I came in wanting a dark black purple and got jet black with no hint of purple (see photo). I called the next day complaining and wanting to talk to my hairdresser Lee to reschedule further out when the black was more faded out. I was assuming the redo would be free of charge or at least discounted, but they got back to me in three weeks saying they only do free redos if it's within a week. I am upset with my service as I paid for something I didn't ask for and didn't get any discounts or deals for the next appointment. I wish I could give this business a good review, the staff was kind and the vibe of the shop was nice too. read more

I looked at Yelp reviews and was a little worried at first but so glad I gave it a shot! I checked Google after and it has 4.8 stars with over 1k reviews. The salon was nice and inviting and everyone was friendly. Tekendrick cut my hair and it's PERFECT! I wanted a specific look for my layers and bangs and he made it look even better than I imagined. For Richmond, I think the price was awesome for the service and quality. I will definitely be back and highly recommend it! My only note is the parking in the area sucks so give yourself some extra time to find some before your appointment. read more

Sarah did a great job with my coarse, thick head of hair - on a 63 year old. My hair can lay flat if not cut well and Sarah did a great deal of razor cutting which gave my hair more lift. My first visit to Bishops and I lucked out with Sarah! She knew how to solve the challenges with my hair cut. My hair was fun to play with this morning! This was my most expensive disappointment ever. The price was outrageous and they didn't come through whatsoever. I paid 300 (including tip) for a cut, balayage and style. What I received was NOT a balayage. I even booked a second appointment to fix the color, and they still couldn't complete my request after showing multiple reference photos. I also left each time with my hair still very wet. I even noticed days later that my hair cut was uneven and lacked layers, which we discussed including. I had posted a review earlier, but removed it because I felt bad. But if I were planning on spending this much money, I'd want an honest review. read more

I had 2 appointments ever here. It was really easy to schedule online, picking the date, time, provider, and type of appointment with clear prices listed for the different services available. There are many openings for a simple short cut. My first cut was with Katie Maxey. When I wanted to adjust the style after showing the picture, they accommodated to the best of their ability. Since I had my hair cut down a little lower, they had to change the service to a skin fade, which ended up being $39.60 with tip. I thought it was average at best. I made a second appointment, this time with TK Griffin, and made sure to indicate "skin fade" so that there would be no confusion. When I showed a sample picture of what I wanted, they said that they didn't have the tools for it, so they would go as close as they could. Additionally, when I got home, I noticed long strands of uncut hair around my head and had to touch up at home. As a result, after two attempts, I would recommend elsewhere for hair styling needs. read more

I walked in here thinking from the outside it was a normal men's barber shop. It's not, so let's get that part out of the way. I was already there and long overdue for a haircut so I thought whatever I'd give it a try. There was nobody getting a cut or waiting when I walked in but they/them told me I still had to make an appt. I said ok. Then they told me I had to do it through their app or some nonsense despite being there in the store and it was going to be an hour wait so I left. There are 2 other barbershops across the street about 3 blocks down, I was in and out in 20 mins for $15 less than what they were going to charge me at bishops. read more

I have never gotten my hair color professionally done. I have always had a friend do my hair with one of those hair boxes from the store. I was very nervous but excited because I wanted to try something new & it came out so beautifully! My roommate recommended this hair place & now I am recommending it to you guys! They exceeded my expectations & much more. I had the amazing TK do my hair & he listened to everything I wanted for my hair & was very sweet & patient. I walked in to Bishops not knowing what type of haircut I wanted and not knowing if my 1-yr old baby would corporate long enough for me to get any sort of haircut. Kiki was so understanding and patient. She gave me a fabulous cut and was super comfortable and accommodating while I held my baby the entire time. Her hand was soo steady and my baby's movement didn't bother her at all. She said that clients often bring their kids along for a haircut. I was really looking forward to getting a beard trim at Bishop's and I was met with a cold shoulder and very poor customer service. I stood there while two of the stylists chatted away. When I asked if there was anything else I needed to do to check in, one of the stylists was not very pleasant at all. I took my money and walked out. I will not be going back to Bishop's. I received the worst haircut of my life here 6 months ago and I'm still trying to grow it out. I have long hair past my bra strap. The instructions I gave were I want to dye my hair natural dark (dye job was fine) and I want a trim. I also said I need to tie my hair back easily at work so not too short layers or anything. She took out a razor and ran it through my hair and proceeded to give me extremely short thick chunky uneven layers at the top , crown, and back of my hair. Then there's a long gap and the rest of the hair was long. Basically, she gave me a long mullet haircut. Multiple people commented on how bad my haircut was after. There's nothing about my instructions, personal style or preexisting haircut I wanted trimmed that would indicate I'd want this hairstyle. My layers are so short I couldn't tie my hair back without pinning it, they would stick straight up in the air when I'd wake up. For this monstrous job, I had to pay 250 dollars. I travel for work and I have a stylist in Texas, CT, and california, and I know on average for a dye job and trim I pay about 100 dollars plus tip. I am not going to call out my stylist by name. I am calling out Bishops... WHAT BUSINESS DO YOUR STYLISTS HAVE CHARGING THE PRETENTIOUS PRICE OF 250 dollars? Have you vetted their skills? What quality control do you have? For 250 bucks the stylists better be banging out some of the best styles on the east coast. Bonus, she stained my shirt with dye. Cherry on top she didn't shampoo the dye out of the back of my hair so I had caked crispy dye flakes in the back of my head and had to shampoo it again when I got home. read more

Bishops is an absolutely delightful place to get your hair done!! Their location is super close to VCU, right on W. Broad St, and I decided to check it out after I found a free coupon for a haircut, and it was great! I went in for a walk-in, and they saw me right away, and gave me a water. I believe my hair dresser was Jessica, and she was a friendly, bubbly, kind, VCU Grad. I had her chop a few inches off, and now my hair looks wonderful! The decor of the place is really fun, and modern. They are definitely extremely inclusive too. They even have student discounts, You should check them out next time you need a hair cut! read more

We love Bishop's on Broad! They are always so friendly and responsive. My partner and I frequent this location since its opening in September. LGBT+ friendly and a safe space for the queer community. Amelia is our favorite stylist! She is so sweet and pays incredible attention to detail. She will talk you through what she thinks is best for you specifically and will work with you to decide a style for you. A big plus is that they're also dog friendly and provide water/treats for our fuzzy friends. The staff was so polite. The shop is the cleanest shop I've ever been to. They sanitize in between each customer as well. I was a bit nervous with wearing my natural hair, so I wanted to get a little color to make it pop. The place was setup perfectly to make you feel safe in regard to covid, and the person who did my hair was even double-masked. the staff was friendly, which I appreciated. This was my first time getting my hair dyed but I knew exactly what I wanted. after The appointment I only had half the hair done. And it seemed like that was it. Nothing else was done. And it was pretty, but not what I wanted. The person called me later and said they were unsatisfied and wanted to fix it. The next day I give another chance. The colors were not close to what I wanted at all. like I said it was pretty. But blotchy and also not the colors I wanted. they messed up and made my hair orange. Then tried again with another color and still didn't get it right. I was trying to be patient but it still wasn't right. Ended up red. They said my hair held the red more. Still. I spoke with another professional and they said that it should've set longer. it was not at all what I wanted and I paid a lot for it. Not to mention the bottom half washed out within a week. And when they " lifted" my hair ends it wasn't actually lifted at all. overall very unsatisfied. could've been better if I just used box dye. read more
