Try the pear salad and sub out the pecorino for burrata. This salad is topped with truffle honey and is the most delicious salad of my life (not hyperbole!). Great food - decent service - nice respite from the day in an old pub/restaurant! The gnocchi in basil mushroom truffle sauce was absolutely to die for. It was melt-in-your-mouth delectable. I shared a liter of house red wine here with my friend for about ten euros. Great local wine and definitely the best meal I had in Italy! It was right down the street from Dante Alighieri's house/museum and had plenty of fans to keep patrons cool. read more

Yum yummy! I was on the hunt for a good gnocchi - ask and you shall receive! I even ordered off the menu and the waitress was happy to accommodate, plus pricing it very well. We also ordered the pesto gnocchi and the prosciutto melon salad - both so delicious. Great portion sizes too...even us glutinous Americans couldn't finish So far the best meal in Italy and not confident anything can top it...we'll see!! read more

Stopped by this place as the restaurant we were actually looking for was closed. Similar experiences to some of the other Yelp reviewers, we asked to sit outside but told by the waitress the tables had been reserved so we were seated inside an empty restaurant. Upon asking if we could sit near the window, we were told that as a 3 we were only able to sit on the smaller tables and the bigger tables were suitable for parties of 6... We later saw a young family of 4 seated on the table we had our eye on... OK... Prices are reasonable and the food was actually quite nice but probably the only redeeming factor as service was slow and we often felt overlooked. Our table was located in a dark corner of the room, another reason why we wanted to be sat outside. Hello mosquitos!! We weren't the only ones that had a good meal that night. Go if you can get a table and want traditional Italian food, avoid if you don't want to be participate as part of the buffet for the local Italian mosquitos. read more

Let me be unambiguous here. Our meal at Birreria Centrale was by far the finest meal that we had during our entire 11 days in Italy! We actually just found this place by accident. Meandering around Florence on an evening in late June, we found a restaurant that looked like it had a decent menu. They were full so actually kind of handed us off to Birreria Centrale. I was annoyed, but it turned out to be great luck for us. The service wasn't great. It was pretty slow, but the food more than made up for everything. We started with an antipasto plate including meats and cheeses. Everybody dug in and enjoyed the evening air, the appetizer, the bread, and the wine (well the munchkins didn't get wine). I ordered Florentine Steak (yes, taking a well deserved break from the vegetarian train). This steak was the most tender, the most savory steak I've ever had (which includes some good steak places in the mid-west). No joke, man. I actually made the mistake of giving one of the munchkins a bite and I spent the rest of the evening fending her off my dinner :) The rest of the family ordered seafood ravioli, a huge dinner salad with pears and some kind of amazing cheese, and another seafood dish. We enjoyed everything about this meal (the service doesn't count). If we had more time we could have come back here. The next time we are in Florence we WILL come back. If you make it to Florence, you need to eat at Birreria Centrale. You can thank me later :) read more

On my recent trip to Florence I enjoyed many amazing restaurants and meals. There was only one negative experience we had, and it was here. Our waitress was so unbelievably rude from the minute she approached our table. So much so that my 2 friends and I felt uncomfortable being there. We stopped in late afternoon to enjoy a glass of wine and late lunch while sitting outside and enjoying the weather and surroundings. She was immediately so unfriendly and rude right off the bat and acted like we had just spit in her face. Needless to say, it made for a very awkward and unenjoyable lunch. Her incredibly negative energy put a major damper on the hour we spent there rushing through our meal so that we could relocate to a cafe where we would have more friendly service. Aside from her, the food was ok. Definitely not towards the top of the list of great food we had in Florence. read more

After a long day of art and shopping, I was hoping for a great little place for some pasta and wine. This looked like a good like nook and the menu looked promising. I went inside and there were several tables filled and the other half empty. I was told if I wanted to eat, I would only be able to stay at the table for 1 hour and 10 minutes. That seemed very un-Italian and should have been my queue to leave. But my feet hurt and I was hungry. I ordered the house wine, apple and cheese salad, and tagliatelle with mushrooms. The house wine was good. The salad was large but lacking, and the tomatoes in it (that I don't remember being listed) were definitely out of season and not worth adding. The pasta was lacking serious flavor. I don't salt things other than potatoes, but I salted the crap out of this. Moreover, the service was not good. Never was I asked how the items were. I tried to get someone's attention (either the waitress or the gentleman who sat me), but they always rushed by and avoided eye contact. The waitress did come by, take my dinner plate, and asked if I wanted dessert; I indicated that I was done. That, and I had no plates left and empty glasses, so I thought they would bring me my bill. Nope. I waited once again. Finally I saw another single dinner go up and ask for her bill. I followed right after along with another dinner. I was surprised they didn't bring the bill sooner since it was 8:55 pm and I only had 5 minutes left before they said I would need to be out when I originally got there. read more

Was going to wait until I got home to Yelp this restaurant but seeing as it's 3 hours later and I still haven't gotten the check I'm doing it from the restaurant itself. Not only did it take 40 minutes to get our DRINK order taken, but once we had finally ordered our meal it took 2 hours to get the food! The wait staff was not sincere or apologetic and were too busy talking to one another to pay attention to us. As I write this review I am watching all three waiters talk to one another after clearing our plates while knowing that we had been waiting 2 hours for our main meal without offering coffee, desert or the check. Save yourself the time and go somewhere else because the food was certainly not worth the wait. UPDATE: After receiving our check we saw that they took 5 euros off for our inconvenience but had charged each of us 2 euros for simply sitting in the restaurant! After expressing our displeasure they took another 5 euros off after speaking Italian to one another and making rude comments about us to each other without knowing that I speak enough Italian to understand their conversation. They VERBATIM said when there are a lot of customers their kitchen often makes mistakes--such as completely forgetting to make food for an entire table. Literally ten paces from the front door of our B&B, but I'd drive ten hours to eat here. I had the squash ravioli with Gorgonzola and it was simply the best pasta I've ever eaten. My husband ordered the poem, which was quite good, but the grilled eggplant, zucchini, red bell peppers l, and onions were to die for. This came recommended by this site and trip advisor. Sorely disappointed. Our young male waiter (son?) forgot a two person Florentine steak meal (a "specialty") and a primi gnocchi entre. My daughter and i got our meals, and we finished. He asked if anything else. When asked about my wife and son's meal, he stormed off in a tantrum (literally), and proceeded to ignore us. An older female eventually arrived (sister?), and apologized and said language barrier. But instead of firing up the steak, they served 3 other tables what appeared to be the same steak. When it came up, it was charred, no seasoning, tadted like propane/gas, and a majority of the weight was large display bone and not meat. We got bill, another female waitress brought check, slammed on table, didn't say thanks or anything, even when I said thanks. We DO NOT recommend dropping over 100 Euro's on this spot. I stumbled upon this place while strolling the back streets of Florence this afternoon and saw a group of people eating the Lasagna and it looked absolutely delicious. So I decided to stop in later for a piece for dinner. Sadly, they were all sold out. Apparently it really is the best in Florence. So instead I had grilled pork steak with vegetables served with grain Dijon mustard and a demi glaze and a glass of the house red. It was absolutely delicious, plus the waitress was very helpful and kind. On top of that, there was a live band in the jazz bar two doors down. All of this combined made for a magical evening. I will definitely return for the lasagna one of these days and to enjoy the great atmosphere again. read more

This place offers nothing less then a complete lack of hospitality. With reservations for six we show up and seated at a table not even big enough for four. We ask if we could be move to a larger table and were flatly refused even though there were plenty of empty tables available. The two girls were the rudest persons I have encountered in all my travels. We finally got up and left. In my opinion the single star given in this review is a bit high.... read more

Most memorable meal during my five nights in Italy! Food was delicious and atmosphere was really fun. My husband and I are still trying to recreate some of the dishes we had. The price was very reasonable for the quality of food and wine we had. I don't write a lot of reviews, but this was one that I had to recommend to anyone visiting Florence. read more
