Got my haircut and treatment from Michael and he did a fabulous job! First off, the salon itself was very clean, and front desk was very friendly. I really appreciated how prompt they were about my appointment time. All their products were bumble & bumble and it smelled fantastic. Michael, my stylist is extremely friendly and a great conversationalist. He's very communicative and knowledgeable about hair, hair color, and extensions. He made me feel very welcome and gave me great advice and suggestions on my hair. I had a lot of breakage from years of bleaching and he did a great job blending my damaged ends into layers. He also really listened to what I wanted and made sure to communicate every step of the way. Not to mention, I received one of the best head massages for my added hair treatment! Overall a great experience and I will be considering hair extensions with Michael in the future! read more

Edit: I was contacted by Elizabeth one of the owners and was told I could have my hair fixed at no cost by another stylist. She also let me know the person who did my hair was no longer with them (good choice!!) I got my hair re-done by Lauren** and she was great although it was mostly toning if I'm not mistaken. It turned out a lot better than before and the cut was not crooked thank god! There was a problem at the register as the girl said there was not a note on my account so I had to pay the full amount, but contacted Elizabeth again and she reimbursed me a couple days later. I'm not giving a full 5 stars only because the girl who took my payment made no effort in listening and told me to "come back and talk to Elizabeth" which seemed a bit dismissive. All in all though despite that, it was a better experience, and the owners care a lot about customer satisfaction! So I would still recommend it! ---- Unfortunately, have to leave a not so great review for my first and only visit here. I saw Richard, who was very nice. Everyone was nice. I wanted a simple cut, no layers, but I wanted my hair thinned out (I have a lot of hair), and I also wanted color. Nothing fancy just some peak-a-boos all over so I could eventually transition into a balayage. I showed him a picture, he looked at it and got straight to work. Everything went great, we were chatting small talking etc :) I do have some experience working at a salon in Menlo Park, and watching him I was getting just a little worried as his techniques seemed a little basic (maybe it's just hindsight though). Anyway, he finished, washed (very very hot water ouch) and blow dried my hair (it also burned quite a bit. But I am not the type to complain unfortunately so I kept my mouth shut) Anyway I was happy up until I finally saw my hair. I mean I smiled but inside I was pretty sad. I went home, my boyfriend was like what happened to your hair I said what do you mean? It's fine.(didn't think it was THAT bad, notenough for my boyfriend who never notices anything to notice) I take a closer look in the mirror, the color is uneven and my hair cut is crooked / uneven. Random long strands etc. No biggie. Right? I'll just go in and have it fixed. So I call make an appointment to fix it and go in. He apologizes and takes a few minutes to fix it. Although it's better than before it's still not what you'd expect after paying $250+. Been wearing it in a pony ever since waiting for it to grow back. :( I'm giving an extra star because everyone was very nice and the salon itself is super cute. read more

Chic clean modern aesthetics gave the studio a very up-and-coming feel, making me hopeful for a similar haircut especially for the boojie price. Nice staff, made me a cup of cinnamon tea while I waited. I had very long hair and came in for a pixie/layered bob look after cropping off the long locks to donate. I showed a handful of pictures of what I wanted and what I didn't want. Ultimately, I told her to please not make me look like a boy or look like my mother from 1990. That's unfortunately what I got :( she told me I had thin hair and it wouldn't look like the pictures (I have NEVER been told this in my entire life). I figured I couldn't be mad at a cut that was left up to her creative expression - maybe that's just how she does those cuts and other ask for this..? - and gave it a week or so to grow in. I was still daily fighting awkward volume in the wrong places that didn't flatter my face well, wearing hats and hair bands to try fixing it. My husband and friends were disappointed in it too. I had to go back and have it fixed which they did without an extra charge so A+ service! The pictures of other haircuts done here are beautiful and the experience itself was fine. It just wasn't a good cut for me, which could be my fault walking in cold with a vague idea of my ideal cut for such a dramatic change (13" donated). Maybe you'll have better luck :) read more

Thanks to Tori for one of the fastest haircuts (if not the fastest!) that I've ever received! And it looks awesome too :) I have really thin strands of hair but a ton of it, and my last haircut had me in the salon for about 3 hours. At Seven Hills, I was in and out in about 45 minutes. All of the staff were super friendly, Tori included; I also really appreciated how attentive she was to my priorities (i.e. wash and go, making it feel lighter, being able to put it in a ponytail). Two stars instead of one because the owner of the salon is super sweet and tried to solve my problem. I met Elizabeth after my second trip to the salon because she had to fix damage done by Shannon. DO NOT GO TO SHANNON!!! Shannon butchered my hair so bad. I wanted a micro-stitch highlight and a trim. Instead got multi-sized highlights, some fat and chunky and some were micro but none were consistent. The layers were all over the place. She cut over 3 inches off of my hair which is a lot when your hair is shoulder length and you only asked for a shape up. The cut from Shannon was terrible. I couldn't style my hair at all. She used scissors with notches in it to thin out my hair. All she did was cut holes into my hair. 2 weeks later I go in to see Elizabeth for my "repair". It did look better after she worked on it but it had to go even shorter. The color was not what I wanted either. The haircut was an improvement but still uneven spots which prevents my hair from flowing properly. I did set a follow up appt with another stylist who I watched while getting my hair fixed. She seemed to have really good skills. By the time my 4th appt rolled around she was gone. I decided it was best to cancel my appt and move on. Found this gem on Yelp. I was looking for a studio with a good reputation to take me in and decided to give this local business a try. I've only ever had my hair dyed twice - one was a terrible experience, and the other was decent, but the hair color needed to be fixed since some parts were looking brassy to me. This was my very first time at Seven Hills, and it was amazing! It's close to where I live, which is a plus, and from the moment I got there, everyone was accommodating and professional. I waited no more than 3 minutes for Shannon, and after greeting me we talked about what I wanted done. While washing and cutting my hair, she gave me lots of little tips and tricks that I can do myself at home for better hair care. Shannon did a wonderful job! I'm a guy with long, curly hair. Sometimes I even get ringlets. This has made the long layered cut I like difficult for quite a few stylists, the back bounces up and pretty soon I'm rockin the lord Farquad from Shrek. Tried Seven Hills on a whim and I couldn't be more stoked. Caitlin cut my hair. She's totally an artist! Again my cut was out of the box and nuanced, but Caitlin was right there with me, even sprucing up my vision (as one would expect, she's been at it 15 years). What an absolutely wonderful experience I had with Richard. I went in for a partial balayage. I wanted my greys to disappear naturally into my brownish red hair. Not only did he get it spot on but it looks so incredibly natural. Not to mention I have bangs. Which some stylists hate. He not only got them tamed, but blended with little silver strands. I love how they use high-quality products like Bumble and Bumble, but even more so, I love how genuine and kind their staff is. I always pass this little studio in my way home and decided to look into it after seeing Bumble & Bumble products in the window. I'm new to town and was in desperate need of a haircut. I was able to book my appointment online, which was a huge plus! I simply selected when I wanted to come in and all of the open slots for everyone in the salon appeared. It wasn't like sending in a request and going back and forth all day. I really appreciated this option! I came in 10 minutes early and was welcomed by the receptionist. He said they served mocktails with sparkling water, lemonade ice cubes, and a little orange juice. It was so good! Tori came out to get me and was friendly from the get go. I showed her my reference photo and she confirmed the aspects of the cut I wanted. She cut my bangs dry and then shampooed. She styled my hair and it was perfect!! My hair looks and feels amazing. Tori was funny and easy to chat with. She told me about a couple of the products she had used and then walked me up front after. I paid $50 for the cut, plus $15 tip. It was very reasonable, as I have long and thick hair. I will definitely be back! read more

What more can I say: nice staff, adorable salon, excellent hair products, and a kickass doo! (oh and I walked away with some food and music recommendations. dope.) I'm a convert. I moved to Richmond a couple of months ago and got a haircut and a bang trim at Red Salon. I'm not going to knock Red Salon here, but I will say that I enjoyed my experience at Seven Hills so much that I'm going to continue with them. The salon uses Bumble and Bumble which I love, because B&B products are pretty much magical. There's great music on in the background, and the salon has a laid-back, cozy, but clean and sleek vibe all at the same time. I much prefer the space to other salons I've been to that make you feel like you're in a hardcore hairstyling factory. My hairstylist, Elizabeth, was chill and nice to talk to, and oh yeah, she knows her shit. She was very attentive to my needs and gave me great tips for upkeep. The front-of-the-house man, Jay, was also really personable and not rude as I've experienced at soooo many salons in the past. He and Elizabeth, as newlyweds, make a great business team. My haircut was also fairly priced. I was scared to try another hair salon, especially one so new, but I'm really glad I did. I came in a couple weeks ago to get my hair cut by Haley. I could not have been happier with the haircut and the whole experience. Haley was wonderful. She spent lots of time getting to know my hair, learning what I wanted, and giving me tips on products to try and ways to style it. She was very generous with her time and I think it really paid off. The over-all experience of was also great. The space is absolutely gorgeous- hip but welcoming. And all of the staff are friendly and helpful. They offer free tea and lots of great magazines while you wait. The haircut was definitely reasonably priced ($35 for Haley), but you still felt pampered. FANTASTIC salon! I went there for the first time after trying a couple different salons that were just "ok." I picked Elizabeth due to some prior reviews and couldn't be happier. I had fairly long hair and was just ready for something different so my very first appointment I showed her some pictures of what I had in mind (going to just under shoulder-length range), she gave me advice on which ones would work with my hair, and went to work. I have to say I've NEVER left a salon loving my hair yet this was my first! I think she was worried I wouldn't be happy because people cutting nearly 8-10 inches off typically are emotionally attached, and maybe with a different stylist that would have happened, but I've never looked back, I love my new style and continue to return for touch-ups. I have gotten a haircut here with Elizabeth 5-6 times. My haircut is very difficult (blonde, thin, and fade male cut), but she always does a fantastic job. Always get complements! Also, love the studio. They have complementary coffee/tea/water they offer as soon as you walk through the door. Everyone is friendly (they all know my name), and a very relaxing a pleasant experience every time! More importantly, they do a great job with difficult male cuts. read more

I had been going here to to get my roots bleached for a while now & the last time I went, my hair was falling out in chunks & continued to fall out like that a week after my appointment & is noticeably thinner. The stylist didn't acknowledge when this was happening & tried to hide it, even though it was her fault because she left the bleach in my hair for about 50 minutes while she was in the back texting. I let them know about my complaints & they refunded me my money. Now my next appointment is approaching & I called to ask if we could push it back a week. They then proceeded to tell me that I was no longer welcomed back because I was not happy with the service. No one had told me that and now I have roots grown out and no where to get my hair done because I was unaware that I was no longer allowed back. I have never heard of a place that bans people because of a service that they provided that was Edit to the owners reply: I was told by the receptionist on the phone that I was no longer welcomed back & that they had canceled my appointment themselves without my knowledge. I was explicitly TOLD that they would not see me anymore. I was not notified when it was cancelled. Also I have the emails sent where you guys asked me if I would like a refund. I did not request it on my own. I can post the screenshots if you'd like. I've been dying my hair for many years & know how to take care of it. Nicolette Chieffe is my "hair hero"! She has been able to match my original dark brown base color which was lost about 12 years ago when I started coloring my hair, and she's also helping me transition to "going natural". Nicolette added in some silver (to connect the dots!) and tones it (I'm not sure I've got the technical lingo correct) but she's made my hair look natural in this growing out process! She even gives thoughtful consideration to what different cuts and styles will work with my hair type and that's been a fun change of pace too! When I explained I just needed product front desk returned to their station and went back to reading book. Fortunately for me, I know what I need and front desk did provide prices when asked. Finding this salon was a happy accident. I actually went to another salon I randomly found online (I'm from out of town) and they didn't have an opening for me. They kindly suggested Seven Hills Studio to me. Thank goodness! I arrived and received a very warm greeting from reception. Thanks to a last minute cancellation I was able to get seen by Lauren. I recently got a bad dye job and my hair needed a lot of fixing. I am so incredibly happy with how my hair turned out. I wish I didn't live so far away so I could continue going here! Let me preface, I moved to richmond about 8 months ago and have had the worst luck with hair. The last salon I visited last (mind you it was rated 4/5 on yelp) completely butchered my hair to the point where I had to wait 5 months for it to grow out. It was one of those terrible experiences that only others who have truly had a bad haircut get my point. Walking into seven hills you can instantly see how tasteful and clean the salon is. They have every bumble & bumble hair product and they use it exclusively on all their clients. Jay is truly warm and inviting and the atmosphere is delightful. Elizabeth is professional and is extremely diligent with her attention for details. She consulted with me on my horrific cut and was honest that I would need another cut to fully fix the awful layers I had, yet at the same time she was receptive to my concerns. She also gave me her input on color and my color came out beautiful. I also very much enjoyed the way she cuts hair. She will start your cut with wet hair and finishes the cut after she has dried it. This really shows the expertise she has and her commitment to making you feel gorgeous when you leave her chair. What are you waiting for??? I'm 110% sold and can't wait to go back. read more
