This is my favorite place to eat, or drink or just hang out in Lucena, without a doubt…read more Restaurante Manolo is located inside the Costa Brava Praia Resort Hotel, and Manolo is the owner of both. He's also the executive chef of the restaurant. Forget the beautiful view of the oceanfront of Fagundes Beach; forget that this is the ONLY hotel in Lucena (there are other B&B's, but they don't have restaurants and don't have the view that this place has). You can sit poolside below a palm-covered outdoor seating area and enjoy some Spanish dishes (like suckling pig, paella, fideuá and others), raclette, lobster and other seafood dishes as well as Brazilian dishes. Manolo is quite the character, and will visit each and every table during your stay (he speaks Spanish and Portuguese only), joking and entertaining guests. He's one of the main reasons it's worth coming here! The food is the second reason. You will not find another place in Lucena that serves the same dishes or has the same quality. Their wine list is extensive and their prices are incredibly reasonable. If you're in the neighborhood, I highly recommend snacks, or lunch or just a bottle of bubbly poolside while in this tropical paradise.

I ate here twice with my wife; the first time the food was an absolute disaster--her lamb was overcooked and my duck was raw. I offered to switch plates with her and the first thing I tried was the purée, which was ice-cold. I put my fork in another part, and out came a hair. I was done eating at that point. The service that day was very good, and the manager suggested that it was a one-off, and asked if I would come back another time and try them again. I did, to my regret. The second time, the service was absolutely appalling. I sat 35 minutes waiting for a server in between courses. I had to ask for the check 3 times so I could leave. The food, while improved from the first time (no hairs), was disappointing. My lamb, this time, was raw in the center; my wife's fish was uncooked in the center. The plating is also rather childish. Needless to say, I won't be eating here a third time.

The service was ok (my wife's drink order was forgotten), but the food was disappointing: we ordered the deep fried Camembert (which we had at Gulliver Restaurante and loved), but here it was served barely lukewarm, and lacked the melty texture that makes it so good; the squid rings were completely unseasoned. My wife also had the Provençal octopus, but it also lacked seasoning. I had the "peixe Gulliver" (fish Gulliver), which I assumed would be their signature dish. Firstly, they serve the main courses on very large square plates, so they have a lot of blank space to fill. On one side of the plate, they place a shrimp/rice/tomato "risotto", but the shrimp were uncleaned and the rice was a bit overcooked; the fish (I was told was grouper), was a sad, small, thin overcooked, unseasoned piece of fish--a complete disappointment. To top it all off, I had gum stuck under my table like a cheap diner. The price, while not heart-stoppingly high, was too high considering the quality of the items. We really enjoyed Gulliver Restaurante, and I really wanted to like Gulliver Mar Restaurante too, but I cannot say that I did.
