This review is only for the pupusas, we didn't try anything else. They were not fully cooked and very thin with not much filling. A fee only had a little filling in half. Trying this place for the first time. It's found under Mexican cuisine but it's more a Central American Latin influenced cuisine. You order at the counter and order off the menus posted on the wall. Once you order you take your seat. On this day, Sunday the restaurant was pretty empty. Only one other couple. Nice Spanish music and tv going in the background. We ordered empanadas, arepas and plátanos fritos. The a prepas were a little on the tough side. Managing with a knife wasn't enough. I had to break mine with my hand. The chicken filling with lettuce, tomatoes and sauce had a good flavor though the chicken was dry. The frijoles were good but lacked salt. Just a pinch would elevate the flavor. I stopped in after shopping in Hillsboro, and highly recommend this little, local restaurant. I love Central American food, and they offer some of my absolute favorites. The staff are friendly and helpful. You order at the counter, and they bring the food out to you quite quickly. I had ripe fried Platanos, the bean & cheese pupusa, and a chicken empanada, and all were delicious. They also have a good selection of beverages that can be difficult to find. I tried a tasty guanabana (sour sop) juice, with pulp, and it brought back fond memories of the first time I tried the fruit in Costa Rica. Hint: The restaurant itself is tucked in, at the end of a little strip mall, and can be easy to miss. read more

There's some cuckoo construction going on Cornelius Pass road but don't let that stop you from visiting the Antojitos House. Plenty of seats inside while you wait for traffic to subside. They have a variety of bites from arepas, pupusas to Honduran eats like baleadas (homemade flour tortilla with beans) and tajadas (green banana/plantain topped with yummy stuff). The proprietor is super friendly and explained the menu to us. I think my fave is the baleadas - very filling and good, especially with avocado and chorizo. I stumbled upon this spot about 30 minutes before they closed, and let me tell you, it was the best decision ever! I was really craving pupusas. Even though it was just 20 minutes before closing, the girl who took our order didn't rush us and was so friendly throughout. The pupusas were absolutely delicious. To top it off, she generously threw in a few empanadas for us to try, which were incredible as well. It's rare to find a place that cares so much about their food and customers, especially this late at night. After trying so many other Mexican/Salvadoran restaurants in Hillsboro that seem to have lost their touch, I'm so glad I found this little gem. I will 100% be coming back for more. A couple small oops, but a yummy first visit! We didn't see the restaurant to begin with, drove right past it further into the shopping complex. Of course, after I finally noticed it I also noticed the folding sign right out on Cornelius that I missed. The place isn't grand by any means, but they're pumping out some pretty grand treats. We placed our order at the counter, planning to just eat outside in the car. Mistake...the food here really isn't the easiest to eat in the car. After reading reviews about their amazing empanadas we chose an array: the ground beef, chicken, and potato. We also got an order of taco dorados to share. It was a bit of a wait, but by all means it's worth it when food is made fresh. The empanadas came out SCALDING hot, so much so we had to set them aside and dive into the tacos, which were very crunchy....pretty small, but tasty with a nice cream sauce. I noticed once we turned to the empanadas that the raved about avocado dipping sauce was nowhere to be found. Thank goodness we were eating outside and could run back in for it...I would've been pretty bummed to have missed out...the sauce is indeed yummy. All of the empanadas were great, very good flavors in each. One note though, they were as greasy as they were good. They served them up on paper towels for drainage, and it was a good thing. Definitely let them drain a bit while they cool. One of our 2 chicken empanadas was only half full once we broke into them...but again, taste won out. Scrumptiously good food. Yes they were greasy. Yes they forgot the precious dipping sauce. Yes one half-full empanada. YES, I'll be back....and probably soon. read more

This place has been on my radar for a bit since we drive by all the time. Today was the day we decided to stop in. I'm kicking myself for not stopping so many times before. The food came out fairly quickly and was definitely very tasty. The crema that accompanied the empanada was very tasty. I would order a bucket of that if I could! The empanadas and the avocado sauce are reason enough To come back again. They are sever crispy and hot. This is a must and probably what they do best. Solid first visit. The empanadas were 5 star worthy. Really good! Got a cheese and a chicken. Both hot and tasty. The green sauce with it was a perfect dip for it. I believe an avocado sauce. The chicken arepa I had was really good. I ate it all rather quickly. Not quite as good as what I had at QKenon in Orlando, but authentic and really good. I'd definitely get it again. The beef sopes were a little disappointing. Just didn't have a lot of flavor. Maybe chicken or pork would be better. The main reason for the 3 star is the online ordering process. Yelp uses grubhub. I got confirmation that they received it and a time to pick up. Got there and they didn't have it. They found it immediately, and got our food out quickly- about 10 minutes. Would have been really irritating if it took longer. I'd call in orders to go for now. The girl at the register was friendly and helpful. I'll be back. The Antojitos House provides fair value for authentic Latin American food. The dishes aren't flashy or showy, mostly being different forms of fried masa mixed with different combinations of meat, cheese, and beans. The presentation is lackluster, offering no illusions of ostentation, and they're the better for it. The empanadas are, as you may well have already heard, the stand-out. Served hot, and crispy, and prepared with fresh ingredients, the empanadas do their job well, being a satisfying savory indulgence. Be sure to get the avocado sauce to dip in, it's the perfect balance of salty, sour, and rich to complement the dishes. Papusas come close. These delightful bean-stuffed masa pancakes have a wonderful balance of crispy exteriors with soft, almost gummy body surrounding the filling. The flavor doesn't stand out much, but the texture alone makes these incredibly satisfying to munch on. Again, highly recommended with the avocado sauce, or the pickled accoutrements. I also tried the tacos dorados. Well-stuffed, extremely crispy, and served with a very complementary sauce, plus a bit of salad. The four rolled tacos for $8 is a fair price, but doesn't leave you jumping for joy at the value. All in all, The Antojitos House doesn't stand out in any big way. The prices are fair, the dishes are exactly what you'd expect, no more, no less. Everything is served hot and fresh, but there's nothing particularly exceptional here. The pupusa was just outstanding and the plantains the perfect amount of sweetness and perfectly cooked. I felt like I stepped in my abuelas house and was warmly greeted and asked if I had been inside before. I was helped understand the menu and told what the most popular dishes are.
