Unfortunately, the process of planning out space the way we wanted involved really messing up the placement of the original key patterned floor throughout our pre-war apartment. The floors were such a mess, our plan was to completely replace them with something new, we called a few companies and had people come in to give us price quotes. the usual... We found this wonderful company through their advertisement in New York Spaces magazine, one of their guys, Joe, came in to look at our floors and he admired our messed up floor pattern (which I must say made me like him, it was one of the reasons we bought the place) and suggested restoration of our floor as an option. We hadn't even thought it was possible, but after a few plesant phone calls back and forth and having some very polite and tidy workers in our home, we were standing on floors that looked exactly like the ones we had before our renovations, but brand new looking! Beautiful! We never dreamed we would be able to fulfill our space needs and keep the historical beauty of our home intact, but with these guys help it became a reality. Great company, I think they do a lot of big construction jobs, but they didn't act like your typical construction folk and if I didn't know better I would have thought we were their only client by the great way we were treated! Freddy was in the shop that day and was so incredibly helpful hearing our ideas & recommending solutions. Then we placed an order on a relatively tight timeline - the tiles were supposed to arrive from the supplier 3 days before our installers were going to start. Freddy called me with the bad news that the supplier had been giving them the runaround, and it was looking like we would be a month delayed - the chain reaction of this would have left us totally screwed, but without even asking (although I was ready to beg) Freddy said he would make some calls to other stores and suppliers around town to see if he can figure it out. Within two hours he texted me that they found all the stock we needed (over 150 sq ft!) and had them in the shop that afternoon. Completely saved the day and bent over backwards for us when they could have just said ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They have a huge selection, fantastic prices, and amazing staff - there's another guy whose name I unfortunately didn't get, but he was just as friendly and helpful as Freddy. Would highly recommend Mosaic Supplies, especially instead of trying to order something online yourself - or if you find something you like online, bring the idea to them first and they'll sort out the details. They also recommended a couple installers (although we ended up going with "Marcos & Bruno Tile and Stone Specialists" who we also found on Yelp and were perfect). Amazing store!

We found Sawkill while looking for reclaimed barnwood for our renovated kitchen. We visited the…read moresmall showroom in Bklyn and Alan told us all about the wood and showed us samples. We ordered the reclaimed oak planks in various widths, skip-planed, which he explained would allow some smoothness and some of the rough distressing. It took a couple of months for them to source the wood and deliver it to us in LI, but it arrived as promised. Our contractor installed it and my husband and I sanded and finished it using Waterlox Trutone natural sealer and finish. You don't have to sand it, but we wanted it a little lighter after testing the finish. We decided to fill in holes with epoxy, but in hindsight didn't need to, and it was a lot of work to sand it smooth. Otherwise it was pretty easy. We LOVE LOVE LOVE our floors! The wood is gorgeous and so unique. Alan knows all about reclaimed wood and even wrote a book about it, which we bought. He kept in touch, answered all our questions and helped us with advice on finishing. Highly recommend Sawkill and Alan!

The bad - limited selection. Very limited compared to their competition. In addition, their fabricator wasn't the most professional. His people damaged my cabinets and it was impossible to get the repair done and time forced me to get another fabricator. Disappointing but not necessarily PMI's fault. MOST importantly, my new fabricator pointed out that the slab I purchased had been repaired with fillers in several spots. To the layman's eye like my own, I didn't see or notice anything. But I am thoroughly annoyed that they didn't disclose the imperfections as honorable businesspeople should when selling their wares. Sigh. It's unfortunate because I really liked the people and would have happily sent them business. In conclusion, I'm generally satisfied with my choice and it worked for my kitchen. And the people made the experience painless. Ergo, two stars (I wish yelp allowed half stars). The failure to disclose important info dropped them significantly in my review. My disappointment is that us being first time home buyers and it being our first mayor remodel they took advantage and asked for a deposit right away and we "had to make a decision" too because we can loose out on the stone, turns out it's not the case. We then shopped around at other stone distributors and they never asked for a deposit or pushed us to choose a stone. When we phoned PMI back to see if we can get our money back and my husband even went in person- they refused and hid behind the receipt we had signed - that by the way has the name of our manufacture NOT our name. They gave us another option that didn't seemed too honest- to go behind our manufactures back and use their guys for cutting and stalking the stone. In short we felt lied to and misinformed. They are a huge distributing company and these ethical mishaps are ere-levant to them. We learned our lesson, shop around and never leave a deposit! Hopes this helps.
