My Kiwanis club, the Vulcan Club of Kiwanis, has a scholarship golf tournament at this golf course every year. We had it a couple weeks ago and the service was great as usual. The participants always enjoy themselves and the staff at the golf course are always available to assist us. We will see you next year! read more

The driving range is closed on Tuesday mornings until 11:00. Not sure if is always cart path only, but as a Yankee from the Pacific Northwest it was a little hot and sticky the day we went. However, the course was in great shape and there are some pretty good views of the city. read more

I will say I haven't been golfing in a few years. And I have been here in the past. So I might be biased about being able to hit balls and drink beer. Might bump it up a notch with that in mind. But we had a great time besides a monsoon happening around hole 15ish. I'll talk to them about controlling the weather next time. LOL. Overall, it is a reasonably priced course that is pretty good quality. Not the best obviously. But a good place to swing sticks. Staff is super friendly and the course was in good shape. But they were comparing the new grass to some high caliber places. But there were clearly some issues from time to time during our round. Marshall out there was really nice as was the concession girl. Pro shop is pretty sub-par. But I wasn't trying to do much shopping besides souvenir balls for my twin four year olds. I will definitely be going back. But I would say if any out of town people are trying to play golf, it is a good area, but there are high quality golf courses. For a guy that hasn't played in a while, I just love being back out there. But overall, it is a good experience. read more

The Highland Park Golf Course is a fun course to play. It is just 5800 yards from the tips, but is still a good challenge. The greens are bent grass and putts roll very well. The entire course is cart path only and as a result the fairways are usually in great shape. The course has many elevation changes so walking would be a good workout. Highland Park is in an area just south of downtown Birmingham called Southside. It is an established neighborhood that has old city charm. The location along with the layout contributes to the course's unique character. The front nine is longer than the back. Holes #4 through #7 are the hardest stretch. Hole #4 is a narrow par 4, #5 is a downhill par 3 over a small pond, and #6 and #7 play along a drainage wash. Number #16 is the most scenic hole. It is a par 4 that plays uphill. There is a lovely view of the Birmingham skyline from this green. read more

My team plays at Highland every year and we always enjoy coming. The greens are always in great shape. They've recently updated their golf carts to be computerized and have a very cool interactive screen that can help improve your game. The only thing I wish they would do is update the café area. It is very dated looking and sometimes feels dirty. read more

This is for the range only: The dilemma of a metro area with a lack of decent places to practice. 12.20 for a medium bucket of balls, while large is 3+ more. At a city facility nevertheless. Plus you get to hit balls to a small and uphill area. What a major disappointment! read more

I think this is a good range! Minus one star for...not having turf and grass surfaces, but not bad. I guess I like the option for if it recently rained or to tee driver. Additionally, I don't like the fake putting green holes. I'm simply not into hitting the base of the flag and pretending it went into the hole. However, there's a beautiful driving space in an uphill lie. You can hit at or over a couple trees, a green at pitching distance, and two more with the use of hybrid or driving range. When looking for a great place to golf around Birmingham, it's hard to go wrong with the oldest course in the state! With well kept greens and breath taking views of the city, there is a reason so this is a popular course in and around the city. The last two times I have played here have been as part of a school sponsored golf tournament. The staff hosting us were excellent and did not disappoint us with their service. If you are looking for a big golf outing, I would start here. Playing as a smaller group is always fun, just be ready for a larger than expected price. The green fees are better than other courses in the area, but you are playing on shorter holes so you get less bang (or more truly drive) for your buck. That would be the only negative thing to say about this course though, so tee it up and avoid the water if you can! read more

I genuinely do not think that you can find a better deal in Birmingham. The course plays very well although it is short. It is a great confidence booster and very easy to walk. The staff is extremely courteous and loves to see people out enjoying their course. If you are newer to golf or want to take someone out out who is then this is a great course for you. With views of downtown Birmingham, I cannot imagine anyone having a bad time at this course. Definitely play this course if haven't!! read more

The best part about the driving range is that you can come and hit balls for an hour on a $14 large bucket of balls. 100 balls is a lot of balls to hit! I wish the putting green had holes and not just pins that sit above the ground. What's the point if not hitting it into a hole? Maybe I will give the course a try soon! read more

I personally like Highland Park. Its short and easy. It has nice greens and the course is pretty well kept. The holes are super short. (Some par 4's you can hit in 1) Its reasonably priced. Be sure to call and make sure their is not a tournament before you go. read more
