They are patient, kind, encouraging, challenging, and talented karate practitioners. This club is a great way to challenge yourself physically and mentally, and to learn the history and culture of a rich and interesting martial art. Karate helps me stay fit and meet new friends. It is a wonderful, friendly co-ed club and is perfect for all ages. The fees are exceedingly reasonable which makes the club accessible to everyone. We test for belts and have the options to participate in workshops and camps as well. The Senseis did a smooth and professional job of transitioning to zoom and socially distanced trainings during Covid, which kept the club up and running even during this odd year. I highly recommend the club to anyone!

Anyone from young children to senior adults can train at this traditional karate club. Dave & Ellen, the instructors, split the class between children and adults to better accommodate for different skill and maturity levels. Dave & Ellen make each class different, are attentive to all students and push them all to become better in so many ways. We have both come to know some of our best friends in this club and are looking forward to training with them for years to come.

One day my husband came home and told me that the judo class he signed up for my son has kids that…read moreare "the type I want my kids be friends with", and that got me to go there and see for myself. Every kid came from all backgrounds and diversity, from different ages will come in with their uniform, bow once they go on the mat, and take turns practicing with their partners. They're the most respectful 5-6 year olds, teenagers, and young adults I've seen. We've only been there since September, but our son has grown and matured. He demonstrates their philosophy: courage, integrity, and perseverance. That's what I want for my son, I want him to grow up and become a problem solving adult that can persevere even when he faces challenges and bigger enemies. He shows respect to his teachers and his coaches are the type of adults that he looks up to. Judo is a better type of martial art especially for kids since they're minimal injury comparing to something like taekowdo. You or your opponent wouldn't hurt each other's head, and that's important especially for students who need their IQ on par. I highly recommend this place. P.S. In response to another review I read here, I think every one takes dark humor and tough love differently. Coach Laffon looks intimidating sometimes, but if you get to know him, he's the type that will back you up when you need him. It's hard to judge someone from a one time bad interaction, or the interpretation of it. The worst people on earth is never the type that can say no to your face. Sometimes the straight forwardness is much more appreciated than the fake smiles. That's also what I want my son to experience. You will meet tough love in coaches, teachers, bosses, and those of your senior. You need to learn humility and respect and how to interact with them. They're not bullies, if they don't like you they won't waste their time on you.

I have trained at Grandmaster Dong's Harbour Pointe with my daughter for approximately 6 years now…read more Throughout those years it has been an honor and privilege to be instructed by and train with so many wonderful people. Grandmaster Dong continues to update the curriculum regularly, continuing to fine tune his system and continues to teach regularly, sharing his knowledge and experience with his students. Master Dickens and his instructors at Harbour Pointe are wonderful and patient with all of their students whether they are young children just starting out or older Black Belts advancing to higher levels of training. I started attending to have something to do with my daughter and so that she could learn a little about how to defend herself, i now stay for myself as much as her as i have found a place at Dong's where i feel that I belong. I often tell parents that this isn't like any other activity that kids take part in like baseball, soccer etc. Sure you can coach their soccer team but martial arts is something that you can share entirely and do together. It has been a fantastic bonding experience for both myself and my daughter and we continue to move forward together on our journey and encourage others to find the same experience. ~Mike S. Dong's Karate Harbour Pointe has been a welcoming place since the very beginning. They teach amazingly and have each other's backs. It's all like one big family. ~Mikaela S.

I had the pleasure of meeting the awesome staff at Kaizen MMA/Enshin Karate a few weeks ago when I…read morepicked up my nieces from their Day Camp Program. My sister had searched high and low for a reputable place to put the kiddies in and happened upon the Karate Day Camp. With all the foolishness in the world, this Auntie is happy to know that her nieces are protected and cared for by "Handsome" MMA trained professionals that could snap an assailants wind pipe with one quick karate chop. (Yep that's how I feel .. smile) The girls get the required exercise time and calorie burn that most American children refuse to get with that unhealthy connection to tablets and video games that prevent them from riding bikes and visiting playgrounds. I watched through a glass window as children completed sessions of bear crawls, mountain climbers, side rolls and various other exercises that would make the average child cry (small laugh). They listened to their Sensei and showed him respect during his instructions... another attribute lacking in our youth today. My nieces seemed happy as they engaged with other staff and older school aged teenagers hired during the summer for additional help. This establishment reinforces discipline and the instructors convey any and all concerns to the twin about the girls. A perfect co-parenting relationship. The nieces informed me that they also attend fun-filled field trips and also have many trips to the pool. The Dojo Mommy helps the little ones change so no parent need fret about the thought of their little girls interacting with male staff in the bathrooms. Also of note, the facility is super clean, offers an activity area upstairs and rents their space for Birthday parties. My sister invited me to her Boot Camp session and after one hour of circuit training I was sweating up a storm. Instructor Mike had these legs, arms and thighs on fire. I was glad to know that while the girls received their workouts, classes here, were created to keep parents and aunties Just as Fit. We know that all great things must come to an end and I hate that my sister will have to leave this amazing place when she moves with her military husband next year. Next year my nieces will be more fit, more confident and prepared for self defense. You can tell the instructors love what they do, love the children and know that the children love them. On my last day of vacation we picked up the girls and I watched some MMA students completing warm ups with their instructor and created some new fitness goals for myself. Kaizen MMA has what you're looking for and more, highly recommended! Da Islandgal29412

I used to love this location (Fairfax) of Kaize . However, recent changes have made me decide to…read morepull my kids out and go to a different location. My kids are in the youngest age group (under 7). They used to be taught by adult Sempais, and I could see them gaining skills, self control, respect, etc. But this location recently changed to allowing older kids to serve as Sempais and run the class. These kids don't have any experience with teaching children - they're still children themselves. The focus of classes has shifted from learning skills to just "conditioning" - running, sit-ups, push-ups, etc. And these child instructors just don't have the self-control to serve as instructors. At the end of most classes, the Sensei/Sempai ends with a fun game to conclude on a fun note. But recently, the child Sempai leading a dodgeball-type game got carried away and way too competitive and was throwing the ball full force into little kids' faces. I saw a 4 yr old get slammed in the face (by the Sempai) so hard she fell down. And the Sempai appeared to like it and continued to throw full full force at other 4, 5, and 6 year olds. That was the breaking point for me. The other Kaizen locations are good, and we'll stick to those ones.
