I hadn't eaten at Black Agave since the change in ownership, so I decided to try them by placing a DoorDash order. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try their food this time. The staff was friendly and did call me, as I had requested, if there were any issues with fulfilling the order, which I appreciated. During the call, I was informed that the carne asada tacos listed as "2 for $4.88" on the à la carte menu were actually priced per taco, not for two. I was also told that the two four-enchilada dinners I ordered could not be fulfilled because they were out of shredded beef. They offered chicken or pork as substitutes, but my family was hoping for beef, as I make chicken enchiladas at home regularly and we don't care for pork. The person I spoke with was courteous and apologetic and explained that beef was cooking, but it would take about 1.5 hours. Unfortunately, my DoorDash driver had already arrived. The driver was very patient and even offered to help by calling me so I could cancel the order. I initially tried to cancel through the DoorDash app, but it indicated I would need to forfeit the full amount, so I contacted DoorDash customer service instead. After explaining that the situation was unforeseen and not really anyone's fault, they were able to issue a partial refund to my card, with the remaining amount provided as DoorDash credit. I did briefly consider waiting for the beef and adjusting the order, but with the wait time and pricing, we decided to look at other options. I ended up placing an order with El Ranchero instead and had no issues. Their family enchilada deal included 20 shredded beef enchiladas, rice, beans, and chips with salsa for a similar price, which worked better for our family that evening. My only recommendation would be that if you're ordering from Black Agave through DoorDash--especially since it appears to be a smaller restaurant--it may help to call ahead to confirm availability and pricing before placing the order. read more

This place recently changed names (maybe owners?) but has a solid menu and even better food! My family stopped in around 430pm on a Sunday to discover it empty aside from one other table. Our table ordered steak fajitas and carne asada. Both were delicious. I really appreciated that when I told the server that I couldn't have dairy so I needed to omit the sour cream and guac for my fajitas, she pointed out that the beans have cheese on them, so she'd have that omitted as well. The portion sizes were perfect and service was remarkably fast, too. Only thing to point out is that they have Starry on tap, instead of Sprite or 7Up. read more

I've been quite a few times and it's always consistently good American Mexican food. The asada and shredded beef are my favorite in any dish I get. The drink list is extensive and every cocktail is always well made. Servers are attentive and nice. The inside is clean and cozy. The only negative I have is that a couple times the chips have been stale and salsa very thin. These always seem to happen at the same time. read more

Working at the PD across the street today, I decided to give them a try. Not too bad. Some what Americanized like so many Mexican Restaurants here in the northwest Ordered the cheese crisp, a chimichanga (enchilada style) and the flan. Crisp was disappointing as bottom was overcooked while the cheese was barely melted. Chimichanga was very good as was the creamy flan. Service by Maria Q was very friendly and attentive. A mixture of good things and disappointments. It has a small parking lot, probably big enough for their needs in a quiet downtown. Decor is nice, standard US Mexican restaurant work, with comfortable seating. The food was okay. I don't think it had any quality problems, but it was fairly bland as Mexican food goes. The salsa, for example, was just lacking in seasoning. Everything was cooked correctly; they just need access to spices, and to develop the will to use them. Service was fine. It ought to be, as the place was pretty quiet. Prices definitely showed post-pandemic levels, a little high for what one gets. Overall the value was average. I have lived in parts of the PNW in which the standard was much higher. In Pasco, for example, this restaurant would not succeed. read more

Black Agave is the newly named restaurant, occupying the location across from Kelso City Hall. We've tried every restaurant that's been in here. How does this one stack up? It is as nice of an interior as always. Spacious in general especially with the plentiful seating, beautiful decor, and just an overall pleasant atmosphere. Great service, from fast and friendly employees that care. They're attentive as well. I decided to try their "Sunnyside Enchiladas" and, despite the waitress not knowing what "sunnyside up/down eggs" were, the food was some of the BEST I've ever tasted. My Mom enjoyed her food, although I don't remember what it was. Yes, this place is called "Black Agave" with "Soltero's" menus that are the same as "El Ranchero" in Longview. I've deducted a point for the further confusion, along with two minor personal gripes that are only 2% of the one point deduction. Overall, you'll enjoy your time inside the good looking restaurant. Employees will be extremely helpful, and the food will be tasty. Definitely stop by! read more

Solteros was a solid Mexican restaurant in Kelso. We were staying in town for the weekend and didn't want to eat at a chain, which is what was mostly available near out hotel. However, we found Solteros in downtown Kelso, which made for a good dinner. We visited on a Saturday night and were the only ones dining at Solteros. The other patrons were getting takeout from here. At first we thought the restaurant was closed as we saw the staff vacuuming inside and there weren't many cars in the front lot. But fortunately, they were, so we were able to be seated immediately. The menu was massive. There was A LOT to choose from. I mean it, every Mexican item you can think of they had. My partner chose the carne asada plate while I had the lamb borrego dish. We were given complimentary chips and salsa, and both our plates came with fresh corn tortillas. Our entrees were tasty. I liked how tender the lamb was and the sauce was actually light, which was nice. It wasn't heavy at all. I especially liked making a taco with the lamb, cilantro, onion and some lime zest! The plates were also a large portion, which was filling after a day of hiking. We both enjoyed our meals and I suggest checking out Solteros for whatever Mexican dish you fancy if in the Kelso area. read more

We decided to give Solteros a try after eating at their sister restaurant in Longview, El Ranchero. We were pleased to find the restaurant very clean and easy to get to. The server provided us with menus, water and chips when seated. We also ordered their bean dip -- which we usually do. However, it was difficult to get her attention as she seemed stuck socializing and socializing and socializing with another group down the aisle. We had the same issue at the other restaurant. The food was good but was warm and not what you normally expect with food when it's served. We were a group of 8 and where we were seated there were mainly booths except for one table next to us. The hostess sat another group of 6 in that table and told them we would be leaving shortly so they could have our table scooted over. We didn't appreciate that because we were still eating! Anyway, we'd probably go back to El Ranchero. Prices are good and so is the food mostly at both. read more

They just opened a few days ago, and the food was amazing.. if you like Rancheros in Longview, than you will love this place. Because of Covid I am not able to dine in. However I phoned my order in and took it home. I got the #36 and boy was it a lot of food for only $14 bucks. I am writing this the next morning and I'm still full. The flavors are spot on. We had a long day, we're tired and looking for something close to our hotel. We decided to try Black Agave because it was after 930 & it was still open. We found Black Agave on Yelp. I think many of the mediocre reviews are wrong. We found a diverse menu, offering true Jalisco style items that we hadn't tried before. Our server, Abigail was excellent! She was knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Mary, the owner also stopped by and not only asked about our food and margaritas, but took the time to actually talk to us. Some people complain about the prices. You get what you pay for. Also, the Cadillac margaritas are excellent. The margarita mix they use isn't overly sweet or overpowering. read more

We ordered the flan and were told they were out so we picked the fried ice cream instead and for a scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream on a tortilla chip. So incredibly NOT what the menu depicted! And we mentioned it and the waitress said "don't ask me, I've never had it" Really sorry to say, but it's the truth. OK, barely. I had eaten here 5 years ago with friends while we stayed at the nearby RV park while traveling in our motorhomes. I remembered it was a fun evening and when we were back at the same RV park last week I thought I would visit the restaurant again. We got there at 8:30pm on a Saturday and the place was empty. I mean empty. There were two waitresses sitting at the tables looking at their phones and that was it. We were seated immediately of course and our pleasant and attentive waitress brought out chips, salsa and the beer we ordered. The chips were mediocre and the salsa watery and pretty tasteless. We ordered our dinners which came out pretty quickly. My wife ordered two enchiladas which she though were pretty OK, and I ordered a chile relleno that also came with a taco, beans and rice and some salad. I found about two penny sized pieces of pepper in the entire relleno. I was expecting a stuffed pepper, but no... The food was just OK and while we were working our way though our meals, while still being the only people in the entire restaurant, the other waitress drug out an incredibly loud vacuum cleaner and started vacuuming the carpets!!!! While we were sitting there eating our dinner! We asked for boxes, packed up most of our dinners and left. They could have vacuumed before we got there while the restaurant was completely empty. Or they could have vacuumed after we left, while the restaurant was completely empty, more than an hour before they closed. Never again. If you look on Yelp there are dozens and dozens of Mexican restaurants in Kelso and Longview. Try them instead. read more

Went here for a date night, discovered it wasn't the previous business that I had googled, and was pleasantly surprised. We had pollo asada fajitas, carne asada platter, Ranchero Marg and Perfect Marg. Everything was delicious. The meat was actually seasoned properly and tender.
