I don't usually write reviews and I thought about whether to write this public review for more than 6 months. I moved to Texas in 2021 and wanted to find a local tax accountant to prepare my taxes. In previous years, I did my taxes at H&R Block or on TurboTax, but as my taxes became a bit more complex, I wanted a professional who would help me through my taxes and gave me advice. Unlike other accountants I spoke with, Victor was warm, welcoming and seemed very knowledgeable. I wanted someone who was approachable and accessible for any information and available throughout the process. Unfortunately, it seems like many tax accountants operate just like chatbots or really, very much like TurboTax. In which case, why wouldn't I just stick to TurboTax or H&R Block? Victor was different and kind and helped answer some of the questions I had through the process. Doing taxes with him for the tax year 2021 was a breeze and I thought I had found the best tax accountant! Imagine my surprise when doing 2022 taxes. I wanted to start early and avoid the busy tax season and approached him in early 2023 to get started with the paperwork. I got the paperwork in pretty quickly - everything was fine at first but he and his team took really long to reply. At first, I thought to myself, well that's fine because Victor will get it done soon based on my first year of experience with him. (Yes, that's how great he was at customer service.) Then, we kept inching closer to the mid-April deadline and each time they kept making the excuse that they are busy and promise to get to it soon. Lo and behold, we are a week away and they said they have overcommitted and will get back to me soon. Now, we are on the day of and I wrote a stern email to ask for a call asap. We talk at 4pm and he informs me that we will have to file a delayed return and that I have to pay for it. Honestly, I was so frustrated because I could have gone to H&R Block and gotten it done in an hour in January or just done it myself for free. Instead, here I am, at his mercy because he's already done the taxes and we're a few hours away from the deadline. He made an apology that really wasn't an apology. He said he was sorry it was late but that he made up for it by helping me with inquiries on my 2021 taxes???? even though he doubled his prices in 2022. Honestly, it was the most disappointing about face from someone I thought was trustworthy, sincere and worth building a longterm relationship with. I decided to just suck it up and went with the delayed return. When 2022 taxes were finally done in a week or two, he said he would look at my questions for 2021 taxes and this dragged on for a few months. Remember how he said he was doing me a favor? I wished he hadn't and just said he couldn't do it. I ended up finding someone else and paying someone else to do the 2021 corrected taxes. You best believe The Financial Interior won't be doing my taxes ever again. I will be working with someone who is a true professional. read more

I picked this firm for the simple reason that I ran into a few tax return challenge beyond my experience that didn't fit neatly into the commonly available software. I had less than 2 months to meet the 10/15 extension fed tax filing deadline. I was totally blown away by the service I received and the personal attention. I don't know if Marie (and company) are in the aggressive, building-client base mode - but the customer service and attention to detail were simply off the charts! I often work on projects myself where there is a beginning and an end/completion. But what I most appreciated about this experience was the communication points during the process. Marie kept me informed about progress and obstacles through out - I never had a time that I felt I needed to know more and initiated a request. She proactively kept me updated or asked for additional data when needed. Lastly, and this part I almost hate to mention, is that my work recently has been highly demanding on my time.
