We have been here several times. Windcreek Casino has recently bought them. I will say up until my last two visits, I was finally winning something. People are a little more excited. Changed out many machines. Still don't have a fountain drink area. If you want something to drink, you have to purchase it. Not sure how much alcohol is but can drinks aren't expensive. Seems like it's a rather long walk to get inside. Even further when you leave. (Lol) No parking garage yet. "Rumor" has it they are building a new casino and hotel behind it. The area where the dogs use to race(I think) with the stairs leading up on both sides-I think could be made into a beautiful outdoor event venue. Let me say this. The family that owns the casino HAS AN AMAZING ADVERTISING TEAM. Because their highway billboard and online advertising sold us. But LAWD, as we pulled up to this big empty parking lot. We immediately felt our pockets draining. The building looks as though it used to be a stadium or an auditorium of some sort. I thought it just opened, but looking at some of the reviews while sitting in front of the slot machine trying not to fall asleep. The earliest review was 2008. Sadly, the majority of the reviews was a 1 star. Coming in your ID is checked, and you step into a quiet room filled with what looks like brand new slot machines. What I did like was that there wasn't any cigarette smoke lingering in the air. Again, for this to be a casino, it was pretty quiet. Something I'm not used to. I can say this was an experience that I won't try again. The machines don't pay out and they don't take one dollor bills. However, I just read that the owners of this casino are in negotiations with WindCreek to take ownership. So, hopefully, if that happens, this casino, along with Victory Land, will be much better. If you're considering going to this place, don't. Very few workers, we were in line almost a hour just to get a players card. Security is almost non existent, if you're familiar with the area this is HUGE. Only food available is a concession-esk stand. The cocktail was not drinkable, so bad I threw it in the garbage. We were accused of being racist just for asking if an elderly man with a cane, who looked very confused was ok. The lady, who accused us as such was a worker there. She got very loud and irate with us and I swear to God all my brother did was ask the man if he was ok. I love slot machines. I grew up with horse racing and learned to love that experience also. My family and I have lived in Birmingham, Alabama for over 30 years. The Birmingham Race Course was awful. Not well kept, dirty, and disorganized. Hardly anyone there in this huge room of slot machines so no excuse for the lack of service. The snack bar was also a real disappointment. WHY, can't we have a facility that is first class? If our city can't sustain it, they lets not have it. Nothing about this place is worth taking even a short drive to attempt to enjoy. This pertains to Lights of Noel Only! I wasn't really impressed all that much. The signs to show where to go were small and very easy to miss. No signage told us to continue past the Hot chocolate stand to get to the ticket booth. We sort of figured it out ourselves in the dark , in a place we have never been. Once we got there we saw a sign to put your radio on a certain channel to hear Christmas music. Lol We have never used our car radio (I prefer using youtube music that has my playlists) so we had to figure that out. Seemed the music was PC. No mention of God so as not to offend anyone I'm guessing. Even though it is touted to b the longest drive through eh it had alot of sameness to it. I've honestly seen better displays in subdivisions. It really seemed short to me . It only took longer cause people stopped to take photos like I did. All in all maybe it was 25 min max . The price was $ 35 dollar on a weekend per car . The price is lower than say the zoo's. Would I do it again. Not a chance..It was an experience and that's that. We had about an hour to waste in Birmingham one afternoon. It's kind of far out from airport but not a bad drive! The greeters were horrid! October 20 @ about 1:15pm. We know we're in a pandemic but we were practically yelled at to stand in line about 10 feet away from the guy ahead of us. They were rude and short with us. No greeting at all. No one directs you in the huge room of slot machines. No direction at all! But we figured it out ourselves and came out with $25 dollars winnings! Paid for lunch! We didn't eat here. Didn't even see snack bar. You can use bills to place in machines and then get a voucher to go play more if you're ahead! I think if you want to get more people out there, employees should be welcoming and greeting patrons. I didn't think anyone friendly at all. Surprised this place still open. I was in on a less than busy night. I put a $60 ticket into a machine that instead of it sucking horizontally it sucked vertically in. Needless to say it didn't accept the ticket so I called service. A random employee arrived and gave me a free play ticket while we waited and she was great. fINALLY a "pit boss" arrived who opened the machine and inspected. After about 10 minutes he basically accused me of lying and never found my ticket. Nobody touched the machine after me so in theory my ticket should be the one on top but somehow he couldn't find it and decided that rudeness and accusations of lying were the answer. The gambling is fun, but after several visits there is no rhyme or reason to the services provided, by that I mean the drink service. Every time I visit there is some reason why drinks aren't being served, with the caveat that drinks service stops at a certain hour of the night and there are no waitresses. Tonight's random service was walking up to the bar and the bar keep telling me the bar is closed until another bartender shows up. As you walk in to the race course/casino its bland to the taste just like the service at the 24 hour bar ( rarely any worker is there and when they are they don't wait on you while they are growling and hitting the register with balled up fists full of money). The machines hit well at times like every other place. Then, they don't do much. If you want a good evening, get your drinks at the front bar. Birmingham Race Course We were passing through Birmingham and planned an evening at the Birmingham Race Course. What a big disappointment! The grounds and facility used to be a horse track, but was converted to a dog track. The grounds are expansive and the facility is enormous, but it is a run down ghost town. Less than 100 in attendance the night we were there. The greyhound races were poorly announced and one race went off with no one calling the race at all! There were very few people there. In fact, we were the only ones betting the dog races and the only ones in the entire track area. Everyone else was doing simulcast betting. There are two small bars that offered light snacks, but no restaurants. The lower level is under construction- we were told they are trying to put in slot machines. It's a shame that such a large, once beautiful track has gone downhill. read more

I've gone here to play the slot machines from time to time. Used to have a better chance at winning something before COVID but since then and all additional machines the machines are set they give little and take much. They don't payout at your highest bet so don't try it here. They pay out even less! People are more likely hit during day afternoon hours than night or late although the place is open 24hrs. If you expecting to win then don't come here ...the machines just take your money with no to very little payout. Nope, nope, nope. This place has VERY mixed communication among staff. Wore a crossbody bag in and went through security. Offered to have them search my bag and they declined. Two hours later, and after I'd spent lots of money on drinks and games, a security officer approached me and told me I'd either have to take my crossbody to my car or leave. I have allergy medications (epi pen) and asthma meds in that bag. I explained and offered to let said security officer search my bag. He declined. Repeated himself. Told me to take it up with the "upstairs" which wasn't open. Meanwhile, every female in the place had purses/handbags much larger than my tiny crossbody. Upon exiting, we asked the front door security what was up, and he said the person who approached me was over his head, but he didn't know the details but didn't see what the issue was. Wasn't there to gamble, went with some friends while they did and another friend and I sat at the bar with a lovely bartender, who sympathized with us. OK. It's not a restaurant and it's not in Atlanta. Geez, you people are geniuses... Birmingham Race Course is one of the most fun, most depressing places I've ever been. Nevertheless it boasts "the largest restaurant in Alabama", overlooking the defunct horse track now greyhound track. I went there after my great aunt's funeral a few weekends ago, since it was just down the road and I was depressed... The place looks like what I would expect most urban areas will be after the Apocalypse - overgrown, disused, but still inhabited by beings that used to be human. The open grandstand overlooking the track is closed, but you can take the impressive escalator to the "Sky Club" floor and walk past the banks of TVs and frustrated off-track betters to the largest (and smokiest) restaurant in Alabama, which is fully enclosed and has a 4 story glass wall overlooking the track. The tables each have a TV tuned to live feeds from horse tracks across the country (for OTB) and an ashtray. Beers are super cheap, but the coffee grounds need to be changed more than once per day. The best thing about the track besides the people watching, arcane dogracing programs and cheap beer is watching the greyhounds run. I have a retired racer, and always wanted to see them run... it's really a beautiful thing to see them doing what they love and were born to do. The race course has close ties to a local greyhound adoption organization and that eased my mind about going.
