the same registration issues as the water aerobics classes do. Most of the club members are friendly and helpful, but there is definitely a crowd of entitled members that you learn to work around. One dude thinks a certain shower stall is his and a certain locker is his, everyone learns and works around him. Lastly many long-term members have had difficulty cancelling their memberships. Apparently unbeknowst to them every year that ticks by they are locked into a new 12 month obligation and it always seems to have just "renewed" right before they want to cancel. They end up getting a $1800 cancellation fee as they are leaving to enter a nursing home. Also seems to be a secret $40 a month membership fee if you are 80+. But unless you know to ask they will continue to bill you $150 a month. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with this gym. After becoming injured, I repeatedly attempted to cancel my membership but was told I could not. Despite my efforts to cancel, my membership was renewed and I continued to be charged. I was also contacted on a personal phone number by a representative regarding my account, which I found unprofessional. Throughout the process, I felt my concerns were ignored and I was not provided with a reasonable way to end my membership despite my circumstances. As a result, I ended up facing significant financial hardship and ongoing billing issues. Speaking with the owner was even more discouraging--the conversation ended in a way that felt threatening regarding payment. Despite only attending four times, I ended up paying over $6,000. The owner and manager are extremely rude. Be very careful with your credit card. They will charge your card without authorization. Don't leave a card on file if you can avoid it. Very difficult to get pool time and the pool area is not very clean. Watch signing a contract because They will charge you fees and harass you if you leave, no matter the reason. The contract is for one year they will tell you when you sign it, but they will automatically renew it and if you try to leave, they will demand an exit fee. The owner has a relative who is an attorney who will bombard you with harassing phone calls. Look at all the bad reviews for this place. read more

This club is a huge disappointment. Our number one reason for joining was to have tennis courts during winter but the courts fill up fast and it costs $15 EXTRA just to use them. If you get in at a time when everyone is basically working than it's $5 extra but why is it anything extra? We pay almost $200 a month already. The gym area is a joke. The equipment (besides cardio machines) are mostly broken or very old. There are not enough machines and they have a deal for high school kids which means that the tiny tiny gym is always flooded with teenage boys. The teenagers are loud, congregate at machines for hours, and are obnoxious. I paid for an elite gym to not have to deal with that business. I complained about it twice but clearly they don't know what to do about it. The staff for the most part are very nice. Some people at the front are not as trained as perhaps they should be but personal trainers and teachers are all very pleasant. They are the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of 1. They work with a physical therapy clinic too that is terrible. I tried to work with them and ended up switching out of it fast. We signed up for a year and as soon as our year is up we will be changing to a new gym. read more

Our primary reasons for joining included the kids club and pool. Of course with the benefit we could utilize the awesome workout facilities while kids played. The reality is kids club is shown as a great big play area, but the areas are only open one at a time. SO- if you think your older (10/11 yr old) will enjoy simultaneously as your younger kids (6/7) you will be disappointed. And if you show up after the jumpy room closes, they probably won't get back in there. The pool was another HUGE disappointment. The air inside is a thing I was willing to ignore until I went in the pool with my kids. It's almost as toxic as the water due to the overwhelming and overused chemicals. Sandra at membership will assure you it's never overbooked, that's bc you'll feel absolutely sick for the rest of the day after spending any real time in that thing. Fitness equipment is great, towels are old and due for replacement but are fine. Staff is so nice. Tennis courts are perpetually full. There's no trial period and annual contract, so beware, they'll get ya even if you've only survived membership a short time. read more

Sure the work out equipment is nice but it is not as new or as CLEAN as something you would find at Planet Fitness. The showers and sinks are constantly filled with hair and the steam room does not get cleaned (I've tested it out and saw the same piece of hair stuck to the wall for 3 days in a row). Classes are nice and instructors are friendly but these classes would be all the more better if the rooms they take place in were vacuumed. It costs $120/month for a single membership but it does not include any of the "perks" like tennis courts or the Pilates Reformer. Ownership of this club is an absolute joke. For a month to month contract, it's costing me almost $600 to cancel because I am being transferred out of state for my job... ($557.50 to be exact). Like many other comments on here, after parting ways after 4 years of being a member; I was treated incredibly poorly. Owner Steven Satovsky essentially tried to extort me for $800 2 years after leaving my "month to month contract" at BHC. Not only did he try to wrongfully claim these "unpaid membership fees" but he also insulted me personally MULTIPLE times in our email correspondence. I have never been spoken to that way from any establishment... I know have to get an attorney involved to avoid collections. Its such a shame it had to come to this. Almost any reasonable establishment would have accepted fault where it was obvious and moved past this. Steve Satovsky has been unprofessional and is obviously very money hungry. don't ever expect to be able to play basketball, the courts are always closed for no reason. they spent money a couple years ago to redo the court and they never let you use it. the pool is always closed for water aerobics, the tennis courts are always booked, the gym equipment is worse than planet fitness, the cafe is closed most of the time and they charge $100+ per month. the parking lot is full of tahoe moms who don't know how to park. this place is a rip off and I will be changing gyms after the year contract is up. read more

I really like this club. It's always clean, which is a biggie. They also have nice equipment for cardio and strength training. I really like their new treadmills--they're sturdy and easy to use. Love love the kiddo swimming lessons instructors. Teacher Meggan is wonderful, and the head of the swim lessons program, Tony, is as well. They are great with kids and tailor the lessons for each kiddo. Highly recommended. I wish they had more Step class time offerings. But maybe Other classes are just becoming more popular and I'm old fashioned. :) read more

I have been a member of powerhouse gym, Lifetime Fitness (Rochester Hills and Bloomfield), planet fitness and now this club. Now, planet fitness is of course no competition for these gyms so I will leave it out of the comparison (planet fitness heaviest weight is 50 lbs and there are no group classes). Powerhouse gym is small but very clean and nice. Their group classes are decent, albeit limited and they have no pool, daycare or tennis courts. If you don't care about these things, this is a great option. Lifetime Fitness is great in Rochester but it is even better in Bloomfield. This club has everything you could ask for, a pool, daycare, kids activities, group classes, the cafe, tennis courts, sauna, steam room and hot tub. I would definitely rejoin if I didnt mind that it is a 15 min drive for me. Beverly Hills Club is a great option (also closer). It offers great group classes, a pool, steam room, tennis courts and child care. There is also a cafe but it always seems to be closed and there is no sauna (only steam room). If I compare Lifetime (bloomfield) to BHC, they are very similar and BHC is slightly cheaper (not by much). To recap: - Lifetime fitness (bloomfield): has kid's classes, a cafe, a sauna, better locker rooms (at BHC club you have to bring your own lock), and heated yoga (if you care about that). - BHC: lacks the things mentioned above but the ambient feels more familiar, also a clear advantage is the slightly cheaper price and you can take your kids to the child care 2X day 1.5 hours (3 hour per day). Lifetime fitness has a maximum of 2.5 hours. - Lifetime fitness grants their members 2 guest passes per month and the guest can take advantage of the kid's classes. - BHC grants no passes, they have to be bought by $25 and the guests cannot use the child care. As you can see BHC is still a great option, but in order to be competitive for the price, they should at least add some guest passes and reopen their cafe so that they are an attractive option for more people. read more

Everyday at around 12pm a bus load of teenagers takeover the gym and make it so you literally cannot use any of the weights. I've complained to management several times and they don't really seem to care. Save your money and go to Planet Fitness. read more

I love this club. I joined after I had my third child to get back into shape. I started taking him when he was an infant and he is now almost 4. He loves to go - which makes working out so much easier for me - less guilt because I know he is having fun. The ladies who work in the child care are so wonderful. The club has everything I need - classes, a pool, clean showers, towels. It's a home away from home. I loved going there so much that I started to teach fitness classes at the BHC. I've made a lot of friends at this gym and I will be a member for many years to come. read more

This place is absolutely better than most large-scale commercial gym. It is kept clean and well-maintained; workers are great as well. Complimentary towels and coffee/tea with some nice sugar free syrups. They have all the equipment and facilities you need, whether you are strength-training, swimming, playing tennis or basketball, or studio classes. It is rarely ever packed or busy, except around 4-6 PM. I have never had to wait to use an equipment still during the busy times. Overall, this is a nice gym. Only concern is that it is a hefty price per month. But maybe that is how they keep the gym maintained and less busy. read more

I personally had a terrible experience during summer camps with three of my kids in 3 separate age groups- all three having a lack of supervision while other children were mean to them. This chronic lack of supervision was yet displayed again when a school friend of my children's drowned in their swimming pool this year. We just joined and have really enjoyed the facilities and the staff. They seem to have thought of everything. Machines are newer, clean, and smooth. A lot of classes to choose from. Locker rooms are spacious and well looked after. Steam room is a dream. So good for the sinuses! Indoor tennis courts are such a treat, we love playing tennis and have to take a break in the winter, usually. We weren't even charged court fees one night because there was nobody else on the court. The cafe is delicious: the acai bowl I had after swimming one day was perfection. The pool is so warm, and the hot tub is large, so you don't feel cramped if someone else is in it. Is it pricey? Yes. Are you getting your money's worth? Absolutely. We wanted a "full" service gym, and that's what we are getting here. They look to have some great kids programs too, although that's not my demograph. read more

This is a great family gym. My kids love the Kidz World and take Karate there. My wife and I enjoy the classes, play tennis, and workout. The whole family uses the pool. BHC is one of the few clubs around that has tennis courts and as a tennis player this was the main reason I joined BHC versus other clubs around town. If you're just looking for a fitness club with classes, I'd recommend Lifetime. BHC has tried to update the interior of the club during the past year but the aerobic equipment remains dated and in disrepair. The basketball court, while a nice feature, has a very old & dead floor (meaning the ball doesn't bounce). All in all, BHC is a nice club and if you live in the Beverly Hills community you'll no doubt see a lot of your neighbors here working out. read more

Tbh Bhc sucks 9/10 men 40+ who haven't played basketball in years rent out the gyms 2-3 days out the week so you can't even use the gym. On top of that you have to deal with summer camp using the gym till 4 all summer long. Can't forget about about the 50+ year old Pilates group who needs a full court gym to work out 1-2 days out the week as well when it's a max of 6-10 students in that class. I pay almost 300+ a month to be able to use the gym when "Bhc management" say it's convenient. I find it very poorly put together that they have 15 plus tennis courts but can't take away 1 or 2 for the accommodation of all these other programs, they have arcade rooms for the kids or an even better idea is go outside, like who hosts a indoor summer camp for children dumbest idea of all time. read more

I have worked at BHC as a day camp counselor for the past two summers, and love it there. If I had the money, I would be a member year-round. Nearly everyone who works there is extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful. The gym is VERY well kept, from the equipment to the locker rooms (which are by far the nicest locker rooms I have ever been in). Kidz World is a great area for the kids, and much better than your average drop-them-off-and-let-them-fend-for-themselves kind of place. I agree that it would be nice if the pool were bigger, but that's really the only room for improvement I can see. And obviously, I highly recommend the summer day camp program :) read more

DO NOT SEND LITTLE ONES TO SWIM SCHOOL! My 40 month old has been swimming for 36 months and upon starting a class she became sad to have to go swimming. The instructor was INCREDIBLY UNENTHUSIASTIC about the lesson and preformed almost like a monotone robot who was there because she had to be. We didn't even bother to let them know we were dropping out . I've had to work hard to reintroduce how FUN SWIMMING SHOULD BE to my impressionable toddler, no thanks to BHC Swim School. I just moved to Michigan and my husband and I joined this gym. I was having trouble finding an all inclusive gym with classes, tennis, a pool etc. I saw many cheaper gyms with machines only, and then some expensive yoga/Pilates studios, so it was a relief to find a one stop shop, so to speak. I've only been in a few times but the staff has been very friendly and it seems very clean. The complimentary water, coffee, tea all day and bagels in the morning are a nice perk. I am also pregnant and it is nice that we will be able to add our baby to the plan and have child care included at the gym whenever we want to work out. People have commented that it is too pricey, and maybe it is by Michigan standards, but I find the price reasonable for all the amenities you get compared to when I was a member of gyms in New York and Chicago. They also waived the $550 joining fee and gave us a $400 credit to use towards personal training, massages, tennis lessons, etc. There is ample free parking outside which is also nice, since that is something I'm not used to in cities. The only cons I have seen so far are that the gym does have a weird floor layout and I dislike the fact that each cardio machine does not have its own tv, so you have to watch the shared tv's in the front of the room, but those are minor inconveniences to me. read more

Was under the impression that I had made a simple one-year commitment. Went in today to see when my obligation was over (my family did not go frequently and I was eager to be done paying over $200 a month) and was told I had to give them 60 days notice "according to the contract". The young woman working the membership desk conveniently claimed she didn't have a copy of the contract on hand to show me when I questioned her 60-days notice claim. My formal one-year commitment should end at the end of September. I don't understand how a company can continue to get away with such questionable business practices. read more

Just recently joined and we absolutely love the classes, tennis and boxing equipment. The traffic is light so I never feel rushed or like I don't have any space to myself. Yet, it's a drag that we are hooked in for a full year and the cleaning is not up to the expectation for the high amount we pay for. The pool and hot tub could use a good scrub down and maybe run an actual vacuum around the locker room and not just a lint roller. Most should feel refreshed and clean when they leave the gym. The lockers are a little outdated and stinky. Would be more likely to remain here if these things could be touched up a bIt. read more

I am visiting out of state and this gym is the closest to where I am staying. I have traveled to other regions and used local gyms paying a daily rate. This gym refused to even consider the idea. There was no reasoning behind it "just we don't do that". It's appalling that a place that focuses on fitness would deny someone who is willing to pay the access to get fit. read more

Though the club is excellent n everything it provides surpassed only by the Detroit Athletic Club it has a budding problem that seems to be ignored with the fear from losing membership numbers. Picture this scenario which is real......A member comes in from the street walking through slush, salt and grime, checks in then walks by numerous signs that say please change your street shoes to gym shoes to keep the remnants of outsides off our state of the art machines,then they lean against the wall using a cell phone right under a sign that says," please don't use the cell phones on the floor" if one won't trek across their living rug at home tracking the outdoors across the carpet why would they do it in a 5 star club. These issues have been going on for years and finally signs are posted yet unpoliced under the fear of losing membership numbers. These rules are realistic and unfortunately unenforced We pay top dollar to belong while in return we expect comfortable, well maintained facilities which is the intention of the issues above which includes preventing cell phone usage out of respect of those not on the call surrounding the violators How about a dose of reinforcement Ths isnt at all derogatory against the club which is 5 star however that can change without the reinforcement needed to maintain that status. The facility as a whole is relatively nice, however it is starting to feel its age. Also, the work out area is literally a sea of machines. Even though there is a basketball gym and aerobics studio, there is never any free open space to work out. The gym always has basketball games or classes going on, as does the aerobics studio. So, if you want to do anything besides bicep curls or leg extensions on a machine, there is no free space to do anything. The facility itself is not the reason for my bad review. It is the management, more specifically the owner, Steve. Once my wife and I were members here for about two months and realized it was not for us, I tried speaking to the owner since he was the one that ultimately had to make the decision to let us out of our contract. First, getting this guy on the phone is like trying to get an audience with the Pope. Then once we spoke, he wanted to charge me $1,200 to let me out of my contract. While technically he had the right to do so due to the contract we signed, as I told him, he was essentially holding me hostage and forcing me to work out in a club that I truly disliked for another whole year. At the end of this conversation, he then said "Well I have your contract on my desk, let me think about this and get back to you." Fast forward a month, I never heard back from the guy. I left over 7 voice mails, talked to his finance manager, even tried coming in a few times to talk to him in person, but every time he was "on a conference call" or just too busy to see me. Eventually, we came to the conclusion that Steve was never going to let us resolve this issue. We ended up getting out of our contract with the help of a friendly staff member. I went from just wanting to leave the club, to now making sure that everyone I know does not join. Great customer service Steve! read more

The building is, I believe, a converted bowling alley, and while they've tried to renovate over the years, the layout maintains the awkward feel of having been designed for some other purpose. Inside, the finishes and equipment are tired, and outdated. The carpeting is dingy and well worn. Overall, it seems the management doesn't quite have the budget required to perform the total overhaul they must know they need, so instead you get lots of band-aids that only draw attention to all the different ways time has passed the BHC by. They used to offer easy weekly memberships, but have now changed their policy so you can only access the club if you know a "member." Bottom line: this is a business that has been around a long time, but that is way past its prime. read more

I just joined a few months ago and have yet to take advantage of all of the classes and amenities offered! I think the facility is beautiful and the equipment is well maintained. My personal trainer is great, pushing me out of my comfort zone without overdoing my 52-year old body. And I love the fact that they have indoor tennis courts and a pool. I would like to see an outdoor pool added some day though. read more

I used to be a member here before moving out of the area. I checked out quite a few places before joining, but the reason I did join this club was because of its fantastic child care facility. Most places tend to have either a retiree or a couple teenagers to watch your kids and a television set to occupy their time. Not here, not by a long shot. They have about 5 different areas that kids can play in, grouped by age, from a separate room for infants who need a nap to a room with a bounce house and big foam pads to give the kids a place to get a bit of exercise themselves. The tennis instruction is great, the locker rooms are clean, the pool is not crowded, and they have a great range of equipment. I only wish they had retired some of the ancient stair masters and added a few more elipticals or treadmills. And parking can be a bitch on weekends. But other than those minor complaints, it was (is) a great locally owned gym. read more
