    What I wanted. The ballpark.
    Sung P.

I went in for a consultation with Leanza and it went well, she looked at the reference photos of what I was aiming for and agreed she could achieve it. All was good, she planned on using the foilage technique bc my hair is pretty dark and I wanted cooler tones. I specifically mentioned balayage. The first photo is what I showed. The next day I went in to get my hair dyed at 3:45 pm. Everything was going well until the toning part. By this time, my hair has been through a lot of washing and scrubbing. The toner was put in and then Leanza dried my hair to see how it shows. Immediately it was blue. So she sat me back down at the washer and continuesly scrubbed my scalp to get the toner out. At this point my scalp is stripped of its natural oils and was bare. She put some formula to get rid of the remaining toner in my hair and my scalp immediately started to burn. I mentioned it and she kept washing to help relieve it and told me to take advil or some pain reliever when I get home. She then blowed dried my hair. By this time it was around 8:30, I didn't realize I was at the salon for that long and we were the only ones there. However, I didn't mind it taking long bc I thought my hair would look great. At the end, my hair was definitely not what I wanted (2nt picture) but I didn't notice the extent of it until my friend who knows more about hair than me, pointed it out. She mentioned my scalp was red and looked swollen (3rd photo) and my hair was definitely not a balayage but highlights. She also mentioned that the color was off from what I wanted. My scalp hurt immensely that night and the pain didn't subside until after a few days. I decided to call the salon the next day and they offered to fix it. During the weekend my scalp continued to hurt and I decided to go to another salon to find out what was wrong. They don't know exactly what was done, but they can assume that Leanza washed my hair so much, the scalp was stripped and bare so when chemicals were applied, it burned my scalp. Essentially a chemical burn. They also agreed it was more of highlights because the dye was up at the roots. The color was not even throughout because near my roots it's very light but near my ends it was ashy, almost green toned. I was nervous about the fix up and looked at reviews of other clients that went to HAIR and one client mentioned that they just made the hair worse. I decided to cancel my appointment with them and request a refund so I can fix my hair at another salon. That day I called two times and the receptionist mentioned the owner would call me back. Well, the owner never called me back. But I expected this because another review mentioned the same experience. By this time, I washed my hair and my scalp started to peel (4th photo). I decided to dispute the charge through my card. What I don't understand was why Leanza messed up my hair like this because I saw on her Instagram page, another client's balayage and it started a few inches from the roots and looked good. At this point i'm not mad, just disappointed, i'm sure Leanza didn't do anything intentionally, just how the situation was handled could be improved upon for future clients. If a client didn't get the results they were expecting, they should have an option for either a full refund or a fix up like other salons, especially if an injury occured. All salons have clients that go through bad experiences, what sets a good salon and a bad salon apart is how they take care of the situation. A lot to improve here. I hope now one else has to experience this.

    Blonde balayage from HAIR

You know this salon is THAT good when all of the previous reviewers have rated it 4 or 5 stars. I'm just now getting to write a review for HAIR after making appointments there for the past four years. First of all, Charles (the master stylist) is great, and he always made me feel welcome. Every time I came in, I was so in awe of how effortless he made cutting hair look! Though I have never booked an appointment with Charles, I was never disappointed by getting my haircuts from Kelsey (a junior hair stylist who no longer works there.) Last year, I decided to go blonde from my dark brown hair and Kelsey couldn't have colored my hair any better. The salon is very chic and clean. It's located close to VCU and the fan area. HAIR also offers nail services- one of my close friends went in to get her nails done and she was pleased with the results. VCU students get a discount with a student ID. If you refer 3 people to the salon, you get a free haircut- I got a free haircut during my last visit! Sadly, I have moved out of the Richmond area but I will most definitely return when I'm in town. I highly recommend HAIR- you won't be disappointed!

    Thank you, Ashly!!!!

What a nice experience. They took me in last minute and were persistent with making sure that my super-processed hair was taken care of. The place itself is darling. The people are great. You can tell it's a place that hires people that fit their culture and are about team work. I hate going into salons where people are snooty and cold - this is not one of those places! Thank you Ashly and Charles for all your help with my hair. It was my first time here and I already made my appointment for January ;) Need a hair place? Come here!!

Cancer Patient Refused $500 Refund - Poorly Done Microblading…read more I am a recently diagnosed cancer patient that was seeking to get my eyebrows microbladed. I went to Maria @mariialash for microblading/"nano brows". Her price for this service is $500. I wanted to get this done prior to starting chemo so I could still have natural-looking brows during treatment. Unfortunately, 100% of the pigment that Maria put on my eyebrows fell out, despite following her care instructions. I informed her of this and sent a photo of my plain brows, stating that I am starting treatment any minute and will be unable to do anything that may compromise my immune system such as getting a tattoo, for at least the next year. At this time I requested a refund. She has refused to disperse a refund stating that her disclaimers her clients sign state this could happen. A flimsy "disclaimer" does not excuse a business from providing good service and exercising good judgement. I do not recommend trusting Maria with your money nor your brows.

I've had my own brows microbladed at a different business for over five years, and my experience was nothing like this. When my friend reached out, she provided photos and explained that she could not attempt a correction because of her upcoming chemo and radiation, and asked for a refund. Maria refused, citing a disclaimer. But a disclaimer doesn't excuse poor results or lack of accountability. For such an important and time-sensitive service, this was extremely disappointing. I would not recommend trusting this business with your money.

I really appreciated how prompt they were about my appointment time. All their products were bumble & bumble and it smelled fantastic. Michael, my stylist is extremely friendly and a great conversationalist. He's very communicative and knowledgeable about hair, hair color, and extensions. He made me feel very welcome and gave me great advice and suggestions on my hair. I had a lot of breakage from years of bleaching and he did a great job blending my damaged ends into layers. He also really listened to what I wanted and made sure to communicate every step of the way. Not to mention, I received one of the best head massages for my added hair treatment! Overall a great experience and I will be considering hair extensions with Michael in the future!

She also let me know the person who did my hair was no longer with them (good choice!!) I got my hair re-done by Lauren** and she was great although it was mostly toning if I'm not mistaken. It turned out a lot better than before and the cut was not crooked thank god! There was a problem at the register as the girl said there was not a note on my account so I had to pay the full amount, but contacted Elizabeth again and she reimbursed me a couple days later. I'm not giving a full 5 stars only because the girl who took my payment made no effort in listening and told me to "come back and talk to Elizabeth" which seemed a bit dismissive. All in all though despite that, it was a better experience, and the owners care a lot about customer satisfaction! So I would still recommend it! ---- Unfortunately, have to leave a not so great review for my first and only visit here. I saw Richard, who was very nice. Everyone was nice. I wanted a simple cut, no layers, but I wanted my hair thinned out (I have a lot of hair), and I also wanted color. Nothing fancy just some peak-a-boos all over so I could eventually transition into a balayage. I showed him a picture, he looked at it and got straight to work. Everything went great, we were chatting small talking etc :) I do have some experience working at a salon in Menlo Park, and watching him I was getting just a little worried as his techniques seemed a little basic (maybe it's just hindsight though). Anyway, he finished, washed (very very hot water ouch) and blow dried my hair (it also burned quite a bit. But I am not the type to complain unfortunately so I kept my mouth shut) Anyway I was happy up until I finally saw my hair. I mean I smiled but inside I was pretty sad. I went home, my boyfriend was like what happened to your hair I said what do you mean? It's fine.(didn't think it was THAT bad, notenough for my boyfriend who never notices anything to notice) I take a closer look in the mirror, the color is uneven and my hair cut is crooked / uneven. Random long strands etc. No biggie. Right? I'll just go in and have it fixed. So I call make an appointment to fix it and go in. He apologizes and takes a few minutes to fix it. Although it's better than before it's still not what you'd expect after paying $250+. Been wearing it in a pony ever since waiting for it to grow back. :( I'm giving an extra star because everyone was very nice and the salon itself is super cute.

I love the vibe and the art at Immortal Beloved RVA. It's always been top-notch until recently. Now, when I've gone in, they have a dog at the shampoo bowl and that's happened a couple of times. I asked them to not schedule me with the dog, since I'm allergic. I thought it was one of the customers therapy dogs at first. Now, I'm starting to think maybe it was one of the owners. That wouldn't be so bad if I was able to continue with the appointment that I scheduled. I tried to reschedule it because my car was in the shop and wasn't ready yet. I called on a Monday thinking that would be fine and just reschedule. Unfortunately, they weren't open on Monday I found out. I was still getting a text saying that I had an appointment Tuesday. So, I was able to borrow my husband's car. So,I called before I drove down there since I wasn't sure whether my appointment was canceled or not to double check since no one had called me back. Then, the front desk girl said that she had canceled it and we rescheduled it with her for another day. So, I said that was fine, even though a lot of my time was wasted. I didn't even get to go pick up my car because we're spending so much time going back-and-forth with the front desk girl about appointments that day. By the time I got off the phone with her, the car dealership was closed. So now I didn't have my haircut or my car. That sucked. Not very good customers service. At least if we could have rescheduled that would be better than nothing. so we rescheduled for May. Unfortunately, a couple days later I got a call saying that my appointment was canceled and to never come back. They said I was a chronic rescheduler and they're canceling appointments with me. I only scheduled about two appointments a year. I don't even remember them ever talking to me about that before. The lady at the front desk insisted that was their policy. I couldn't find that anywhere on the website. I don't know why we couldn't go forward with the appointment after knowing that in the future but they just canceled it completely at that point and they haven't returned any of my calls or texts. Even when I said I could come in using my husband's car at the time. They said it was too late. It's just ridiculous! I planned for all situations. I feel like I did everything I could. It's frustrating because I don't think that everything was given to Jessica. I never talked to her directly. It was only to the front desk. Clearly she wasn't giving them all the information. So, it was just really frustrating. I've been a long time client and to lose that was awful. She was my friend and I didn't even get to say goodbye to her. Then the head of the company never called me back either. So, they just blacklisted me with no recourse and no phone calls or anything. I called back and nobody returned my calls. It's very unprofessional and impersonal!
