My husband and I recently went here for dinner, and overall, it was a solid experience--nothing outstanding, but decent enough for a casual meal. We'd give it about 4 stars. We started with the garlic fingers as an appetizer, which were tasty and hit the spot. For drinks, we kept it simple with water, Pepsi, and iced tea--no complaints there. Service was efficient; our food arrived in a reasonable time without any delays. My husband went for the daily special: ribs, shrimp, potatoes, and coleslaw. The ribs were the standout--tender and flavorful. The potatoes were good too, though the gravy was pretty bland and could use more seasoning. Unfortunately, the shrimp fell flat; they were a bit rubbery and lacked any real taste. I opted for the pan-fried haddock, which was well-cooked and enjoyable. The restaurant itself was clean and well-maintained, which we appreciated. For dessert, we shared the peanut butter chocolate mousse. It was good overall--rich and chocolatey--but it didn't really deliver on the peanut butter flavor, which was disappointing since that's what drew us to it. The waitress was very nice and did a great job. All in all, it's a reliable spot with some hits and misses. We'd probably return if we're in the area, but we'd skip the shrimp next time! read more

We weren't looking for much when we headed into this small town, but I have to say, food was delicous here. Everyone loved their dishes. Staff was occupied and probably couldn't have had another person hired to take care of the customers. However, she was lovely and tried her best to be quick on her feet. Food is excellent but I found the service a bit wanting. The last time we went I ordered an entree and an appetizer that both appealed to me but when they came they were basically the same dish. This as our second time at Bitar's. It just keeps getting better. We had the calamari which was really good, not so fond of the marinara sauce but other than that really great. We shared the poutine and I'm telling it was great and a large amount. My husband had the Lebanese Messa meal which he loved. The baby spinach salad was delicious. My husband enjoyed clams and fries which was great as he can be so fussy. At other places clams have been too chewy, over cooked or really greasy. I also ordered a French onion soup. It was hot and tasty with the perfect amount of onions and cheese. It was so nice to have delicious food and enjoy a night out without having to travel to the city. Costing less than $50, why go anywhere else? read more

This place is ok. I had kind of high hopes as it is the only real restaurant that is in town. I was kind of let down by the flavours. I ordered the fresh chicken ciabatta sandwich. And it had diced veggies on it in some sort of garlic mayo which chunks of chicken on it. It could have benefited from sliced veggies for sure it would have prevented me from getting mouthfuls of mayo. Also the bun was supposed to be toasted but it was just really greasy and warmed. I had a side of fries with it and they were ok, though under salted. My boyfriend had the fish and chips, which he said was far too greasy, maybe the oil wasn't hot enough. But he was unimpressed overall. My mother got the special, which was pepper salmon with a strawberry pineapple chutney on top and the baked potato. She wasn't impressed, her fish was really dry and she said the chutney was pretty bland. Dad had the pan fried haddock and he said it was under seasoned and was unimpressed with the potatoes. Bitar's is really the only romantic/classy place to take your lady around the Enfield/Elmsdale/Lantz area. Their menu consists of pasta dishes, Mediterranean appetizers and east coast seafood favorites. I enjoy the clams, which are served fresh, with tiny shoestring cut homemade fries while my wife enjoys their Chicken Tetrazzini. Bitars also offers daily specials from the chef, music or entertainment on special holiday occasions and a friendly staff. One complaint is they do not offer unlimited drink refills. Recommended for a delightful change from pub food. read more

It has been a number of years since we were at Bitar's and I recall it as being a surprising little gem we stumbled upon. The outside, somewhat deceiving looking like a pizza eatery, the inside a beautiful, cozy, well appointed Italian/Mediterranean restaurant with great atmosphere. We decided to give Bitar's a try again this weekend. They did not disappoint. The restaurant has been expanded since we've last visited. It still has the same atmosphere and our guests were very pleasantly surprised once inside. Plenty of parking. We had a reservation for six at 6:30pm on Saturday night. Glad we did as the restaurant was packed when we arrived. We were promptly seated by our waitress and once settled she came back to take our drink orders and give us a bread basket with two plates of olive oil and balsamic for dipping. We opted to skip the appetizers and order Greek and Ceasar salads with our mains. We ordered Neptune Shrimp and Scallops, Momma B's Creamy Chicken Casserole, Chicken Philly Wrap and Burgers and Frites. The Neptune Shrimp and Scallops was delicious. Large shrimp delicately cooked and nice size scallops covered in a mouth-watering creamy peppercorn sauce as advertised. Good size portion and with the addition of the Greek salad was a very satisfying meal. Momma B's Creamy Chicken Casserole (made gluten free) was a large portion and very well liked. The burgers were house made, however look somewhat deflated but am told tasted good. The frites were nicely cooked. The Philly wrap was much the same as the burger. OK but not the calibre of the pasta dishes. We did not have desert but stayed for a few drinks instead. In no way were we felt pressured to leave. Prices are very reasonable... except the pop. No refills as another reviewer mentioned. We will definitely go back and sooner rather than later. read more

A very low scale restaurant trying to act like a high scale restaurant the food is very average

I have been wanting to eat here for years...and now I kind of wish I had kept on waiting. I went here tonight to treat my man to a nice birthday dinner because it had donair pizza for him and pasta for me. The pizza only came in 9" which is kind of weird and the donair meat was no different then the packaged stuff you buy in sobeys (eww) but the pepperoni he added tasted great. I got the chicken tettrazini which sounded delicious from the description... Not so much. The sauce tasted like water and the only flavor came from a bite of chicken or a mushroom..not one bit of garlic in it as it said.. Being the pasta fanatic i am, that was realllllly dissapointing. Working at a high end olive oil store, I found it really hard to eat the rancid grocery store oil and balsamic they give you for dipping, it smelled and tasted horrible but the bread was really good!. Although the server was wonderful and as polite as could be in such a busy place (no idea why so busy but I guess it is the only higher end restaurant in the area), I would never eat here again. I would rather pay a few dollars more and eat anywhere in halifax. I feel bad for taking my man somewhere that he was unsure of in the first place and seeing both him and I disappointed on his birthday. At least I only paid $30 for the two of us, so can't complain much about the prices. read more

I have eaten here many times before and loved it but my boyfriend and I were just in there tonight for a quiet meal together and had a very poor experience. The waitress rudely responded (not asked) for ID when we tried to order a glass of wine. We both got our ID's out, both of which are legal (we're 31 & 32) and not damaged in any way. She took one look at his and said no because she did not think it looked like him. She told him his face wasn't 'that slim' and that the person might be his brother but it wasn't him. She wouldn't even look at my ID. He had his ID renewed in Feb of this year, his hair has grown out a little but that's it. We have both been there and ordered drinks before, but tonight we were treated so rudely that we left in embarrassment (due to the small size of the place, any of the guests seated at tables beside us overheard her speaking to us this way). I will not return for fear of this treatment and I will tell others of this experience. Very disappointed. read more
