Pretty fancy place and on the expensive side. But you get what you pay for here too. Their grilled cuts are awesome and they provide 5 different sauces to go with the cuts. The horse radish was my favorite. They also have a TON of sides, but it comes at a price, the spinach dip and chips were the all star here. Now time for their dessert. The Creme Brûlée is a MUST. I never take photos but this one you just had to see. Perfect consistency and it comes with a side of sorbet. Advice to the owners: it would be nice if the cuts come with a small side or something. Having to pay $50+ without a side is a heavy price to pay for JUST a cut. And to pay an additional $10 for 1 (or $27 for 3) is still a lot to pay for a meal. read more

We came to this restaurant specifically to try that wine and were told they no longer offer any wine using Coravin. I just don't really understand this restaurant. The restaurant advertises itself on serving "modern australian" food and charges a lot for what it actually gives/represents. I came to the restaurant clueless about what Modern Australian really entails and left with an even more confused perception. Surely Modern australian food isn't a slab of steak with some weird concoction that sounds good on paper but tastes like soup dashed with some off tasting herb....or a piece of grilled fish. We ordered grilled prawns, scallops, pork main, poached trout, gnocchi and the dome chocolate dessert (we have previously tried the steak and weren't fans). The scallop dish was basically scallop sashimi with some chili powder spread on top (it tasted like the chili powder you put in ramen). I don't really understand why it was served this way as the saving grace of the dish was the freshness of the scallops. The grilled prawns was pretty standard. The produce and quality of the seafood was fresh but the sauce....sigh it was basically corn chowder. The pork main was Chinese food gone wrong...with a stale prawn chip. The poached trout was 50 something dollars and it was a piece of fish decorated with a few pieces of thinly sliced vegetables and something they called Calamari risotto. I would call it a few millimeters of calamari in green couscous. The gnocchi was okay. The dome looked pretty cool but that was about it. It looked like it was ice cream covered in chocolate with some ugly hints of ginger. and to top it all off...one of our waiters was this blond faded women who was soo gone that I wondered if she was high on some drugs. She poured water so carelessly that it splashed on my face and was soo unresponsive. Not a fan but hey...nice pictures? read more

Went for a business dinner and little to complain about. The burrata and fig starter was great, a lot of fantastic cheese and lovely figs. We had also ordered 12 oysters, which the waiter forgot (and did not acknowledge he forgot them, which was frustrating). We finally got them and they were nothing special. Steak was great, shared a tomahawk ribeye, cooked perfectly with great flavor. Enjoyed garlic roasted eggplant and the Mac cheese was also fantastic. A nice, consistent meal. read more

Amazing. I really can't fault this place. Sure it's expensive but we know that going in. I've been here twice now, both for work, and both times I have been whisked away to flavour country. In my personal opinion it's on par (if not rivals) Rockpool. Our recent trip saw us seated in the private dining room with 29 of us. At first I didn't like how there were 5 separate tables for all of us but after awhile I realised we could actually talk to more people around us than we could have if we were all seated at one long table. We had a group party menu and could choose between steak, snapper and gnocchi. As I don't eat beef or fish I got the gnocchi and it was so damn good. We also had sides of seasoned chips and green beans. There was also some salad with grapefruit that I wasn't a fan of but hey you can't win them all right? The complimentary brioche melts in your mouth, heavenly. I do have to say though, the tomato salad with mozzarella entree, while good, is not the best I have had. On the other hand, my coworker ordered the beef tartare with beetroot and said it was the best she had ever eaten... ever. The dessert?? My lord I don't even know what it was but it was beautiful. Something straight out of a Masterchef elimination round. Honeycomb and cinnamon love on a plate. If you're heading out for a special occasion and want some damn good food wine, try out Black. I've been all about the Australian wagyu ever since we booked our trip down under so when I came here for dinner, I had to order the Wagyu Tasting for two! This is a great way to try three different Australian wagyu steaks. For the price (basically 25% off because of the exchange rate) and the quality/quantity of the meat you get, it's absolutely worth it! Despite being in a mall, this place is fine dining. Very swanky vibe with mixologists mixing up the coolest cocktails and very knowledgeable sommelier helping you pick the perfect wine to go with your steak. As expected service was top notch and you get a good view of the city because of the floor to ceiling windows. Black by ezard is definitely a good place to have a nice dinner if you're feeling fancy in Sydney. There's also a "hot club" close by. We noticed the long line of scantily clad women waiting in line to get in when we were leaving the restaurant. Our bed was more enticing so we passed on waiting in that line. Having stumbled in here for a pre-show snack a few weeks ago and been very impressed, when the boys were looking for a suitable spot for an end of year dinner this seemed a good choice. There is a lovely bar and a shared table for walk-ins that is superb. Well, we were not disappointed. The ambiance is fantastic, dark, moody, noisy but private, and the service superb. The open kitchen is a joy to behold, one of my favourite things, and it truly did not disappoint. The wine list is broad, from 40 bucks up, with something for everyone. The oyster entree took us all by surprise - possibly the best oysters I have tasted anywhere in the world - although kiwi Bluff oysters are hard to beat, to be sure. WE all agreed that they were truly stunning, and a harbinger of the meal to come. The rib eye on the bone was a complete steak, unlike the nasty surprise I got at the Rockpool B & G where my rib eye and bone had been sliced into two thin steaks, only one of which was on my plate! And it was wonderfully cooked, superb even. The sides were magnificent - a mushroom ragout served in a delightful souffle pot with a pastry lid, divine! The fries, salty and crunchy in a small metal deep fryer basket, beautiful presentation. And the deserts! OMG indeed. A knockout. So, Black has rocketed for my money to the pinnacle of the high end steak houses, and we are indeed the hard table when it comes to this kind of thing. Love your work! read more

Elegant venue with good service, great if in the mood for quality meat and not on a tight budget. Started off with the delicate kingfish ceviche we then ordered a grass fed angus ribeye, a scotch and sides of potato mash, fries and mushroom and herbs pie. The steaks were cooked to perfection and had enough fat which gave the meat a rich flavour. This restaurant would have to be in my top couple of restaurants in Sydney. This beautiful fine dinning restaurant have got it right, standout service, amazing food and an extensive wine menu. From the A LA Carte menu my favourites starters would have to be Oysters a dozen of-course (to share), Spanner Crab (wow), sashimi and beef tartare. Mains: Gnocchi, Reibeye (meduim rear), Duck Breast or Hapuka poached. sides: Chips with parmesan oil and rosemary salt, Mushroom ragout and fine herbs, Asparagus lemon dressing and almond or Cauliflower cheese sauce and bacon crumbs. AMAZING. The bread to start is delicious and addictive, try and limited yourself as you don't want to fill up before your and main meal. Lunch special 2 Courses $65 or 3 Courses $75 - great for a client lunch. I prefer the full A LA Carte menu - Perfect for that date to impress plus the city lights look amazing over the water. read more

I was looking for a good and interesting restaurant to visit on my two day business trip to Sydney. Black by Ezard looked like a decent candidate and in fact it has fulfilled my expectations. Nice views, good food and service. Probably I expected a bit more from meals considering that it is an expensive place. Normally I would leave four stars for a place like this, however, because they charge 2% fee on all credit card payments (which is crazy considering that it is a premium restaurant), I can give it only three stars. read more

Unfortunately this restaurant did not live up to its expectations for me. Famous for having the best steaks in Sydney, I felt that I have had better steaks at other restaurants as it lacked flavour and juicyness. It did not melt in the mouth as I expected it too. On the positive side, the service was exceptional. Before we ordered they asked if we had any food allergies.. I have not experienced this at a restaurant before. The sides were average (we ordered the fries, Mac and cheese and the broccolini). The steak is served on its own so it is recommended to get sides to accompany the steak. The star for me was the velvet infused martini! Absolutely delishious and was singing with freshness and flavour! I probably won't go again, but worth the experience as a one off. read more

Back to my favorite restuarant. It was so good to eat here after all this time in lockdown, i had the best feed. Awesome food and service.

After having received a $50 voucher to Black by Ezard, my bf and I were ecstatic to try out the prestigious restaurant for ourselves! In order to maximise our value we aimed to spend around $50 for lunch between the two of us which was achieved by ordering two sides (chips, mac and cheese), and about 8 oysters! yumyum. The serving size of the chips and mac 'nd cheese were for sure smaller than expected, and less tasty than we had hoped. The oysters were also quite small, but we assumed such beforehand. The red wine vinegar dip for the oysters, however, was deliciously tangy and pretty much the highlight and redeemer of our whole experience there! The atmosphere and service was professional and classy - we expected nothing less! Overall, I feel like the food was too pricey for what it was, and if we do come back here, it'd only be to feel fancy again :) read more

Where the elite dine. I wonder what it is about a restaurant that makes it feel like it is the place to be. Whatever it is, that je ne s'ais quoi. It certainly persists here at Black by Ezard. This is a very top end steak and grill. there is a fantastic bar situated in the restaurant - it is rustic and bears testimony to grandeur. It is formal dress in the restaurant if you want to be taken seriously and reservations are prefered during busy periods but by 9pm walk in's are available. Be stunned by the view of the bay and glimpse of the harbor bridge, a really great opportunity to wear your best dress, shoes and splash on a bit of your make up. read more

Came here for a romantic special occasion - had been planning the visit for a while and was excited. Was very disappointed. Was so busy, even though we booked and arrived on time we still had to wait in the bar for about 30 mins. I knew it was expensive and had prepared to spend, but all in all was not worth the price. The beer I was after (Brooklyn larger!) was all out and the cocktails were expensive (but I must admit they were amazing). The food was average and whole process a bit confusing. you order some things from the waiter and others from an ipad which they leave on your table. Although some things we ordered from the ipad never came so we ended up ordering them from the waiter anyway. The reason for the 2 stars is the food. you order (and pay for) everything separately - i.e. starters, meat, sides. The meat platter we ordered was not cooked to the way we had asked - requested medium but was still bleeding! Puddles of blood on the plate even for the pork and lamb. Was quite horrific for an ex-vegetarian. Between main and desert I visited the bathroom and overheard a group of ladies commenting on the poor service they had received as well - granted they were in a large group of about 10 pax, however mentioned they had waited 40 mins to order and an hour later the food had still not arrived. We got the bill after mains and went to Messinas (also in the Star) for ice cream for desert - probably saved ourselves $20 right there. read more

Yesterday 09th DEC 2015 was my second time at this Restaurant BLACK ( at the Star) . Even though I did not have a booking, I managed to get a table thanks to the friendly hostess . Guests after me had to sit and eat at the bar. The restaurant was packed for a Wednesday evening. As usual one of the BEST Steaks in Sydney and when I ordered medium rare it is MEDIUM RARE! The waiter that looked after our table is friendly and helpful and assisted in getting our food to us quickly coz we had to vacate the table in 60 mins as there was a booking for this table by the window.. But he did offer that we could have our dessert at the bar , so don't rush and enjoy the dinner. The only 'dislike' about this restaurant is that if patrons pay $25+ for a entrée and at least $70+ for a main with sides, least they could provide is TABLE CLOTH. I always believe 'fine dinning' tables should have table cloth perhaps I am from the 'old school'. I highly recommend BLACK for Diners excellent food , great ambiance , service and plenty of parking . read more

Black had great service. I know some friends have not experienced great service here but I couldn't fault them - they knew when to come around and when to leave us to it. The best service is the one you don't notice because it is seamless, and these guys came close to it. The meals were great, though I would skip the cinnamon dessert and go for the chocolate one next time because it is a bit more of an experience. For a restaurant attached to the Star casino, I've been constantly surprised by how good some of these are. Recommended - having said all that, I would not go back - not for its lack of quality but there are too many other options to eat from. This is a once-only place, not a regular - not unless I had deeper pockets! read more

Great ambience and really good food! We were seated right away even though we were 10mins early for our booking which I thought wasn't bad for a busy Saturday night. Our waiter recommended some good wines and starters which were devine but after that we struggled to get someone to take our mains order. Speaking if mains they were pretty basic but did taste great. The dessert was really good but the let down was in the service and that's enough to stop a perfect score for anyone. Would I go back or recommend this - yes of course but you have to flag a waiter down at any opportunity even if they're not your allocated one. Price was reasonable at $500 for 4 people which included a bottle of wine, starters, mains, sides and dessert. read more
