First time camping here and needless to say, we'll be back! We tent camped in Purple 2A from Saturday - Tuesday and had a great experience. We met tons of friends, enjoyed the 4th of July events, and loved the beautiful area. For future campers, Purple sites were great - right across from the bath house and each had a picnic table. Only downside was that they didn't have a fire ring, but it was too hot for a fire anyway! The Bath camping spots across from us did have fire rings. Everyone we met from employees to other guests were fabulous and made our experience amazing. Can't say enough good things. read more

Like other people I researched before my trip. I didn't know what to expect because there is quite a few poor reviews. I'm so glad I didn't listen to the reviews! My husband had to work out of town so we figured why not get some use out of the camper instead of staying in a hotel. I came down for the weekend to help him set up. The check in process was easy and the office staff is friendly. There are full time residents here. Everyone we met was friendly. We had a few issues we had to fix on our golf cart and my husband didn't have certain tools he needed. One of the maintenance employees lent my husband the tool he needed and was helpful. Our site didn't have a fire pit ring. My husband asked about getting one and soon after we got one. The Inlet at Lanier has playgrounds, a pool, laundry facility, and a dog park. There are different level of sites. We stayed on a basic site (R37) with full hook up. The basic sites are close together but not as bad as previous reviews made it seem. If this was a vacation for us we would have booked one of the other sites closer to the water and dock because of personal preference. Just call and let the office know what you're looking for and I'm sure they will help you out. We will definitely be coming back here! If you don't like something about an establishment, express your concerns and give the business a chance to fix it! Don't just complain and give a bad review! read more

The person at the check-in on Friday was extremely rude more than once. Not just rude, extremely rude and uncaring and unfriendly.

We rented a small trailer at this campground. The floor felt nasty on my feet and turned the bottom of my feet black. Our bed sheets were filthy, looked like some one sprayed something all over the bottom half of the sheets. My eyes were itching and burning and it turns out they've never changed the air filter. The couch was covered with stains. Dirty utensils were in the drawer. They did send some one to change the filter and sheets. When we contacted the main office in Florida they apologized and said they could only give us a 10% discount on the next time we stayed. They should have given us at least half of our money back!!! read more

Been calling it home since November! Beautiful place close to what we need and want. Has a laundry room also the bathhouse has 3 showers always clean and taken care of. The office has arcade games 2 pools tables a little store with your basics the staff is incredible very nice people. The people that come here are also a pleasure we love when we get new "neighbors" A little park for the kids to play at We completely love it here and highly recommend it! read more

We stayed at this campground a couple of times. The last time, after mentioning to the campground hosts the partying that went on outside our camper throughout the night when we're trying to sleep, the permanent/long-term people swarmed our campsite area being extremely rude and obnoxious for the remainder of our stay. Obviously, we were the outcasts for wanting a nice quiet weekend getaway to a destination we had previously enjoyed. Never again. read more

Do you want to experience a campground that has not been updated since 1972? Then this place is for you! You will be greeted by signs saying DONT do this and DONT do that. The shower rooms are locked and require key entrance, though what they are locking out is a mystery, since the facilities are old and run down. The laundry facilities looked nice. But we couldn't use them since they are only open from 9 am to 3 pm. Leave your laundry after closing and it will be locked up until morning (more signs telling you what not to do). We tried to buy an ice cream from the store. Sorry, we were told, the machine isn't working. Fine, we'll have a milkshake instead. Sorry, that machine is broken as well. But the best part was the campsites they reserved for overnight campers. Our site was located next to the ginormous propane tank, and right next to the backhoe that was digging a new culvert to drain all the standing water from near the campsite. You couldn't ask for a better breeding ground for mosquitos. Oh, three roadways also surrounded the site. Meanwhile, there were several beautiful campsites for short stay right near the pavilion and the river. Positives:. You can see a real working pay phone that is 40 years old on the front porch. Bottom line, stay away from this place unless you are desperate. read more

Lanier's is a nice, small, family campground. The reservation desk, which is inside the gate, was a little difficult to find since there is minimal signage. It would be nice to see signs pointing to the different locations. The campground seems to be tightly packed with permanent residents and also spread out over a lot of land. The bath house was key entry and very clean every time I went up there. However, there was no water pressure. We stayed on site 10A, waterfront electric and water. When we originally called we were offered an interior water and electric site and I'm glad I didn't take that. We looked at the site (#43) when we were there. It had a drainage ditch that ran through it, there was trash where it led into the marsh. There was also a porta-john close by. The sites seemed to be rounded instead of flat. All the sites were grass and not dirt or gravel which we liked. Lots are deep but narrow. We had enough space for our high wall camper. The guy next to us had a tent. Next to them was a site with 3 tents on it. When they left a 35' camper moved in it's spot. So there is plenty of room to back in a large vehicle. Our only problem with our site was the fire pit was bolted in near the electric pole of the site next to us. It made it difficult to have privacy for a campfire, not to mention the campfires are uncomfortably close to the campers. The people on the other side even mentioned that they were trying to keep their fire small so it didn't catch my camper on fire. That was a disappointment. The rules are not enforced. Kids of the permanent tenants were all over the place on golf carts. Most were not driving age. Dogs of permanent residents were out without leashes often. One near us had three little dogs, one of which yapped for a nice long time while we were trying to sleep at 10. With that being said, quiet time is 11p - 7a, so they were within their noisy time. The dumpsters were easy to find. The dump station was a little harder to locate but it was easy to maneuver. Again, signs pointing to other areas would have helped. There is a pier nearby in the campground. The beach (Surf City) was literally 5 minutes away. The pool was nice and clean with a lot of chairs. There is a Walmart Supermarket, Food Lion, Dunkin Donuts, Hardee's and lots of local spots nearby. We found a pizzeria named JTs that was great. read more

This is not an RV Campground. It is more like an RV Mobile Home Park. It has no cable TV even though advertised as such and WiFi is only available very close to office. The campground website shows lot of trailers in it but what it doesn't show is that approximately 95% of the lots are occupied by old trailers that are permanent residents. Old porches and landings are common as are Tuff Shed storage buildings. We arrive at lot 1B and immediately turned around and drove back to the office, driving on dusty roads and passing five (5) large, overflowing, smelly dumpsters on the way. Arriving back at the office we informed the staff that this was just not acceptable for us and we are not that picky. This was the first camp sight we ever refused to stay in. To Lanier's credit, the staff did give us a full refund and we found a nicer better park 20 miles away. read more

This place is all about location location location, I've been here a few months was told it's going up to 800$ a month from 600$ because it's peak season.... It's literally damn near empty.....They shut down the pool early when it was still 97 degrees outside, the staff is lazy, rude and does literally nothing for me to want to stay here. You can only use the laundry when the front office is open which hours vary on their level of laziness. They stressed the fact that if I'm going to have a dog here I need to pick up after him, they have poop bag stations but lack trash cans... go figure these already lazy staff members don't want to take the trash out from there as well.... Just unbelievable I have stayed at places with shittier locations that offered way more. Recently we're not even allowed to have fires, says the state shut down fires but I just don't believe that. Complete trash if I were a rich dude I'd buy this place kick all the staff who lives here out and revamp. read more

First off, the location is nice because it is on the waterway and is close to Surf City. The price isn't horrible for the location, but it is bad for the quality of the campground. First, the office is difficult to find, even just driving up. You're obviously around a campground but the gate doesn't have any real signs pointing you in the correct direction. The campground is primary for monthly or annual campers, not overnight or weekend stays. Our site was "waterfront", but that is only because it is near the boatlaunch. The area is tight, especially with my one ton dually and 41' fifth wheel. I had to hold up traffic to make the turn and back up. Not for the weak drivers. The sites are so narrow, we couldn't open our awning. I checked out a day early and was told there is a 24hr notice requirement for early checkout, which I hadn't read anywhere or was informed about it even though I said we might leave a day early when we checked in. There are many, many kids driving golf carts around (under 16) without adult supervision. Not that I mind, but your parent or an adult damn well better be in the front seat of the vehicle with you. Lastly, and most damaging to our stay, was what happened when we checked in. I was told to drive down the wrong road and subsequently brushed the low-hanging branches and tore the roof of my fifth wheel in a few locations. When I spoke with the manager, she brushed off the issue and said she would talk with the employee who I checked in with and call me. She never called, I emailed twice and finally got a reply, but now she isn't answering my emails. I will never stay here again nor will I recommend this location to anyone. read more

Way overpriced! $98 for one night! $20 deposit for a gate key. Have to wear a wrist band to use pool. Most we ever paid traveling around the country. That was with a 10% good Sam discount. Great campground, wonderful people! My family has been coming to Laniers for years and we love it. Don't let the one star reviews keep you away. Yes there are a lot of permanent trailers, and some are older, so what! Every trip I meet nice people who call Laniers home, many of whom will share some local fishing tips with you if you chat for a bit. There is no "swamp land" as one reviewer stated. There is Marsh Land because your on the intercostal with some amazing views. This is a fun and family oriented campground. I will preface this by saying I am not an avid camper. In fact, I am no kind of camper at all, seeing as I haven't been camping since I was 12. However, Jeff and I wanted to spend our last weekend of the summer at the beach, but didn't want to spend $250 on 2 nights in a hotel room. What to do, what to do....maybe we bite the bullet, buy a cheap tent, drive to the beach Saturday morning, and stay at a campground....um......ok! For the unbelievably low price of $24 (and $15 dollars for a key to the bathhouse which they return to you upon you returning the key), you can stay at Lanier's which is a 3 minute drive to the beach in Surf City. So, we called them up, booked a spot, bought a Coleman tent at Target, and headed down Saturday morning. We spent the day at the beach until we felt our skin was crispy enough and needed shade, headed to Buddy's for some beer and wings, and made our way to the campsite around 5. We really had no clue what to expect, but when we pulled in we realized most people aren't tent people...they are RV/Camper/Trailer people. So, when we got our site assignment from the nice lady at the office, we assumed we would be in some backwoods part of the grounds, shunned in a corner for not owning a souped up RV. But nope, we were right on the main drag, about 50 feet from the bathhouse, and about 300 feet from the office. Sweet! Easy access! Each site has a picnic bench, room for a car, and room for a huge tent, as well an electric hook up if you chose to use it, and a water spout, and a grated fire pit for charcoal grilling. We set up our tent fairly quickly, added on the rain cover rather not quickly, enjoyed some beers, and took turns using the bathhouse key for showering. The bathhouse is extremely clean, with 4 showers. I will say when I went to take my shower at 6:30, there was little hot water, but I kind of expected that, and the cool water actually felt nice on my burnt skin. There our outlets for hairdryers, etc. as well. We left to go out to dinner, and when we returned around 10 pm, we set up the inside of the tent with blankets and pillows, and it started raining....then pouring...then sideways pouring. Awesome. But, our lovely tent kept us dry, so no worries. I will say, although our plot was so close to bathhouse and office, this also meant it was right next to the main road...which meant people driving by, at all hours of the night. Real annoying. But, I still highly recommend Lanier's as an alternative to a hotel room. You really cannot beat the price. And the amenities are great (I think I forgot to mention the huge pool). We will most def be back!!! read more

This campground probably falls in the top 5 that I've camped at. For $24 you can't beat a place that has a good store/arcade, a security gate, and clean facilities. The people who run this place are extremely friendly and accommodating. This campground has a nice pool and caters very well to families. The restrooms/showers were pretty clean for a campground and the grounds itself were very clean as well. While not on the beach, the proximity to Surf City make this a great place to camp for the weekend. I'll definitely be back! read more

Not impressed with customer service and have health issues. While staying a week at Laniers we had several health issues. The maintenance staff was working on the sewer beside our site and they disconnected our fresh water hoop up hose and laid it on ground beside pile of dug up soil and open pit. They also used another fresh water hose of ours to rinse off the dug up sewer. We addressed this along with other things relevant to this incident and some of the maintenance staff actually laughed and made snide comments to us. The owner (Mr. Lanier) of campground was present and offered no apology. Other issues were all of the dumpsters were overflowing onto ground to at least two days until any trash removal occurred. Boat ramp in poor shape with little to no access to ICW during low tide from no dredging. read more

This camp ground was disgusting. We were right next to a swamp and the smell was awful. Flies were taking over and there was no close dumpsters for taking garbage. We stayed 4 nights and will not be back. One worker was very rude to me. Showers were filthy. Worse I've seen in a campground. Globs of hair in shower that was not cleaned up the entire time we were there. Shower stalls were very scungy. The price was much more then a state park and not worth it at all. I can not stress enough how filthy it was. read more

This is not a campground but an RV parking lot with about 10 spaces called camping spots. The restrooms/ bath house was a long walk to get to and not clean. Not many trash dumpsters around for trash. The pool was closed in the evening because it rained in the morning. Loud maintenance workers in the morning. We left early based on the horrible conditions and was not given a refund. I would not recommend this "campground " to my worst enemy. Avoid at all costs! read more

My wife and I camp a lot in a tent. We have camped at Lanier's twice now and both times we were infested with red ants. Also, there was a porto-potty next to the site and it stunk the whole weekend. We will not be back !!! read more

A Trashy Trailer Park sums up this place. We stayed for seven days while we were in the area visiting relatives. We were greeted with a locked gate, no guard ,or working intercom. My wife had to walk to the office while our 36 foot class a motor and towed car blocked the entrance. After check- in, and being required to leave a $20 cash deposit for the gate key we drove past three dumpsters full of garbage with smelly garbage and bugs all over the ground next to them. Once in our "premium water front site" we were in between old trashy trailers, the window screen for the one on our patio side was laying on the ground, in addition there was trash in the bushes behind us, not what we had expected or paid for. On the weekend there was a constant parade of golf carts driving around the trailer park roads. We watched the same golf carts go by us again and again some with young kids driving. I guess this is how the locals entertain themselves?? The location has the potential to be very nice, but again this place is an overpriced DUMP! We had a great stay in the area but were happy to leave this trashy place behind. There are not many other choices in this area but try to avoid this one. read more

This is a trailer park more than a campground with year round residents. It took me a while to find my spot and because the map on the web is not realistic I got lost for a minute. Went around a house and there was a motorhome in the front lawn about 10 ft from the house and another in the driveway, seriously? I take it you want to maximize profits when you have a business but in this case even if you tried you wouldn't be able to squeeze another RV or tent, I take it back, I bet pretty soon you will see 5 units in front of the office building also 5 more in the backyard of the house. Overfilled dumpsters Paid more than we paid for a resort in Texas last summer (paid 62 for a full hookup last September near Dallas beautiful and comfortable place). Took one star for comfort, one star for value and one star for misleading information on map because sites are way too close to each other. Gave two stars for the nice people in the office read more

It was our first time to Lanier's Campground over Memorial weekend, and boy it was packed like sardines in a can. It is close by the Waterways, less than 10 mins drive, but it takes 20 mins to get out of the intersection outside the campground! The staff were friendly but there isn't enough of them to cope with the holiday crowd. Don't understand why we have to use a cardkey to get into the bath houses, and my cardkey never worked right when I needed most during the 2 nights stay. Afterall, It is just a simple-no-frills shower & toilet stalls. Didn't get any hotwater shower inspite it is 8 in the morning. The tents area is just right outside the bathhouses! How convenient for the tent-campers and how inconvenient for others that have to walk around to get to the bath houses. Overall, I say it is a pretty good family campground if it it not overcrowded, cardkey works like it suppose to be and that golf carts adhere to some common sense traffic rules. read more
