I found her Bradley Birthing Course to be informative and reassuring. I wanted to try natural childbirth, kinda like I've always wanted to try skydiving. It sounds scary, but lots of people have tried it and survived, right? Now if I'd have showed up for skydiving class and the instructor had told me to just trust the process and let go, I would have bailed. Same goes with a childbirth class. I wanted details, people, details! I needed to know what I could do to prepare, how to could deal with the pain, all that could possibly go wrong... I needed to confront my deepest fears about childbirth and come out with the determination to pull through. I got to do all that and more with Ginny. I appreciated her directness, candor, humor, and, of course, her willingness to repeat herself over and over (I suffered from some pretty severe pregnancy brain, which has since been eclipsed by even more debilitating mommy brain. Doh!) When it came time to decide whether or not to have a doula, my husband and I were on the fence. In the end, we figured it couldn't hurt, so we might as well. Rather than start interviewing people, we asked Ginny and she said yes. Now even though we liked Ginny and trusted that she knew her stuff, we weren't particularly bonded to her or anything. I had my reservations. All the doulas I'd seen on YouTube were pretty brawny. Ginny, on the other hand, was built like a pixie. I could crush this woman if so much as thought about leaning on her- or so I thought. You know how Shakespeare wrote "And though she be but little, she is fierce"? Well, he must have been talking about Ginny GrothOlson . This woman is tough as nails. Without going into the details of my birth experience, let me just say that she played an indispensable role. In the end, with Ginny's support, I did trust my body and let go. I'm eternally grateful to her for all that she did to help me achieve a natural childbirth.

The first thing I will tell you is that it was my first pregnancy, I knew I wanted a natural birth and when I would call birth centers I had so many questions and many of them didn't want to spend the time to talk to me on the phone they just wanted me to come in and make an appointment so they could make $. This bothered me because I felt people who had this sort of attitude would also being impatient with me during my pregnancy and birth . However when I called the place Claudia was working she talked to me for such a long time and I felt a warm connection with her she made me feel informed, supported and confident. So it was a no brainer for me at that point. I asked the birth center that I want her to be my doula and they had her on schedule when I gave birth. Throughout our time together Catrice has felt more like a big sister with a wealth of birth knowledge. I've never felt more comfortable with a "birth practitioner" than I have with her. While we didn't utilize her doula service I felt like I did indeed have a doula with her as she was always quick to respond to my questions. PS She is a strong advocate of the daily 4-6 dates a day. As a first time mom from start to finish my birth was less than 10 hours and wasn't difficult at all. I attribute that to a lot of the information I was provided by Catrice.

As with any reviews, do your due diligence and form your own opinion. Pay more attention to folks who birthed with her, after all, are you a family looking for a midwife, or are you a doula looking for affirmation. You better bet a mother with a bad experience would be here reviewing for herself if she had bad things to say. Jackie was a God send for our family. She brought my little boy into the world, and I will go to her again if we are blessed with a second. She loves babies y'all. She loves being a mother. I found her very compassionate, attentive, and professional. Deliveries last a long time. Birthing naturally isn't easy. And, if you're choosing the midwife route, understand you're birthing your baby yourself, and your midwife is there to help that happen safely. My doula and I chatted about the experience after my son was born, and she said Jackie was great and also gave her the space to focus on me. Example that speaks to Jackie's character. One day during my pregnancy, I swore my baby didn't move very much. I was concerned and paranoid. I called Jackie and she was in Beaumont, on her way to Costco. She told us to meet her in the parking lot and she'd take a listen. We did just that, and Jackie was in the backseat with the ultrasound wand and goop letting me listen to my baby's heartbeat. Having a baby is a big deal. Invest your efforts into finding the right match for you and your family. You'll get so many opinions on who is awesome and who isn't. All I can say is ask questions about the experience, ask people you trust, and use that information to form your own opinion. Jackies was a nurse in a hospital. She worked there many years, and she left that setting to empower women to birth their babies under their terms. And that is what she does.
