We tried three kinds -- the beef, the onion and cheese, and the humita (sweet corn. yellow onions, with a traditional Argentinian white sauce and spices). Small. Flaky pastry. Reasonably filled. Our order came with one very small plastic cup of plain hot sauce and a few french fries. Those in the know seem to favor the empanadas. Unfortunately, I opted for the round, pastry, with ham and cheese thingy, and barely finished it. I usually enjoy this mixture, but there was way too much ham and it tasted low quality. Maybe it's the way it's supposed to be, I don't know. Their fries are one of my least favorite kind (and I love fries.) They're not thin, steak cut, crinkle, or shoestring, but rather something that has a tempura batter like coating. They just taste oily. Again, maybe that's the norm. The lady was absent for a very long time during the weekday lunch rush. Maybe place a sign that indicates you won't be back for ~15 minutes. A number of potential customers we're waiting and then opted to leave. She was very nice so no big. As an Argentinian myself I was super happy to find this green during my visit to Portland. We stopped by when they were having a Peruvian celebration in the plaza. Service was great, I tried their milanesa and was delicious! Also eat the empanadas (beef, chicken, and ham and cheese) and they were great and made to order. Choripan was spot on and tasted like back home. I ended the visit with a Dulce de Leche cañoncito (like a cannoli filled with caramel) and it was to die for!! I truly wish Alecocina the best! I stopped by AleCocina food cart last Sunday 2/10/19 in the early afternoon (during the snow and cold weather warning) for a quick bite on my way to work. I ordered a couple of the meat empanadas and a couple of Alfajores cookies. They were very tasty, fresh, well prepared, filling and very reasonable priced. Ale, the cook and owner is extremely nice, sweet, polite, professional and has a talent for the Argentinian cuisine. I will definitely come back to try other items in the menu. Ive been looking for great empanas and Argentinian food In Portland and finally found it. This small little cart has great home cooked food. I had 2 empanadas that where juicy in the inside and crispy in the outside. I had a choripan (chorizo sandwich) portion was super generous and it was delicious! My wife loves the beef empanada but I thought it was to heavy, not like I remembered them, regardless my wife loved those empanadas. This is a wonderful jewel of a place. The food is interesting and wonderful. You will not be disappointed. I have had two of the veggie options and loved both. I had the Veggie Pasculina one time and the Veggie Sandwich on a different visit. In each case it came with a nice salad. I decided to try a Canoncito for dessert. It was incredible. Even the atmosphere of the food cart was lovely because it was creatively decorated. The spot has a nice, clean, decorated seating area where you could really sit and enjoy your meal if you wanted. I don't know if this food cart has moved or they've added another one. I went to the Alecocina located at the Portland Mercado. The only reason they are getting two stars is because the lady was friendly. i ordered one cañoneitos de dulce de leche. It took them 30 minutes. I know they were cook and serving other people's orders, of people who ordered after me, because I am them people order their food and no more than 10-15 minutes later they got it.
