While everything we ordered was delicious, nothing at Trattoria Giovanni felt like a dish you couldn't find elsewhere... and honestly, that's perfectly fine! It was traditional, comforting, and exactly what we were craving. The plate of cured meats and cheese was phenomenal, a great start to the meal. The pastas were really good as well, though one of the meat dishes had a slightly off texture, with the chunks of meat a bit overcooked. All in all, we loved our meal and would definitely recommend this spot if you're in Florence.

They were blasting Highway to the Danger Zone and I Wanna Dance with Somebody while the main restaurant -- the one I thought I had booked -- played soft Italian music that actually fit the fine dining experience. The contrast was insulting. I was dressed in an upscale outfit appropriate for a refined dinner, yet I was treated as though I didn't belong. It felt discriminatory and dismissive. To make matters worse, at the end they tried to pressure me into tipping on the card machine -- in Italy, where tipping isn't even customary. The entire experience felt like a bait-and-switch, and I left feeling disrespected, singled out, and completely disappointed.

The line was a bit long, but doubled in size almost immediately. It also started pouring rain during this time and we were ALL getting drenched even with an umbrella. The non reservation line was not really moving unless people left the line. We waited a good hour. As we inched closer and closer, the lines were now both outrageous and getting seated seemed like a distant memory. The staff came out and gave out Sangria and Bread bites to help those in line feel welcome. We did finally get seated and we were so glad we waited, it was worth it! We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara, the lobster spaghettini and the chicken breast with roasted potatoes. We also ordered sangria. Everything was so good and our total was 83 €. Prices were unbelievable! We were amazed at the quality, the service and how large the restaurant they relocated to was. It was like a well oiled machine. The food coming out quickly and efficiently. I will 100% be back if I return to Florence!

If I get this right, they offer a different "theme" of dishes on different days of the week (closed on Tuesday), from pasta to fish to a foreign country theme (in my case it was the latter, the country being Morocco). So you order an aperitivo and dishes from the special menu. Each dish is only €3 (!!) but then they seem to add a surcharge of €3 per drink during aperitivo hour. Slightly strange concept and very penalising for a committing alcoholic like myself ;-) The Moroccan aperitivo menu consisted of an antipasto option (mixed starter), a primo (cous cous) and a secondo (some meat dish). I had a big lunch so only had the starter (see picture - quite tasty) and took the remaining calorie balance in liquid form. Speaking of which - the cocktail menu offers some interesting options (not all of the classics are listed, but these guys seem to know their stuff, just ask for what you want) and compared to the Rivalta Caffé, the drinks are balanced less sweet here. They have an interesting selection of vermouth, with some labels that are hard to come by outside of Italy. They also understand their bitters, with the likes of Bittermen's, Fee Brothers, Bitter Truth, Booker's and others present. There is also a comprehensive wine list and a menu with some other food options. I will certainly be back!

I arrived pretty late almost right before the place was closed, but they still seated me and I was the only one left in the restaurant. I got the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Since farm to plate is the restaurant's philosophy, all the ingredients are brought from its own farm, and I really loved the emphasis of the fresh vegetables and herbs throughout different courses. I was also really impressed by the creativity in the foie gras sandwich, which is so different than the foie gras courses I'd get normally elsewhere. The pasta courses with different meats were also really good, and their wine selection was also amazing. The interior is very modern and sophisticated, and the staff is incredibly friendly. It's a great spot for dates, anniversary or celebrations in general. Overall, this is probably my favorite restaurant in Florence so far and during my trip to Italy last time, and I'd definitely love to come back. The restaurant is right by Piazzale Michelangelo, so it's perfect to get for a walk after a meal, and enjoy the view of Florence.
