Absolutely delicious Southern Indian food in Newark, Delaware? Hidden gem for sure. I really hope this place is doing well as we were the only table on a Wednesday afternoon, but then again I'm sure they are with such authentic flavors. Firstly I was missing that Hyderabadi taste buds in Delaware tried couple of indian restaurants but were not upto the mark . So one of my friend suggested this restaurant and ended up to the restaurant. The coriander chicken was an absolute standout. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the coriander added a delicious freshness to the dish. The spices used were balanced and the overall flavor was fantastic. Ordered lunch pickup from Biryani City in Newark DE on 3/8/2022 around 2PM EST. We ended up get food poisoning. Both adults in the house ate Chicken Biryani, Chana Masala, and Goat Saag and were done. All night it was an interesting experience. The next day was pretty bad too, basically couldn't do much. I decided to try Biryani City while I was in town and because I love Indian food. The food has good flavor but the heat levels are not what they are. I have eaten here twice in the past week and both times it was spicier than I normally have. I purposely ordered mild tonight and I think they actually made it medium. The other night I ordered mild to medium and I think they made it medium to hot. I would give this place 3.5 stars because of the limited protein and rice vs how much sauce they give one but 4 stars on the flavor of the sauce. The amount of food they serve for the price is so little. If you get a chicken dish, they give you 4-5 small cubes of chicken. Like what. Went there today at 3 PM on a Sunday with friends to have a late lunch. First we walked in and the guy was taking a Phone order and didn't even lift his head to say they saw us. Then proceeded to tell us that the kitchen was closed even though the restaurant was open and there was 10 people in there eating ( a table of 6 and 4) they only had biryani. This is especially egregious since when an Indian party walked in, they immediately got their water. And of course after all that, we never got refills. Also, we were told they were out of biryani. I understand this is more of a take out place, but if you're going to completely disrespect your dining customers like this, why even have a dining section. I have never seen such place in my life. I ordered 3 dishes which has more salt and oil and when i asked the waiter can we replace with new dish because of extra salt. The waiter reply was so horrible saying that this is long weekend where food will be like this and we will not replace with any new dish and the waiter also knows that it was too salt and oil. Most of looked like a fool today!! Went into Biryani City, food looked beyond great online, but the service for me was beyond lacking! I walked in reviewed the menu and found what I wanted, to my surprise it was listed as an appetizer (chilly chicken) and costed $13, but you can't put a price on good food (well actually you can, but you know what I mean). So I placed my order and they took my name; I was more than shocked when they said it would take 30 minutes, but okay. I explained, to the gentleman I'll be back in 30 minutes then. 37 minutes later I return, gentleman in the corner stops doing what he was doing comes over and asked can he help me? I stated, that I was there to pick up my order and gave my name. There was a bag in the corner, so I asked was that mine, he said, no....... and he had to go in the back and check on it. I said, check? A few minutes later he comes from the back smiling and tells me that my order would be ready in 10 minutes. Told him to cancel the order! 50 minutes for an appetizer please! The f#$ckers didn't even make my food, looked it up when I arrived, but didn't make it! I can speculate as to why, but I'll leave that alone, just like I leave this restaurant in the future! I got the chicken chicken biryani and the rice was almost white, had no flavor and just really left you wanting something else. The samosas were also pretty flavorless and tasted heavily of peas but with no other seasoning. Wouldn't recommend, there are far better places in the area.
