Worden State Park on a recent sunny afternoon, after having spent the previous four days camped along the Olympic coast near Joyce. We were also particularly thrilled to see a sign for "live music" starting in just a few hours! We got our campsite set up, enjoyed a little afternoon snack, then headed down to Taps on our bikes. This former guardhouse is perched near the Fort's entrance, and there are even some of the original jail cells inside (yes, you can sit inside of them if you dare)! Even though it was a weekday afternoon, the place was packed inside and out. Lucky us, we managed to snag the last table in the beer garden. I sat down while the dude went inside to order (sadly, they don't offer table service). The band had just stepped offstage for a break, so I enjoyed a little people watching (and tried to ignore the chilly sea breeze) while I waited for Dude to return with my beer. The wait stretched into over 30 minutes until he finally returned, reporting a rather large line (and only one bartender) inside. The beers were also $9/each. But hey, we were on vacation. You kinda expect these things, I guess. Finally, the band returned and played some pretty great music. We finished our beers and now it was my turn to head inside to the slow-as-molasses bar line. By now, there were two people working the counter, although only one of them seemed to be actually pouring beers, making cocktails, etc for those of us in the beer line. The other one was mostly focused on the 3-4 customers who had been lucky enough to snag seats (and, apparently, premium service) directly at the bar. There was a lot of mumbling in the line about how slow and inefficient it all was. However, as (quite literally) the only game in town, we all pretty much had no choice but to either wait for our beers, or slump back to our campsites for Rainiers. Luckily, by the time I returned with our second round, Dude had scored a sunny table closer to the band, so it was starting to feel like summer again. In fact, we were having such a lovely time that Dude decided we may as well enjoy another round (hey we weren't driving). $60 of beers later, we drifted back to the campsite after what was a pretty enjoyable, if not at times frustratingly slow, experience. We also returned a few days later for another show, and they seemed much better staffed. Perhaps our experience the first night was not common.

As a frequent visitor to Port Townsend, I had no idea this little taphouse existed until I saw it…read morepop up on Yelp recently. What a gem this place is! It's located in the less touristy marina area of PT. Or, in other words, if you take a left (rather than the traditional right) getting off the ferry it's about a mile away. It's definitely worth the hunt though! The interior of the taphouse is light and bright, with plenty of beer, wine, and cider to choose from (as well as NA bevvies and tons of snack options too). But the real gem here is their beachfront beer garden! With plenty of seating and colorful outdoor umbrellas, the place seriously made us feel like were were somewhere beachy and semi-tropical, especially on the warm summer day of our visit. We enjoyed a couple of lazy hours at a well-shaded picnic table, with a cool breeze blowing and a tasty beer or two. This will definitely be on our Port Townsend rotation from now on!

Finally a week ago, I was able to have two orders, one that was a BBQ flavor and the other traditional hot. We also ordered a basket of tater tots. This was the best item for our entire evening by far. Such a generous order, too. We didn't think we'd finish them when they arrived, but given the quality of the wings (not so great), we did mow them all up. The dings: well, the wings were just meh. Fatty, not crispy, smoke flavor ok...but neither the BBQ nor the hot were particulary good. Big ding: ZERO white wine. Last time, ok, there was no Chardonnay, I can accept that (barely...this is NOT a Chardonnay kind of place). But this time, red only. Apparently they don't stock any white...I can see where it might not be a big draw, but hey, just buy a BOX of it, keep it in the fridge and someone will order it in the 30 days the box holds its freshness. Second big ding: NO darker, heartier beer than lagers and IPAs. Not even an Alaskan Amber in a bottle. I guess if the guests don't drink it, then why order it. We probably won't come back except for when the Badd Doggs Blues Society plays, but couldn't we BRING in what we want to drink and pay a corkage? Or do we have to go out in the parking lot and sneak a shot? I really WANT to support this place, but, as of now, except for the tots, I'm not sure what I'd come here for. And that's not enough. Bring back Zoog's breaded Jalapeno poppers!

The chicken wings weren't a bad addition either. Bartender/server was very friendly and helpful when ordering. I do think it maintains daily with just one employee behind the bar. When on the Port Townsend waterfront, it is an option to stop in for the "almost saloon" setting.

Not a bowl of ranch, but a tiny side thimble. Meanwhile, there's a big bottle of mayonnaise on the table for free. Simply ridiculous. It also didn't help the food was mediocre and the bar was filled with bugs. Too many other nice places in Port Townsend to eat or have a beer....unless, of course, you want to pay an extra $2 for ranch after ordering a $20 sandwich and a $9 beer.

5/13/26: stopped in to check out some local wine after visiting Sol Duc Falls…read more Not only were we treated to good wine, but we enjoyed some local talent (Johnny) playing guitar & singing (yes, we sang along a bit; no, we were not tipsy :-) ). Washington's wines, or at least this region's, lean toward the dry side. Wind Rose did have a moscato they identified as sweet but I would say semi-sweet. It was still good! The appetizers we enjoyed were the meat & cheese plate, baked brie w/ sour cherry, and the olive tapenade & hummus plate. All very tasty. The server was a young French gentleman who was polite & friendly.

The only bartender on staff was super friendly and let us sample a few taps to help us figure out what we liked the most!
