I already spoke to the office manager so hopefully this review comes as no surprise. We moved back to the state last fall with our 5 month old (at the time) and felt this practice was a good fit based on what we read. (We were also extremely spoiled with exceptional care in our previous state so maybe expectations were too high.) It was relatively painless to transfer records and get a 6 month appointment set up. Unfortunately, from then on the problems piled up. Cons/Issues: - They recently moved to an electronic patient portal. Love that. The problem? They don't actually use it. I sent a (non-urgent) question through the portal 5 months ago... it has yet to be answered. - Billing also doesn't go through the portal (or any online payment processing system that we can tell). We received paper bills in the mail with the option to write our CC # in line or mail a check. What year is this? - The covid19 vaccine roll out was a mess. They opted for "clinics" where they scheduled all kiddos to come in on certain days. The wait was very, very long. They were unable to schedule the 2nd or 3rd shot at that time and told us to just call back. I called multiple times. Was told they were "figuring out the clinic schedule." Appointments were canceled. At one point they told me their supply expired (probably from not actually administering them...) I asked at every well visit for a shot. My child is still not fully vaccinated after 9 months (despite us very much wanting vaccination). - The MA situation is extremely chaotic. It almost feels like they don't have dedicated MA's because the front office staff seem to take us back often. One MA in particular continues to pronounce our child's name incorrectly (it's a very basic name) and never fully explains what's going on. (Thankfully, I work in healthcare so I know what's going on but I feel bad for parents who don't.) - An NP in training did our one year appointment (we did not know this was happening) and it was messy, sloppy, and really quite a let down. I understand new providers need training but this was just not it. Kind of ruined the cute "yay - one year appointment" vibe. I had to hand hold him through it... Didn't get to talk to our actual provider long because he seemed rushed. Again, I'm thankful I work in healthcare and know how to find answers to my questions and have a strong network of provider friends to rely on. - We had to schedule a semi "urgent" video chat with a provider one day. The process was a mess. I received 3 different messages (email, text, portal) with various times and locations. I had no idea what was going on or where to go. - On-call/after hours situation is a disaster. The calendar on the site is very messy. You have the option to email a provider or call (who is emailing in an on-call/after hours emergency?). We called and had to listen to an obnoxiously long message where the on-call number was read off at the very end and promptly disconnected. If you aren't prepared to write it down manually, you will need to call back and listen to the message again (while your child is probably vomiting and screaming). Why is there no nurse triage line or direct connect to the on-call provider? - At our more recent visit, the provider didn't know how to send a referral and had to ask the front desk. Yikes. - We got conflicting medical advice re: medication from multiple providers at the practice. - Finally, I felt certain providers were quite arrogant/condescending. "I know best, don't question me" attitude. Not a good look. - Lastly (just mild annoyances), the office is incredibly challenging to get to and the exam rooms don't have exam tables... just couches that everyone sits on and then the babies/kiddos are examined on said couch. No sink in the room to wash hands. I haven't noticed the providers sanitizing upon entry (perhaps I missed it - throwing them a bone). Kind of gross though. The waiting room is very, very small. If there are more than 2 families waiting, be prepared to be on top of each other. Pros: - They will get you in quickly. If you need to be seen that day, you will likely be seen... no issue. We ultimately decided to move to a new practice because the cons very much outweigh the pros at this point. Huge bummer. read more

We love this practice! We've been going to this group of doctors since May 2016. Since moving to their new location on Telegraph, the office has an entrance for healthy patients and a separate entrance for sick patients. They are always very quick to respond to emails and if you need to bring your sick child in for an appointment, they usually can get you an appointment that day. We have never had a negative experience with any of the doctors or staff. Everyone is very kind. We've seen Dr. Molly, Dr. Sullivan, Dr. Yursa, and NP Lori most frequently. My kids are comfortable around them and as a parent that is super important to me. read more

We love this pediatrician practice! We have been going there for 2.5 years and I have nothing but good things to say. The doctors and nurses are nice and kind. We never feel rushed and they answer all of our questions. And perhaps most importantly, our little guy likes it there. The set-up is great ... we never wait in the lobby for more than 2 minutes (and that is only if there is a family in front of us). They immediately put you in a comfortable room with a couch and books and toy dinosaurs. It's great! I appreciate that I can email during weekends and evenings and get a quick response. I have even sent photos via email of a swollen bug bite that was of concern. It was so great to have peace of mind on a Sunday night. We recently went to a flu shot clinic here. The line was super long, but they moved everyone through at a decent pace and it worked out really well! read more

Birmingham Pediatrics + Wellness Center - Pediatricians Near Me - Bloomfield Twp, Michigan

Our family moved here a year ago and we heard positive things about this office. Unfortunately, our experiences have been far from positive. Our first ever visit was on the account that my son had a slight fever. The doctor we saw decided to jump to a catheter immediately to check if he had a bladder infection. I thought it was a bit extreme. She laid him down, tried shoving it in and had no success, on top of that she was getting frustrated with us that my husband and I were not restraining him good enough. She had zero success and only tortured my son. Only to suggest, we wait for him to pee instead. Why in world couldn't we do that in the first place!? Tests came back negative and they left it at that. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and continued coming to BP and tested out a few other staff members. Most recently, I took him in for routine shots. The doctor said "he will be getting a Hep A vaccine and his flu shot." We haven't been pro flu shot and I expressed that to the doctor. She carried on saying he will need two rounds and that they would be holding a flu clinic in October and he could get another one then. She left and the nurse came back with both shots. I expressed to her that I wasn't ready to make any decisions and needed time to consider the flu shot. We didn't get it but they still charged me for it...and when my husband called to ask them to reverse the charges on a shot we never received she placed the "miscommunication" blame on me and said she would consider it and call him back the next day. We never heard from her even after following up. We will not be returning! read more

So every since all their doctors left. This place has gone down hill. The only two people that we see continuously is Shan & Tom ( who are amazing btw) aren't even doctors, but we love them. As for Lori the NP her bedside table manner and short sided unfounded opinions are beyond ridiculous. Ex: My son comes in with a fever and runny nose, at 1 yrs old and her reply give him Benadryl and Tylenol that would stop him from draining. So I stated yeah it would but considering he's not having an allergic reaction I prefer not to dope him up. (I have a kid with lots of allergies) she then concludes her two cent with well I did it for all my kids and it worked for us. Who freaking cares about your kids. If I expressed disinterest in your suggestion just keep it moving. Now for the doctors. Dr. Erin and Nassrin were pretty awesome. Unfortunately their no longer there. I have met one of the new doctors but Dr. Rice couldn't be my sons doctor on any day. She's quick to send you off to see a surgeon rather than looking at the symptoms. My son came in with enlarged lymph nodes without showing signs of illness and she had no clue why the were swollen. Instead of asking her colleagues opinion she passed me a script for a surgeon after 5 mins of speaking with me about the issue. She barely even looked at it. I left that day and went to a new practice and it was concluded that he had an infection (no surgeon needed) they gave antibiotics and in 5 days he had relief. Unless They take a hard look at their staff and do some changes we most certainly won't be back. read more

We've been going here for the past 7 years. Unfortunately, the bad outweighs the good. Pros -If you have medical questions in the evening you can email/call and someone usually will get back to you (this has been inconsistent in my experience or schedule info is not up to date so you don't know who to contact...it's up to you to figure this out there's no central number) - Appointments are easy/convenient to make and walk-ins are available for established patients - Most of the staff is great. Particular standouts are Shan, Tom, and all of the doctors Cons - They don't do hospital rounds for newborns -They don't seem to read notes or have information from last visits (because you don't see the same doc consistently) - this leads to conflicting advice, a lot - There is an NP who examined my children without gloves, without scrubbing up and who has a terrible bedside manner - NO - It's disconcerting to be in an office building with tons of other people in the elevator with a newborn or sick child - You have to park super far (try lugging a newborn in a car seat from the back of a huge lot on a snowy day) - If you need your child's records for anything (even at a doctor's direct request) be prepared to pay at least $15 My main issue with this office is that not once in 7 years have I ever been treated as a valued customer - they are not a service organization. If the level of care made up for that I'd be all in, but unfortunately, it doesn't. read more

I will not be going back to this practice. I have been there 3 times and have seen 3 different doctors. Not one of the came in a introduced themselves, i didn't even know who i was seeing. I felt extremely rushed while in the office. I didn't feel like i had personalized service with any of them. I took my son for a check up after having to go to Urgent care, he had Croup. When i came in O'shea hardly look over him and then told me he could go back to day care that day. Croup is supposedly contagious for 3 days, urgent care told us to keep him home for the week because he would get worse and he did. I could only imagine sending him to daycare and then him throwing up there. I just haven't seen the personalized service you should receive within a pediatrics office. This is my child's doctor that i want to have a long relationship with, it won't be happening with this practice. Yes, being able to email them to answer questions is great and that is what made me try them out but it's not worth having unfriendly care. read more

Good practice for those who believe in fully vaccinating. If you believe in "attachment parenting", extended breastfeeding or vaccine choice, look elsewhere. As a breastfeeding mentor and mom of 3, the breastfeeding "information" given by Dr Stacey is not up to par with WHO or La Lache league. read more

We moved to this practice two years ago. I have been consistently impressed with my experience. I think Dr. Nisrin is amazing - we always see her on well visits and she is thorough and speaks directly to my children (which I love). She not only does a physical exam, but also talks to them about all aspects of their health including hydration, nutrition, screen time, etc. I also like that this practice runs on time. For a well appointment, I can rely that from start to finish it will be between 30-60 minutes (whereas my old practice would routinely have you waiting for 30-45 before you even got a room!) I have never felt that the physician or NP was rushed - they have always taken the appropriate amount of time for every visit. I also like the drop in hours. Even if they are slightly less predictable as far as timing, it is nice to have that option for the basic ailments of childhood (cough, ear infection, etc). Also - I love NP Lori. Once, when Brady was sick, she called the next day just to check-in because she had been worried about him after his appointment. All in all, a well run practice with good clinicians. read more

This office is wonderful. The doctors are very caring and experienced. When we were sent for a follow up appointment with a specialist, Birmingham Pediatrics took care of everything setting up the appointment for us, coordinating the referral for our insurance, etc. Such a relief for our busy family to have someone handle it all! We primarily see Dr. O'Shea who is magnificent, and we have visited with others in the practice with positive experiences. Highly recommend. read more

We've had several very frustrating experiences with this clinic. 1. They scheduled us for an appointment and half way through, they said they scheduled it for the wrong date and insurance wouldn't cover it. 2. The nurse Brenda (we had to ask her name because she never introduced herself) came in and started poking our kid without giving us any information as to what she was doing. She's the head nurse, FYI. Unsurprisingly, our 2 year old completely freaked out at being manhandled by a complete stranger. 3. They said we declined a vaccine on our last visit AND that we had signed a refusal. When we said we did no such thing, they tried to find the "signed refusal" and found out that it was just a copy of our vaccine. Oops! They apologized for the error in their medical records keeping; nevertheless, the vaccine for our 18 month old was completely missed. 4. They said they have a nurse shortage but I'm starting to think no one wants to work with the head nurse; she was very short with us, rolling her eyes when we asked a question. 5. Overall, they seem overwhelmed. The nurse rushed in and our of our room without communicating (we didn't even know she was the nurse). The phones were ringing off the hook and the practitioners had to be corrected by the receptionist (who seemed to be the most competent of them all) regarding insurance policies. 6. When they send you the bill, it won't say what it's for. It will just give you a total due. read more

I received a scary letter from the CDC about my child vaccines. It stated that my child MMR was late and said I need to get it immediately. It made me curious so I started researching as a first time mom the data made me nervous. I never said I didn't want to vaccinate my child. When I posed the question I was be rated by the doctor an had a non-vaccination form thrown in my face. I told the tech we wanted to vaccination and the Dr. said "Oh" we are vaccinating now. I feel I was not listened to and berated for question the vaccination. I did continue to see the office but I think the Dr. refused to see my child any more. I have since left the practice to their continued rudeness. It is ok to ask questions and any office that will make you feel otherwise is not the write place for my child. read more

Overall we have been happy with this practice in the three years we've been going there. However, after my experience yesterday at my son's 3 year well visit I will not be going back to see NP Lori ever again. She had been with my son for about 5 minutes and asked us if we had concerns about autism. I was taken aback. I'm a therapist myself, so I asked specifically what she was seeing in the past 5min that would make her ask that question. It was 7:30pm and he was tired (this was the only well visit left before the holidays) and she said that his "reactions" to her trying to get his blood pressure and listen to his heart made her think he might be on the spectrum. Our son has not been sick much at all and is not used to a doctors office or procedures. He got upset and was saying "No!" to her loudly and pushing away from her. That's all. She then proceeded to say "Well he might not be on the autism spectrum, maybe he will just be the awkward kid." ..... Excuse me? I was not impressed. Before you throw around words like autism, maybe ask some more questions and spend more than 5 minutes with a young child late in the evening. We love Dr. Erin and will only be seeing her whenever possible going forward. read more

Love that they answer questions via email, have walk in sick visits on mondays, that you are never in the waiting room for more than a minute, that the exam room features a leather couch, the on staff lactation consultant... Just a quick update as I thought of two more cons: Apparently each new family is supposed to receive a book provided by the office. They reference this book in all of their out of office emails. I never received this book. Also, I'm not sure if this is a common practice, but they outsource their hospital visits for newborns. So they doctor that visits you post delivery is not a doctor you will ever see again. Essentially, when you show up in the office, they really don't know anything about your baby or your situation. While I understand there may be a good reason for them to do this, I wasn't a fan. The Doctor that visited us basically just looked over my daughter very briefly and said "have you scheduled your appointment with Dr. Fiona yet?" That was basically it. read more

Loved everything about our experience here. Dr Molly is the best. She is kind, fun, but most importantly thorough. She caught something that our previous pediatrician had not. Additionally, the nurses and staff were all wonderful and the office has a very fun, fresh, and welcoming atmosphere. As a mother of 3 boys under the age of 7, I love that the rooms have leather couches rather than exam tables. My boys often end up climbing and trying to jump off the exam tables anyway. I love the brimingham Pediatrics, but the grace period time is not 15 min, it's only 5 to 10 mins, better to reschedule the appointment, because the RN in the doctor office will not visit you even if you checked in 1 min late than her grace time.... the other doctors except the RN is really nice and they care for you... better to avoid the RN read more

Very pleased! This is our third pediatrician and we are pleased we moved. We have two small children who like the atmosphere and the doctors so much. We're always able to get an appointment when needed. Walk ins in the late afternoon are pure genius! This is the only practice we've been to that responds to email and texts too. They get it. Dr. Molly and Dr. Fiona are two of our favorites - both are savvy, compassionate and accurate. read more

We recently had our first experience with Birmingham Pediatrics and Wellness and we were all very happy. Our long time pediatrician Dr. Kimberlee Coleman M.D. recently moved her practice from Bloomfield Hills to Birmingham Pediatrics and we are following her because my kids love "Dr. Kim". I also like the location in Troy which is close to I-75 and Somerset mall. The office was very nice and we were seen the same day for a sick visit last week. We were quickly taken to a private waiting room and were seen right away. The nurse was very calm and patient with my daughter who was nervous about getting a throat culture. The staff was all very professional and we were quickly on our way. The prescription was sent directly to our pharmacy and was waiting for me to pick up on my way home. As a mom I love the time that Dr. Coleman takes with each of my girls during their well visits. No other Dr. has ever given them as thorough of an exam. She always takes the time to listen to them and ask about their lives. We are very happy that we can continue our care with Dr. Kim at the new office. read more

Terrible. I would never recommend this practice to anyone, We took our newborn there for her first out-of-hospital check up and to get bilirubin tests done because she was jaundiced. I don't remember the doctor's name that we saw but she was a newer, young, Indian woman. First off, they turned my poor kid into a human pincushion while trying to extract blood. They poked her 3 times and bruised her heels pretty bad. Then screwed up the sample and all that effort was wasted. The doctor called my cell to let me know at around 5:30 in the evening and said I should go to the hospital to the lab and get blood work redrawn. We packed up the car and the baby and got there about an hour later and they were closed (the lab) so we just came back home and decided to wait things out until our appointment the following day. The doctor called me back on my cell and asked how things went and we explained to her about the situation. She said that we should go to the ER and get it done there (ya know, in the beginning of January... with a 48 hour old baby... height of flu season). I told her that I wasn't sure if I felt comfortable with that and she proceeded to tell me that if I didn't go, I would be giving my child brain damage and she could die. Nice thing to say to a first time mom, right? I had even called the ER nurse's station at the hospital to ask their opinion and they said "Do not bring your child in" and that the risks outweighed the benefits. I had heard pretty good things about this office but I ma extremely disappointed. To put the icing on the cake- we had given out insurance info over the phone, we gave them the physical card at the appointment and yet, they still sent us a bill and apparently didn't even attempt to put it through to insurance. It was a total nightmare. I would never recommend this place. read more

Since then I have been contacted three times by the office manager, and more receptionists attempting to schedule wellness visits for my children. I started going to Birmingham Ped when my twins were newborns. I had heard they had great reviews. Being a new mom I obviously didn't have experience with a pediatrician and what was the norm for offices. Here are the pros and cons that we experienced. PRO: You can email questions and they respond quickly......and that's it. CONS: 1.We would get brought back right away and get their weights etc but then we would wait 45 min for the dr to come in. Please believe this is not an exaggeration. Having 2 babies and no exam table it was really hard to hold them that long. I didn't want to put them down on a dirty couch or floor. If this happened once I wouldn't think anything of it, as I also work at a Drs office but this was EVERY TIME. I didn't understand if it was because we had twins and they were pushing us off. 2. I noticed my babies had flat spots on their heads around 6 weeks. The dr never looked at their head during the exams so I emailed 2 days after their appt. I was told to move their toys so they look the other way. Getting more concerned I requested to be seen. The Dr told me one baby had torticollis. How didn't they see that 4 days prior? I HAD to point out the difference in cheek size. I HAD to ask for them to give me a referral to physical therapy. Once physical therapy recommended cranial helmets I told NP Lori who told us "they don't work". I was surprised seeing as how I know of babies that had them. She suggested waiting a month to come back and see if there was improvement. Well guess what? We go back after the month and see a different dr.! How can you check if there's improvement if I see a different person? So that wasted a month of precious time. When I told her I'd like to have a referral to a cranial plastic surgeon she said "ok if you want". I felt like I had to make all the decisions without any info or guidance. Thank God I listened to the specialists and got the helmets. And guess what? They worked!! 3. When I asked for the proper doses to give infants on medication I was told to look online. I'm sorry but shouldn't a pediatrician be able to tell me this? 4. I'm sure the dr spends maybe 20 minutes with each patient. I started to notice that our appts would be 20 min for BOTH BABIES. When I would ask questions it felt like I didn't get much info back. And they may be simple questions but as new parents you want feedback and advice and tips. For example they couldn't provide me with a sleeping schedule or any tips for twins. 5. I never had trouble making an appt but I also don't believe they really look at the charts. I had specifically asked if my babies could get the flu shot at their 6 month visit on Tuesday. I said great I want them to have it then. We get to the appt, wait forever to have them tell us I'm sorry you have to come back in 3 days because they aren't 6 months until 3 days. What?!! That's why I had called. I was then told I can't make an appt and need to go to the flu clinic. I do believe there should be consideration for the pts age. Newborns and small infants have different needs and can't wait over an hour. They also shouldn't be crowded in a room with dozens of people and children. Now that I have a new pediatrician it is night and day! Good luck to all trying to find great care for their babies! read more

Wanted to say the place is very nice as well with the rooms, and clean but the staffing is just unbelievable especially with our infant at the time. The amount of time waiting and rudeness of them is why I recommend others to find a better OB. Just like Kelly S. my wife and I also never received our book and when I talked to the office manager she was very rude person at the time, but their billing department are very helpful though. read more

Love this practice. We have seen a number of doctors and been very pleased with all of them. Their approach is very practical and integrated both holistic & traditional approaches. We have always had excellent turnaround on communication with them after hours, the advice they've given us has been spot on in treating our son - who has experienced everything from RSV to sleep regression to chronic ear infections to dairy sensitivity - and we feel Dr. Erin genuinely cares for our son & family. They were especially wonderful during his God awful bought of RSV at 4 months. We felt very well cared for, followed up with, and the staff err'd on the safe side in all the decisions that we made together in regard to his treatment & care. Love that the rooms don't have exam tables and are very homey. We've had candid conversations about vaccines and have felt supported in all of our decisions. Unless we were a walk in, we've experienced minimal wait time, if at all. I will note, however, that there is ONE nurse on staff that has been terrible to work with. She has been consistently unfriendly, cold, and awful to the point of ineffective at collecting our baby's blood sample. Whenever she's tried, it resulted in multiple pricks, squeezing, bruising, having to bring in someone else to execute it after multiple failed attempts, and/or getting a call the next day to tell us she didn't get enough blood and we'd have to come back to have it re-pulled. At our first wellness visit, baby became very hungry, and the doctor told me to feel free to nurse him as long as I needed in the exam room, as we were her last appointment. Within a couple mins, said nurse came barging in, told us they were closing, that everyone was gone, and we needed to leave. I really don't know how this woman is still employed, but we've simply asked to NOT have her as our nurse going forward, and thankfully we have not had the displeasure of dealing with her since. Other than one bad apple, this practice is everything we've needed and then some in our Pediatric care, and we look forward to them taking just as good of care of Baby #2 soon as well! read more

It finally took moving to a new doctors office to know the difference and see doctors who truly care for my child's well being. This practice is way to big for its own good. I felt like it was a clinic and no one ever knew what was going on with my newborn and her acid reflux. I had three different doctors opinions and every time I want/requested to see a doctor I always got offered the nurse partitioner. Yes, I feel even during Walkens I should be offered a doctor at my doctors office. While I am not trying to discredit her I don't pay Doctor fees to see a nurse practitioner. Even on our very first visit when my baby was three days old I did not see a doctor, they should want me to finally meet a doctor considering they also don't send a doctor from their practice to the hospital. you get a pediatrician that's at the hospital that will never see your child again. They also make it impossible to continue seeing the same doctor so that your child and your concerns are truly never being met by one person and when you finally do see the same doctor they don't even remember you. On top of this all they are in a huge business building on the fourth floor when you enter the building with the stroller there are no buttons to help you get these doors open and the parking is always very far. Imagine that during the winter months with a sick child. Also as a new patient am a new parent on day one we were never given what the offices protocol is when we have a sick child or when we have concerns. and when I asked for a list of food to give to my child the nurse practitioner said you can give her whatever you want any fruits or vegetables but no information on serving sizes no in-depth conversation I was just left with a Google search.com answer. The front desk also doesn't seem to be excited to be working with children. I also once waited 40 min in the room for the doctor and when I asked the nurse when will I see the doctor as I try to contain an infant she said 40 min was bad. They also exam on dirty leather couches. read more

She always takes the time to listen to any concerns and is very thorough in her assessment of our girls. She responds quickly to email and goes above and beyond in my mind. My husband and I took our daughter, our first-born child, to this office for the first year of her life based on the recommendation of my OB. Honestly, I am disappointed. The office itself is nice enough, but I did not feel heard by the doctors themselves. Not once during our year of visits to this office did a doctor or other staff member ask me about my goals and beliefs as a parent. We are more of an attachment parenting family, rather than a cry it out one. I was shocked and offended by suggestions made to me that went against my core beliefs as a parent. We have recently started going to this office, because we were following Dr. Kim from her previous location. I have been to this office three times, and have really loved my visits with each one. Our appointments with Dr. Kim have always been perfect from the day my girls were born. Finding her was a HUGE blessing! She is extremely knowledgeable in pediatrics, reassuring and encouraging to parents, and so very caring about her patients! I have had her call me on her personal time (on the weekends, on her way home from work) to discuss my daughters or just check on them. Whenever we go into the office, they can't wait to see her. If the slightest thing goes wrong (a cut or a mild tummy ache), they both tell me to "call Dr. Coleman!" (as we always have known her). She has even been known to sit and hold my youngest (3 years old) during her well appointment and just comfort her and play with her. There is no better doctor out there for my girls. So thankful to have her as a guide and encouragement to myself and my husband on our journey in parenthood! :) We have also seen Dr. Stacey and appreciated her knowledge and advice. She is very direct and to the point, and gets to the heart of the matter. We have not had an opportunity to see any of the other doctors in the office, but so far, everyone has been very pleasant and accommodating. I really appreciate the walk-in hours as well!
